You guys should pardon me.I've been a little busy...Semester's here again;book work, assignments, bla bla bla...But I think I'd be able to bring up one or two updates...but not now plzzz...Its gonna come later. |
Chapter Twenty ought to have started in my last update but I don't hink it will do much harm to have it here... CHAPTER TWENTY I slapped hands with Ellie and snickered. "How's...uh..." "Damian? Good." "How did-" "Ellie I know you two are mates. I'm supposed to be helping Damian get you back from Zane." Our conversation was hushed while Linnie chattered loudly to Zane about the many, MANY problems with us being mates. I rolled my eyes. "Out," Zane pointed at the door and narrowed his eyes. Ellie immediately walked out without looking at him. Linnie opened her mouth but he growled deeply at her so she stomped off after Ellie. Zane shoved the door and it slammed closed loudly. I smirked at him and leant casually against the cabinet behind me, bending one leg to place my foot against it. "Well, maybe you should listen to your cousin Zane. There are a lot of issues with us," I said snidely. Zane seemed to glide over to me and slammed his hands down on the cabinet on either side of me. I jumped slightly but kept my face relatively calm. "Yeah but I cannot find the will power to stay away from you because you're so addictive Alexis. You're rarely nice to me but it's worth being around all the meanness to get to the little bits of nice," he said darkly. I stared at him in surprise. Well don't I feel like a bi- "Don't," Zane ordered. "Don't what?" I replied with an arched eyebrow. "I can tell you were about to insult yourself in your head," he elaborated. "Psht, why would I insult myself? I'm awesome," I brushed him off as I ducked under his muscular arm and sauntered over to his desk. The dull ache of heat had taken permanent residence in my stomach but at least it was better than the agonising pain of last night and earlier today. "I guess you are," Zane conceded, "but then I'm awesome for having an awesome mate." I wrinkled my nose and juggled his paperweight and stapler. The door suddenly slammed open so hard I thought it'd come off it's hinges. I spun in surprise, seems like a regular occurrence for me to be surprised nowadays, and dropped the paperweight and stapler. Luckily both missed my now bare feet. "I'm here for my sister," Damian said angrily. Ah, I forgot I was supposed to stick with him and avoid Zane. "She's in heat, would you really be so selfish?" Zane snarled viciously. "Selfish? I understand that you're her mate so you two are an item now. Fate intended it and I can't get in the way," Damian said furiously. "Wait we're a thing?" I gestured between Zane and myself but was ignored. "It's you who won't accept that Ella is MY mate and you have no right to stand in the way!" Damian's voice rose and I pursed my lips. "I can see some serious stuff is about to go down. So I'll be outside," I said before leaving the room and shutting the for behind me. I leant on the door, not wanting to go too far away and risk the wrath of heat again. |
Ok....I'm back.My day was great.Hope your's was too?Let's see what we can do...I'm itching to get this story done with. |
That'll be all for now.See y'all later.I'll.update this night ceteris paribus. |
I was impressed. I'd been in here before but I hadn't really been paying that much attention. Zane's office was amazing, better than Father/Damian's office. Zane was working silently, seemingly completely absorbed in whatever was on the scattered sheets on his mahogany desk. I was entertaining myself by going through the many cupboards and drawers in here then inspecting the contents. There was a knock on the door and I looked up, my hands freezing where they were rummaging through a drawer. Zane got up gracefully and strode confidently to the door. Damn, even his walk was sexy. He opened the door and quirked an eyebrow at whoever was out there. I tilted my body backwards slightly and my dark eyebrows furrowed when I saw a female. Jealousy sprung up inside me but I forced it down. Don't go acting all crazy she-kitty on people Alex, I warned myself. "Yes Linnie?" Zane inquired. "I heard a special lady is here," Linnie said smugly. Zane scowled and I stared at him in amusement. "Yes, what of it?" Zane muttered, his eyes flicking over to where I was twirling a bejewelled pen round my slender fingers. "The pack want to meet their future Luna Zane, they're getting antsy," Linnie explained calmly. I spluttered on...well air. Future Luna?! I would make a terrible Luna! I can't lead people...or make rational plans...come on, I came here for revenge and now I'm best friends with my oldest brother and standing in the rival Alpha's office in HEAT?! "She's in here?!" Linnie exclaimed. She barged past Zane roughly with a bemused Ellie on her heels. Ah, I see everyone is friends. Ellie shot Zane a glare as she passed him and Zane glowered back. Maybe not then. "Hi, I'm Linda but everyone calls me Linnie," Linnie introduced herself with a bright smile, "I'm Zane's cousin." "Alexis Matthews," I said coyly. "Matthews?!" Linnie spun to look at Zane in open-mouthed shock. |
"Live here?" I quirked a dark eyebrow at him and he smirked. "Of course, it's only logical," Zane said calmly. "No-" "As soon as you get a few steps away from me you're crippled by pain and arousal," Zane said smugly. "Bull-crap," I swore. I pushed myself off the counter and strode out the kitchen door angrily. I made it halfway down the hallway. Pain hit me hard in the gut and I groaned as I doubled over. Immediately it dulled and I looked up to see Zane beside me with an expressionless face. Even though his features held no emotion, his eyes shone with pain and worry. "Don't do that again," he said gruffly, putting his hand on my back. I just grunted in response and stood up straight, breathing in and out deeply. "I have some paperwork to do. Coming?" Zane said emotionlessly. I glanced up, what was wrong with him? He never acted this way around me. Zane began walking and I quickly moved so I was walking beside him. I'm not dealing with that pain again. I slid my hand into his, my cheeks burning out of embarrassment at the action. Not a flicker of emotion passed his face but his hand closed tightly around mine. |
