-------------------CONTINUATION------------------- He read on... "The magic book reveals secrets that are unknown to ordinary beings neither indeed can be. It makes and also destroys kings. It is not a childish affair. Indepth concentration and focus is required to fully comprehend the mysteries found therein. I advise that if you have come across this book by mistake to immediately return it and not continue in what could lead to your demise. The magic book will not be held responsible for the effect it may have on the reader..." He paused for a while. The book talks like its has a personality. Why was he having the feeling that something was about to go wrong? Why did he feel the urge to close the book shut, strap it and hide it, forever? Anyways, nothing could be more dementing than his present state. He was not afraid. He had seen the worse: sleep in a room filled with worms, gone to the Albanian forest alone at night unguarded, and worse still, attended to Gofrin's stupendously stupid tasks for a whole day. Certainly, it couldn't get worse. He braced himself. He turned the next page and saw what looked like a hollow that had been created to fit the hand. He tried fitting his left hand but it didn't fit as it was meant to fit the right. It wasn't that he didn't know, but he thought that it would be better(should it be the case) to lose his left rather than his right hand which happened to be his better ha nd. He had to choice but to place his right hand if he was to advance further and dig up more secrets. He seemed bent on discovering the hidden secrets, an attitude that had often times gotten him into trouble. He fitted his hand in and it was a perfect fit. He waited for something to happen but nothing did. Just as he was about to remove his hand,he felt his hand press tightly against the hollow. He tried removing it but it got tighter. He began to feel a burning sensation, like the ball of his palm was being roasted. He gave an effort to yell but no sound came out. The sensation got worse and just as a tear made its way down his face, it stopped. The grip on his hand had also loosened. He hurriedly pulled his hand out. He examined it only to find to his greatest awe missed with dismay, a golden star engraved on it. ---------------------------------------------------------- What could this mean...a punishment for his over curiosity, or a gift? We will find out soon ---------------------------------------------------------- TO BE CONTINUED... |
India’s Supreme Court issued a disgraceful ruling against human rights in reinstating a law that bans gay sex. On Wednesday, the court reversed a landmark 2009 decision by the Delhi High Court that decriminalized sex between consenting adults regardless of their gender. At issue is Section 377 of India’s Penal Code barring “carnal intercourse