"Thank you Lea," I murmured. "It's cool," Lea said with a knowing grin. I rolled my eyes and eased myself out of the car. "Zane," I growled out. Zane froze, his hands poised to throw the basketball into the net and the muscles in his back rippled. With a quick move, Zane tossed the basketball and got it perfectly into the net. Slowly, he turned to face me and arched a perfect blond eyebrow. "Time to mate? Mate," he said smoothly. "Over my dead body," I said snappily. Zane smirked and stalked over to me, his movements graceful and similar to a predator. "Well there'll come a day when you'll be begging on your knees," Zane taunted me, "until then...I'll take care of your heat in another me shall I? I'm sure you'll taste divine." I bristled, my face twisting into a scowl. "I meant your lips, sweet cheeks," Zane said with a laugh. He leant down and captured my lips with his own, a burning sensation spread through me but it was different to the burn of heat. This burn was pleasant and delicious. It took over the other burn leaving the pain and discomfort behind. I bit his lip to make him open his mouth then I set about exploring with my tongue. His strong mint and spicy taste took over my senses and seemed to set my body alight. I pulled back. "Get me a drink, monkey," I ordered but my voice had a slightly teasing edge to it. Zane glowered at me but wrapped a strong arm around my waist and lifted me up against his chest. He walked into the house with me and down the hallways. I noticed a curly haired female bite her lip lustfully as she checked Zane out when we walked past. I bared my teeth at her and she flinched into the wall. I honestly don't know why I did that. Zane sat me down on the marble counter top in the kitchen and set to getting me a glass of what looked to be apple juice. "Here," he handed me the glass and I drank it gratefully. "Thank you," I said. "I saw that," he stated. I frowned, pausing with the glass halfway to my mouth. "Que?" I asked. "You baring your teeth at that girl," he said with an arrogant smirk stretching at his lips. I wrinkled my nose and drank the rest of the apple juice. "I don't recall doing anything of the sort," I said simply. Zane winked and leant in to give me a chaste kiss on the lips. "I'm going to enjoy this heat. Having you living with me for the week or so that it lasts and being able to kiss you without you complaining or pulling away. Mm, I'm going to very much enjoy this," Zane said smugly. |
CHAPTER NINETEEN I stretched out in my bed and moaned. I was so...hot. My toes curled and I fought the urge to go find Zane. Grabbing my stomach, I whimpered quietly at the burn. There was a knock at the door and Lea peeked inside my bedroom. "Go find Zane, Alexis," Lea urged softly. "Hell naw," I said in a southern accent. Lea chuckled and stepped into the room, gently shutting the door behind her. "What if anyone but Damian and I enter? How you going to explain heat to them without giving away what you are?" Lea said sensibly. "I'm not mating him!" I argued. "You don't have to. Heat is permanently removed by mating. Heat is temporarily removed by acts that bring about a...you know...in one of the couple-" "So...oral? On either of us? That temporarily removes it?" I said in disbelief. Lea nodded with an amused smile plastered on her pretty face. "Kissing removes it for the length of the kissing and five minutes afterwards if the kiss lasts longer than a minute," Lea added. "I could probably get behind kissing...at a PUSH," I decided reluctantly. The heat was unbearable so I could momentarily put aside my reluctance of being with Zane. "Being in his arms makes it into a dull ache, just a little discomfort in the abdomen." I nodded, that one was definitely in my interest. "Being near him dulls it to average discomfort. Being apart from him makes it virtually unbearable," Lea finished. "Does he feel this stage?" I inquired curiously. "He doesn't feel it to your extent, but he'll be in a constant state of arousal. Your scent will become really addictive and he'll get extremely possessive of you as other males who aren't related will get aroused by your heat scent. He'll see red if a male even looks at you, natural reaction. Your brother punched my history teacher for telling me I smelled nice," Lea explained sounding utterly bemused. My eyes widened and I couldn't help the laugh that escaped my dry lips. That was pretty funny. I'd love to see Zane so angry...and at the same time it would take away the insufferable heat. "Just think about it," Lea said with a small smile. That said, she left the room and I muttered a few curse words as I rolled off my bed. A light layer of sweat coated my body and I peeled off the baggy top to replace it with a neon blue vest top. With a sigh, I managed to wrestle the leggings off to replace them with grey track suit bottoms. I sat down with a drawn out hiss and slid some trainers onto my feet. "Lo que es la vida," I muttered darkly. [What is life] Taking a deep breath, I shuffled out the room and slowly headed down the stairs. My body protested to the movement, pain and aching springing up all over. It was like being on my period but much, MUCH worse. Swallowing, trying to take away the ache of my dry throat, I moved slowly out the front door. "You won't get anywhere like that, let me drive you," Lea offered. I nodded submissively and followed Lea to her bright pink bug. She opened the door for me and I slipped inside with a grateful smile thrown towards her. Lea shut the door and I watched her walk round the car with a happy smile. After mating with Darren she seemed to be on cloud nine constantly. She climbed into the driver seat gracefully and started up the engine. The vibrations of the car slightly soothed the pain and I slumped against the car seat. The ride was silent, beside the low sound of the music. The car pulled up to Zane's house and I saw he was shirtless, playing basketball with a few of his pack members. How cliche. |
I came back from a meeting after class very late and so wasn't able to do much.Lemme give you guys something to hold on to before I rush to class... Would dat be ok? |
"Yes?" I inquired, tilting my head to the side. He evidently wished to speak with me. "It's not over Alexis," Zane warned and I frowned at him, "Ella-Marie isn't going anywhere near your brother." "Then I'm not going anywhere near you," I replied evenly. Zane's eyebrows furrowed. "Why are you sticking up for him?" Zane demanded. "He's my brother! Why are you so against him? So he's the Alpha of the other pack! He'll love Ellie. Can't you see you're hurting her by separating them? My brother won't stop until he gets her...and you won't get me," I said angrily. Zane growled at me but I used my thumb and finger to grip his cheeks and shake his head. "Don't you growl at me Mister," I said with narrowed eyes. Zane's eyes twinkled and he grinned at me. Slowly he pulled my hand off his face and shook his head in amusement. In a quick movement, before I could pull back, he leant in and kissed me. Holding my face still, Zane placed chaste kisses around my face for a few seconds before gently biting my nose. "You'll be mine," he promised. Zane disappeared off the porch and into the woods then, leaving me stood there stunned. ---/ I felt a burn creeping into my stomach and I dropped the paintbrush, clutching my abdomen in pain. I hissed out a breath through my teeth and bent double. "Oh no, oh nooo, ah," I murmured. Clenching my jaw, I groaned and my eyebrows furrowed. "Why is this happening?" I fell to my knees and sucked in a deep breath. "Welcome to heat," Lea spoke up. I glanced at her over my shoulder to find her leaning on my doorframe with a smug expression. Heat. Dear God, no. |
Alexis!" he said loudly. "You'll fit in well," I decided before walking towards the kitchen. "Nice to see I have your girlfriend's approval," Gage muttered. I froze and spun round. "Girlfriend?" I pointed at Zane warningly and narrowed my eyes. "Yes, you ARE my mate Alexis," Zane confirmed with a dirty smirk. "You never even asked me," I put my hands on my hips and gave him my best sassy look. "Would you have said yes?" My look faltered. "Well no...but I never said yes anyway therefore I'm not your girlfriend," I retorted. Zane shook his head at me. I was doing well at containing the mind-blowing arousal I had for him due to the mating bond thing. If I didn't have so much control I might have jumped him by now. Seriously, the way his muscles flexed as he crossed his arms and his sinfully sexy lips curled into a dirty smirk. I abruptly turned and walked away before I did something I'd regret. "Hey," I greeted the female leant on the kitchen counter. "Hey stranger," Lea replied with an easy going grin. "So..." I inhaled and smirked. Lea's cheeks flushed and she cleared her throat. I snickered and opened the fridge, scanning it for something to eat. "Completed the mating last night," Lea mumbled. "That was you? I thought a cat was being mauled by a bear," I said indifferently. Lea looked highly embarrassed when I glanced at her over my shoulder and I chuckled. "Kidding, I didn't hear a thing. Didn't even realise you were here doing the nasty," I soothed her. Lea sighed in relief and I snorted in bemusement. "So...? How did-" "No! No, no, no, no! We're not discussing it!" Lea cried out. "I was just going to ask how he got you into bed. I don't want to know details!" I said in disbelief as I opened the orange juice carton. I pulled a disturbed face and Lea blushed again. "Well we were watching this romantic film and...Darren had lit some candles. We were just kissing and then...you know..." Lea explained. I nodded and took a swig of the orange juice. Darren walked in at that moment wearing a purple shirt and black basketball shorts. A smirk was plastered to his face. "Well someone looks like the cat who got the cream," I said in a fake southern drawl. "More like the wolf who got laid," Kieran tossed into the conversation as he walked in after Darren. It seemed like the males in this house liked basketball shorts as Kieran was wearing a white pair with his red shirt. That's three so far out of the three inhabitants of the house I've seen. I laughed at Kieran's comment and Lea flushed a dark red. Darren just grinned wolfishly and dragged her in by her hips to plant a kiss on her lips. Kieran and I fake gagged. I put the orange juice back in the fridge and shut it with my hip. Bored of seeing the love birds make out, I left the kitchen and headed outside to the porch at the front of the house. I hadn't been out there long when Zane and Gage left the house. Zane wordlessly nodded at Gage and Gage walked off into the forest. |
CHAPTER EIGHTEEN I chewed my gum and eyed the track warily. "You want me to run round that?" I asked in disbelief, "five times?" "You need to build yourself up. You're a werecat, you need to train yourself to be strong and fast," Damian informed me, "rogues are out there and with your brother being an Alpha of a powerful pack and your mate Alpha of another powerful pack you'll be targeted more than most. You need to be able to protect yourself." I threw my head back and groaned. ---- I groaned and clutched my stomach tiredly. "You are the most unfit werecat I have ever met!" Damian exclaimed. "How many werecats have you met?" I wheezed. "Twenty seven! And five were between eleven and sixteen!" Damian replied. I just moaned and tried to catch my breath. "Damian!" I whined. He snorted and held out his hand to help me up. Once I was up, Damian threw me over his shoulder and walked back towards the house. I was too tired to even protest. "Where have you two been?" Darren asked. "I've been training Alexis," Damian replied simply, sitting me on a stool in front of the marble island. "Training?" Douglas paused with his spoon halfway to his mouth and quirked an eyebrow. "There's a lot of bad guys out there...and I want our sister to be able to protect herself. Nothing wrong with learning self defence and getting fit," Damian explained casually. Damian set down a glass of apple juice in front of me and I gratefully drank it, muttering a tired thank you. Once I'd finished, I dragged my weary body upstairs to shower. ---/ I dressed casually in a black maxi dress that came down to my mid-shin and I put a white belt round the middle then slid black sandals onto my feet. Dragging my hair into a tight ponytail, I glanced around my messy room and wrinkled my nose. I need to clean up. Like seriously clean up. Shaking my head, I exited my room and carefully shut my door behind me. I channelled a quick bolt of genie magic into it and smiled in satisfaction when my door wouldn't budge afterwards. That'll keep those nosy wolves out my room. "ALEXIS!" Douglas screamed. "DOUGLAS!" I screamed back. I whirled to find him stood beside the bathroom door in baggy basketball shorts and a white shirt. "YOU GOOD?" "GOOD, GOOD?" "GOOD." "LATER!" "LATER!" He walked into the bathroom and I briefly pondered what just happened before giving up. 'Let it go Alexis,' I thought. Heading downstairs I was surprised to see Zane and one of his crew stood there looking bemused. "Zane," I said with a jerk of my head. "Alexis," he replied with a smirk. "Sup," I nodded at Zane's friend. He gave me a small nod, looking amused by my actions. "Alexis, my Beta Gage. Gage, Alexis," Zane introduced. "Gage!" I said loudly. |
gennysq: Awesome!!!Thanks!!! |
crislyn: I'm definitely watching a movie..one of those my favorite action series. Kudos dear!thanks dear. |
"Put me down asshole," Ella-Marie shrieked. "Hmm...and let you run again? How about no!" I retorted coldly. Well maybe this got out of hand but she's stubborn with a fiery temper and so am I...this won't end without tears, whose tears though I can't be certain of. -------------(@)-------------- WELL THAT WAS EXPLOSIVE WASN'T IT!?!? |
Damian tugged me to a stop and stood in front of me with a curious expression, one eyebrow quirked. I blinked and like that the purple slid back into my eyes making him raise both eyebrows. "I'm not human," I admitted. Damian stared at me in shock then like the shock dropped away like it was a mask and he smirked. "Come on Lex, I'm not stupid...I knew from the beginning. Even though you tried to do some crazy genie voodoo on me. It's the rest of our brothers who are ignorant morons. I didn't get to be Alpha without being highly trained," he informed me. My eyes bulged and he laughed. "You're not pissed?" I checked. He threw me an easy going grin, flashing his pearl white teeth. "I'm not a bad guy Lex," he said humorously before turning serious, "I knew you wouldn't be friendly with us from the beginning, you didn't know us and you thought we were all bad guys. Of course you'd keep it to yourself." "Should I tell the rest of the guys?" I asked. Damian smirked and then winked at me. "No...I've been waiting for you to crack and tell me and was hoping you was going to do it when it was just us two. This way we can have a little fun...maybe scare the guys a little," he said mischievously. I laughed in disbelief...I liked this side of Damian...nice to see where I got my attitude from. He began to walk away from me and I stood there in surprise at how that went down. "Hey...and don't think I've forgotten about when you made the lights explode over me and scared the crap out of me!" I threw my head back and laughed. ZANE POV Ella-Marie wouldn't even meet my eyes, it stung a little. "Come on, you can't blame me for getting worked up over it," I said, my tone slightly angry. The clenching of her jaw was the only sign she heard me. "It was a shock okay?" I confessed softly. Taking a seat on the edge of my desk, I stared at my hands and sighed. "It's not every day your little cousin...who's more of a sister...turns to you and says she doesn't want anything to do with the pack. That she wants to go to art school...that she's not even a werewolf," I rubbed my eyes tiredly and stood up to begin pacing again. My brain was working over time and I felt edgy and tired. "You belong here...how could you run away?" I said. "I don't belong in the pack when I can't even shift!" she replied loudly, sitting up to glare at me. "Ells you belong with us! Who cares that you can't shift! It doesn't matter!" I shouted back. "It matters to me Zane! I'm a freak," she slumped back in her chair in defeat and I glowered at her. "So you ran away?!" She huffed and got up then stormed out my office. I gave chase. Swinging the door open roughly, she stomped across the porch but, being an Alpha werewolf, I was quicker than her. My hand closed around her slim arm and I yanked her back into me. "Not so fast Ella-Marie...we're not done here," I growled. "Yes we are," she snapped. "We're far from done," I muttered before throwing her over my broad shoulder and striding back up to the house. |
Damian's lips curved up into a smirk and I suddenly noticed my brother was actually attractive...and he damn well knew it. His eyes sparkled and he pulled her tiny body into him. "Pleasure to meet you," he flashed his pearl white teeth at her and Ellie swallowed looking mesmerised. Zane let out a growl and grabbed Ellie then yanked her quickly behind him. "Back off my cousin Matthews," Zane warned. Damian glowered at him and I sensed an impending fight so I cleared my throat. Three pairs of eyes fell on me and suddenly Damian's expression turned smug and he dragged me into his side. "Stay away from my sister Thomas," Damian retorted calmly. Zane looked torn, torn between wanting to keep his cousin away from the rival Alpha and evidently wanting me. A loud exhale escaped his lips and his strong jaw clenched tightly. "May want to think it over Thomas...don't want to make the wrong decision," Damian taunted. Damian turned to face me, his eyes pleading with me to listen to him for once. "Let's go home Alexis," he said, his voice determined for the sake of Zane. I could easily say no...but if I said no then Zane would keep Ellie away from Damian as my brother would have no hold over Zane. As much as we hadn't gotten along at the start, I didn't want him to be tormented like that. Damian deserved his mate and if I could help him get her then I would. Even if it meant standing against my own. I nodded, seeing a relieved smile spread across Damian's face before he turned it smug and wrapped a strong, muscular arm around my slender shoulders. "See you later Thomas," Damian said with a barely concealed smirk. His eyes fell on Ellie and I saw them cloud over in desire for a moment before he shot her a wink and a dirty smirk. I had to fight the snort that wanted to escape when I saw her cheeks darken, Damian just smirked arrogantly. "See you later Alex," Ellie said softly. "See you later Ellie," I replied. Damian walked me out the room then guided me down the rickety stairs and out of the house. I didn't look back at Ellie's house as Damian and I crossed the road, I guess I didn't want to see the broody blond male that would surely be stood looking out the window with a scowl plastered across his handsome face. Relief hit me when I entered the cover of the woods, I could feel Zane's cold eyes burning into my back and it made me feel guilty for walking out on him. My brother and I walked through the forest in silence, both of us lost in our own thoughts. Damian was the first to break it. "Thanks for taking my side Alexis." He sounded genuinely grateful and I smiled as I ducked under a low branch. "It seemed like you and Ellie had something. We may not always get on Damian but you are my brother and I will look out for you," I said quietly. Glancing at him, I found he was smiling affectionately down at me, like an older brother would look at his younger sister...it made me feel loved. Not another word was spoken but he slung his arm round my shoulders again and pulled me gently into his side. The little brotherly action choked me up. The guilt over my deception was nonexistent at the start but slowly it felt like more and more was being added by my brothers actions, making my secret grow heavy over me under the weight of their adoration and care. "Damian I lied to you," I said awkwardly, not able to stop it bubbling up and spilling out. |
CHAPTER SEVENTEEN I spun to face Zane and saw him staring at her in astonishment then anger flashed across his face, his jaw clenching and his hands balling into his fists. He was fighting with his wolf. "You know him Ellie?" I asked, pointing at Zane. Ellie didn't seem to hear me as she continued staring wide eyed, frightened, at Zane. Zane stepped towards her slowly and looking a lot like a predator stalking his prey. "Zane," I said softly. Much like Ellie, Zane ignored me and moved over to her. He cupped her pale face in his large hands and stared into her baby blue eyes. She gulped and tugged on her baggy jumper, a sign of nerves. Ellie always wore either baggy knit jumpers and worn out shorts or jogging bottoms and baggy t- shirts when she was at home or painting. Zane tentatively brushed a strand of curly blonde hair out her eyes and smiled adoringly at her making my heart clench in jealousy. "Zane," Ellie whispered. "Ella-Marie," he whispered back. My jaw went slack and my eyes bulged. Ellie was Zane's runaway cousin?! "Woah, hold the hell up," I said holding up my hands. Yet again I was ignored. This is getting annoying. Looking for support, I turned to see Damian however I found him staring affectionately at Ellie...or should I say Ella- Marie. I cocked my head to the side and stared at the scene in front of me in growing amusement. Well this is getting interesting. "Why did you leave Ell?" Zane asked softly, "I missed you so much." Bad boy has a heart, who saw that coming? Ellie stared him down and her eyes suddenly turned hard. Oh no...bad sign...maybe this happy ending will have to wait. "I didn't belong there did I?" Ellie growled. Zane clenched his jaw and looked away to calm down, obviously reliving bad memories. "Come home and we'll discuss this-" "Come home? This is home right here. Discuss it? More like you'll yell at me and manipulate me until you get what you want," Ellie yanked his hand off her cheek and stepped away from him angrily. Zane went to speak but Ellie suddenly turned to face me. "How do you know Zane?" she inquired. "She's my mate," Zane answered for me. Damian tensed and a low growl built up his throat. I went to speak to him but remembered last minute that I 'didn't know' about any supernatural stuff. "We're not friends Zane," I said coyly. I gave Zane a warning look that Ellie picked up then contorted my face into a befuddled one quickly for Damian's benefit. I glanced at Damian and found him trying to contain his fury at Zane, his eyes flickering between his normal colour and a slightly terrifying black. "So...Damian...have you ever met Ellie?" I said brightly before blinking, "I mean Ella- Marie." Somehow I knew she'd calm him down, if I wasn't mistaken they were mates. Sure enough his blue eyes fell on her and softened. "I'm Damian Matthews," he said holding out his large, tanned hand for her. Ellie smiled shyly, making me blink...since when is Ellie shy? Biting her lip, she stepped forward to slip her small hand into his and he seemed to cradle her hand tenderly. "Ella-Marie Brenton, or Ellie as people now know me," Ellie greeted him softly. |

“Disturbing,” I evaluated. “What I was going for,” Ellie said with a crooked grin, “anyway what’s up?” “Mates,” I whinged. Ellie chuckled and seemed to be debating which brush to use next. “Go on, tell me your problems and I’ll tell ya mine,” she joked. "It's just annoying, it's like mate with your mate or nature will step in and force you to," I complained. "You know all it does is drag out the emotions you try to hide," Ellie murmured. "Huh?" "You hide the anger at him and those flirting with him but mating brings it out and makes you experience it. You ignore the attraction but again it makes you admit it. If you wasn't attracted to him, there would be no effect on you but you are attracted to him so it just enhances it," Ellie said with a smirk. "Great," I muttered darkly. Ellie started laughing and went back to painting. I gazed around the white room to find breath-taking paintings everywhere, they were absolutely stunning, Ellie was really gifted. There was a loud knock on the door and Ellie huffed so I got up with an amused smile to go answer it. I jogged down the stairs and flung the door open to come face to face with Zane and Damian. “What are-“ “Whose house is this?” Damian demanded. “Is it a guy’s?” Zane snarled. Both pushed past me and stormed up the stairs so I ran after them in surprise after slamming the door. I burst into the room to find Ellie wasn’t in here but the guys were looking around seemingly crazed. “Whose house is this?” Zane asked angrily. “Mine,” Ellie announced as she stepped inside. We all whirled to face her and I saw her go pale. “Zane,” she gasped. Oohh, what the hell? What do you want next? Alexis vs her Father... Attraction towards Zane? (Do you want cocky Zane or sweet Zane?) Damian to find out the truth? TO LEARN MORE ABOUT MYSTERIOUS ELLIE? |
“Does me being half naked distract you?” he tormented. I bared my teeth at him and he just grinned wickedly. “Why are my brothers bothering you?” I demanded. “They’re playing games with my pack-“ “Games? Like snakes and ladders?” Zane glowered at me, “mind games.” I made my mouth into an ‘o’ then shrugged carelessly. “What of it?” I inquired. “Tell them to respect the boundary lines or we’ll attack,” Zane hissed before storming off. “Woah, chill the hell out,” I murmured before slamming the door. When I spun around I found my Father stood there and I jumped. “Dude, not cool,” I said sulkily. “Why don’t you like me Alexis?” Father inquired. I curled my upper lip in distaste and glared at him. “We both know why,” I snapped. “Your Mother?” he checked. “Yeah,” I affirmed. “For leaving her?” he questioned. “No...for what you did to her...but you’ll find out about that soon enough now won’t you?” I said darkly. Father frowned and I smirked before grabbing a jacket then stalking out the house leaving the front door wide open. I jogged through the forest for a while, trying to calm down. He infuriated me. I can honestly say I loathe my Father. Sadistic...horrible...disgusting.... “Get away from my territory,” Zane ordered. I stepped round a few trees and found Zane and Damian arguing. “I have every right to be as close to the boundary line as I like as long as I don’t step over it,” Damian taunted him. “Step over it, make my day,” Zane dared him. “And have me kick your ass?” “As if-“ “Immature children,” I admonished. They both looked up at me and looked embarrassed. “Bloody hell,” I grumbled before turning and jogging off. Again I jogged for a while, no real direction in mind. I looked up as I heard cars driving past and found myself at the edge of the forest by a road. Thinking back to my conversation with Ellie earlier today I checked the street name then grinned to myself. Walking across the road, I found a small building and slipped down the side to a small green door. I raised my hand then knocked loudly and I was about to do so again when it was flung open to reveal a dishevelled, paint splattered Ellie. “Alex,” she greeted me cheerfully before dragging me into a hug. “Hey Ellie,” I said with a smile. “When I said visit me whenever you want...I didn’t think you’d visit so soon. I’d have cleaned the place up if I knew you were coming,” Ellie said, mirroring my wide smile. “You never clean,” I retorted. Ellie laughed and stepped to the side to allow me through. I wandered up some rickety stairs and into a small studio where a huge canvas was sat in the middle covered in dark looming trees. A small girl, with haunting eyes, in an olden day white dress stood in the middle clutching a teddy bear. |
CHAPTER SIXTEEN ALEXIA POV I stretched out on my settee and yawned. My phone buzzed and I held it up to my ear. “Hey kid,” Ellie sung into the phone. “Ellie,” I said with a grin. Ellie lived next door to us for two years with her Aunt before leaving a month before my Mother died. My Mum and Ellie were fast friends, even though Ellie is two years older than me, because Ellie was also an artist and she was a werewolf. Now that I thought about, I swear she moved somewhere around here. “How are you coping?” she asked softly. I’d told her about my Mother and she’d shown up for the funeral but had to return for her art show. “I’m...doing well,” I said quietly. “Did you move in with your Father?” she inquired gently. I ran my tongue along my teeth and cleared my throat. “Yes,” I replied. We were both silent for a while. “I’m guessing that’s not easy,” she finally spoke up again. “It’s not too bad actually, I’m filled with an intense hatred for my Father but...I guess my brothers’ aren’t all that bad,” I confessed reluctantly. Ellie chuckled and I heard her moving about. “So where are you based?” she questioned. I gave her my address and heard her laugh. “What?” I demanded. “I’m living like two streets away,” she said with a giggle. “What the...?” I rolled off the couch onto my feet and looked at myself in the mirror. I was wearing grey sweatpants that hung low on my hips and a tight purple crop top. Tying my hair into a high ponytail I clicked and flashed out my lamp. Striding downstairs, I inconspicuously sniffed and found no new scents. Everyone was out. There was a knock and I tensed. This is like a horror movie scene, girl alone in a big house when there’s a knock on the door so she opens it and BAM...serial killer. I shook the strange thoughts out my head and cautiously unlocked the door then pulled it open to find...a murderer...well Zane...but I’d have preferred the murderer. “What do you want?” I asked in frustration. “You should be nicer to your mate,” Zane muttered. I scoffed and opened the door wider to get a good look at him. He was only wearing black basketball shorts and trainers...holy cheese. I gulped and felt myself heating up, control yourself Alex, control is the key here. Zane had his eyes closed and was massaging his temples. “Your brothers are irritating me,” he informed me. I swallowed silently and tried to keep my eyes off his bare...toned...sweaty...muscular chest...I swallowed harshly again. I could feel sweat building up on my body and I kind of wanted to jump him. “Why?” I croaked out. Zane frowned and cracked open his eyes to stare at me in concern. Suddenly his lips twitched into a smirk and he leant on the doorframe. |
Looking up, I watched her from across the detention room and nearly groaned aloud. Masses of black curls fell around her tiny, slender body and the colour made her pale skin stand out. Her long legs were stretched out beneath the table and I couldn't help but imagine what they would be like wrapped around my waist. "I'm off to get some paper," she muttered to Lea. I couldn't help but harden as I imagined her husky, feminine voice screaming my name in pleasure. Well...attraction definitely hits hard and unmercifully. I watched her pert butt sway as she walked to get paper and when she turned my eyes fell to look at her breasts. She caught my eyes and scowled before hurrying back to her seat. Smirking, I chewed my gum and watched her sit back down. I got a hot mate. |
“For now,” the one I think is called Ben spoke up. The rest of the group frowned at him and he smirked. “Well, they won’t be the enemy when you mate with their little sister...they’ll be your brothers in law,” Ben said smugly. Zane’s horrified face literally made my day. We're never mating though. I had a free period and so I decided to make a start on the seven hundred word essay I had to write on why Great Britain entered into World War One. The library had a few of the stoner group, as I liked to call them, sat at a table so I decided to go somewhere else. I wandered outside and round the corner onto the field where I thought I could peacefully work in the stands. Slipping my earphones in, I turned up the music and chuckled when I realised ‘sexy back’ was playing. I froze on the edge of the grass however when I saw that a bunch of guys were playing football and I recognised my brothers and their friends. The guys playing stopped, seemingly for a break, and dispersed into groups to mess about with random footballs and drink from sports bottles. My nostrils flared and I followed the heady scent of mint, coffee and cologne to find Zane with his back to me. He was bouncing a football up and down on his foot and I watched raptly as he suddenly booted it to another guy. My eyes were glued to him and my lips parted slightly as I took in the dishevelled blond hair on his head. As if in slow motion, he pulled his shirt over his head and revealed a tanned, strong back that was covered in a light sweat. Hot. He spun to toss his shirt on the bench and I sucked in a breath. Zane's muscular, toned chest was on view and my eyes dropped to his chiselled six pack covered in sweat. My tongue darted out to wet my dry lips and my heart raced. Wow attraction certainly hits you hard. My eyes met Zane's and I saw desire swirling in the grey as he looked me over. Wait...the mating stages hit us both? That's why he was so angry when Nathaniel stopped me from falling. He must have realised that attraction was hitting me hard because he smirked showing off pearl white teeth and winked at me. I turned to walk into the school and fanned my burning face. “Zane fancies you,” Nathaniel said. I jumped and looked up to find him a bit further up the corridor leaning on lockers. “No he doesn’t,” I said. “He does,” Nathaniel argued. “Why?” I challenged. That made him pause...after all I’m human...so his deduction of Zane being my mate won’t work. “He just does,” Nathaniel eventually replied with a careless shrug before walking off. I watched him go in bemusement then turned my music back up and headed for the library. It was better to face the stoners than my mate...especially seeing as I’m now in stage two of the mating phases...attraction. It won’t end well for me if I’m out there, he’s topless and my brothers are around. ZANE POV Walking into detention, I smirked slightly when I noticed my sexy little mate was in here and I strode over to the back where Oliver was sat. I dumped my bag and dropped down in the free seat beside him then slumped. “I need a beer,” Oliver commented dryly, as he rubbed his right hand down his face tiredly. “Same here,” I replied. I was all for a nice cold beer to relax me. “Just have to make it through detention,” I said with a wry grin. “It’s alright for you...I’m just sat here...you’ve got a pretty little mate to look at,” Oliver chuckled and I grinned. |
CHAPTER FIFTEEN I typed quickly and when the message was done I scrolled through my contacts until I found my old friend's number. I sent the message then tucked my phone back into my pocket and leant back in my seat. Thankfully Zane hadn't been in school today so I haven't had the 'pleasure' of testing out the next stage of mating...attraction. The bell rung and I stood then slung my bag over my shoulder. I waited until the students had dispersed before casually striding out the door and wandering down the hallway to my locker. I spun the dial and flung it open then shoved my bag inside. Lunch time. “Lunch time doll,” Lea sung as she appeared beside me. I chuckled; we’d gotten a lot closer recently. Now I had nothing against my brothers I was all for being their friend and making friend with Darren’s mate. It was nice having a family again. I walked beside her to the cafeteria and got myself a salad and mayonnaise sandwich with orange juice as I wasn’t that hungry. Lea and I sat down with my brothers and their friends and I didn’t miss the way Nathaniel looked at me with a knowing smug look. It was an ‘I know something you don’t’ look and I wanted to stand up and go “I know he’s my mate, I’m a werecat!” “Hey baby,” Darren murmured as he nuzzled his face in her neck. I gagged dramatically and then started to eat my sandwich. When I glanced up Darren and Lea were making out heavily and I wrinkled my nose in disgust. “Get a room,” Douglas grunted. Lea pulled away with a grin and began to eat her pasta while Darren just smirked. “You’re just jealous because I have a hot...” he faltered for a moment before continuing, “girlfriend.” He glanced at me awkwardly and I saw Lea smirk to herself. “Yeah I am, if she was single I’d definitely tap that pretty little ass,” Douglas tormented him. Darren lunged for him and they both fell off their seats to land in a heap on the floor. Lea rolled her eyes and the rest of the table chuckled. “So I’m guessing that that,” I gestured to my fighting brothers, “is a regular occurrence?” “Yup,” Lea said, popping the P. I snorted in amusement and went to take another bite of my sandwich when the cafeteria doors slammed open. I watched in surprise as Zane and his crew walked in with bored looks. My eyes widened as they roved over his sexily messed up blond hair and handsome chiselled face. I had a hot mate. Wow...attraction...looks like we’re off. Zane’s eyes met mine and his lips tipped up into a smirk as his eyes darkened. I bit into my sandwich and looked away at Lea who was grinning smugly at the fact that I’d heated up. “It’s getting hot in here, so take off all your clothes,” she hummed quietly. Before I could comment, Darren popped up beside her and grinned wickedly. “I will if you will,” he teased. Lea flushed bright red and I laughed. “I am, getting so hot, I’m gonna take my clothes off,” Darren sung seductively in her ear...deepening her blush. I grinned and glanced up to find Zane watching them in evident amusement. “You can’t hate their randomness,” the one I think is called Oliver, Zane’s buddy, commented. No one else at my table seemed to have heard...but then again they weren’t listening in to Zane’s conversation like I was. “It is pretty amusing,” Zane agreed, “but they’re still the enemy.” |
“Who’s Ella-Marie?” I demanded. I whirled to face him and immediately noticed the way his jaw clenched his eyes became stormy. The silver shone through and he growled quietly. “Who told you about Ella-Marie?” Zane asked angrily. “Damian,” I replied calmly. “Why can’t he mind his own business,” Zane hissed to himself. “I am his business technically, I am his sister,” I mumbled. Zane just glowered at me and I glared back. “So I heard she left because of you...that’s why Nathaniel hates you,” I said with a vindictive tone. Zane shook his head slowly and screwed his eyes shut. “Let me tell you the full story,” Zane begged. I folded my arms and eyed him curiously. “Go on then,” I ordered. Zane stepped towards me and gripped my arm tightly then made to pull me into a classroom. Suddenly he went flying into the lockers and rebounded off them with a crack. My eyes widened in surprise and I spun to see Damian and Kieran. They glared hatefully at Zane who glared back at them and I watched as Zane’s crew fell into step around him. Damian pulled me into his side and Zane leant on the lockers again with a blank expression. “Stay away from my sister,” Damian said in a low dangerous voice. He steered me down the corridor and something hit me. I came to get revenge...yet somehow...I’ve found a place in life. Do I honestly want revenge anymore? I sat on the lush carpet in my lamp and stared at the pictures of me and my Mum. My hands closed around one in a silver frame and I picked it up to get a good look. Mum was grinning with paint all over her face and her slender arms were wrapped around my waist as she leant backwards to lift me off the floor. She’d just finished one of her amazing paintings and was celebrating. I was fifteen and I’d just arrived back from a football tournament. I flashed out my lamp with the picture and collapsed on my bed. I felt the tears coming as my eyes searched my bedroom for the exact picture Mum had painted and finally they fell on the happy meadow scene. It was sunny with a Mummy deer and a baby deer in the middle then lush grass and flowers all around it. The door opened and I sat up abruptly to see Damian in the doorway with his mouth open to speak. When he saw me his eyes softened and he gently closed the door then sat down beside me. He took me into his arms and brushed my hair out my face. Douglas and Darren burst in after about five minutes and like Damian, they quickly took in the scene then closed the door. They sat down at the foot of the bed and stared at me sorrowfully. “Tell us about Mum,” Douglas pleaded. I turned the picture frame over in my hand and placed it on the bed so they could see. I saw smiles stretch along all their faces as they took in the scene the picture played and then they smiled at me. “She’d just finished that painting,” I pointed at it and smiled wistfully, “she was so overjoyed at having finished it because she’d been struggling with it for four months.” Darren moved closer to look at it and he grinned to himself. “She was a great artist,” he murmured. “Yeah, she sold quite a few to big business people...made a lot of money off of it,” I explained. Damian tightened his arms around me and kissed my forehead soothingly. I slumped against him and realised something...it wasn’t my brothers fault...it was my Fathers. I could only blame my Father for what’s happened. |
I climbed the stands to sit a bit to the right of him but one stand up. “What do you want Damian?” I inquired. “I see you’ve been getting closer to Zane,” he said sounding thoughtful. “Oh really? You must be seeing things,” I replied calmly. “No I’m not Alexis; you need to stay away from Zane.” I snorted and mirrored his position as I fixed the back of his head with a bemused look. “Why do I need to do that?” I questioned. “Because he’s a bad person Alexis,” Damian said quietly in a calm, controlled tone. “Give me an example,” I demanded. Damian sighed and shook his head then looked down at his hands. “Once upon a time he had a cousin called Ella-Marie,” Damian informed me, “personally I never saw her but about two years ago there was a huge bust up in the family and she left. Why did she leave? Because of Zane. Why do you think Nathaniel lives with us? He couldn’t, still partially can’t, stand to be around Zane. I don’t know for certain what went down that day but it must have been bad for Nathaniel to drop all his...family duties....and join us...we’re like the enemy to them.” Damian looked at me over his shoulder and smiled sadly. “I’m honestly not a bad guy Alexis, I know we got off to a bad start because I tried to control you but it’s just because I care for you. I don’t want you to get yourself into trouble or get yourself hurt. You’re my sister and I know I failed at being a brother all these years but I’m really trying to make it up to you. You need to let me,” he whispered as he looked back at his hands. I swallowed then cleared my throat and bit down on my inner lips to hold them together. After a moment of silence I stood up and climbed down the stands. I walked off along the grass feeling more troubled than I’d admit at Damian’s words and I pushed through the double doors into the school. Lea was laughing with Darren who was spinning her round while Douglas and Samuel just looked amused. Rolling my eyes I turned to go down the next corridor and saw Nathaniel walking towards me but his eyes were narrowed in an angry glare at Zane who was leant on the lockers with his crew. Zane growled a deep, low, warning growl and Nathaniel just bared his teeth then stormed past me. His shoulder connected with mine sending me staggering but he quickly grabbed my shirt by the collar to hold me up. “I advise you release her brother,” Zane snapped angrily. Nathaniel glanced at him in irritation then his head suddenly snapped to me and he studied me before he let out a breathy, amused snort. His lips twisted into a wry smile and he placed me firmly on my feet. “See you at home Alexis,” Nathaniel said. He ruffled my hair and then walked off down the corridor. I blinked at his retreating figure and then watched him round the corner. “Well okay then...” I trailed off. I turned to find Zane watching me with dark eyes from where he was leant on his locker and I calmly walked down the corridor past him. I thought about the anger, this was the third day...so soon I’d be onto attraction...jeez. “You’re going to hit attraction soon Alexis,” Zane said seductively. “Whatever,” I muttered darkly. “You know you could stop all of this by just...I don’t know...mating with me,” Zane said thoughtfully. |
CHAPTER FOURTEEN “Breathe in,” Lea ordered, “breathe out.” “It’s not working,” I ground out irritably. I glared furiously at the detention teacher who was leaning on Zane’s desk to talk to him about the work he had to finish that his math class had done after he’d been kicked out his lesson...the detention teacher who had undone two buttons on her blouse subtly while walking over to him. The teacher who was basically thrusting her breasts in my mate’s face...I know I’m denying him right now...but he’s still my mate and she needs to back off. My honed hearing picked up on feet walking towards me and a subtle sniff made me realise it was Darren. “Alexis,” Darren murmured as he came to a stop behind me. “Yes asshole?” I turned to scowl at him and he rolled his eyes. Lea shot me an amused look and I winced, probably shouldn’t insult her mate. “Chill out sister, you’re so aggressive recently,” Darren said quietly. “Well you people keep annoying me,” I said simply. “Damian wants to speak to you at lunch, he said to meet him by the stands on the pitch,” Darren informed me. I sighed and glanced to Zane to find him staring at Darren with narrowed eyes. Zane’s eyes flickered to me and I gave him a weird look that made him shake his head. I glanced to the side of me and saw Darren kiss Lea on the head so I gagged loudly. Darren grinned and Lea blushed then he stole one more kiss and left. I turned back to see Zane was looking down the teacher’s top blatantly and she looked smug. I focused a glare on the back of Zane’s head and saw his lips tug up into a smirk that irritated me. “I’m either going to kill myself, everyone else or him,” I said through gritted teeth. “I vote him,” Lea said nonchalantly but there was a grin toying at her lips. Out the corner of my eye I saw Zane scowl at her and she snickered. We carried on with our work and I sighed feeling suddenly tired. “The anger wears off really quickly, as the stages progress they get longer though. The anger should last three days most, the giggles five days, the attraction a week and the heat ten days. After that it just literally stops and never starts again. Heat however comes back once a year, that’s why at a certain point in the year you never see your parents,” Lea informed me. I grumbled under my breath and saw her smirk. “So when did you realise I’m not human?” I asked the one question on my mind. “Quite quickly, my Dad taught me how to track so I picked up your scent pretty quickly...your brothers are just oblivious and stupid,” Lea said with a careless shrug. I nodded and finished my questions. “So have you mated with Darren?” I inquired curiously. “Nope, I’m two days into stage three. Apparently he wants to wait until I’m eighteen...in three days,” Lea replied sulkily. I snorted and when I looked up my eyes met Zane’s. He gave me a small smile and I looked down. I walked across the pitch with my jacket slung over my shoulder and a bored look on my face. Damian was sat on the stands leaning his elbows on his knees and I approached him warily. “Brother,” I called out in greeting when I was close enough. “Alexis,” he retorted without looking at me. |
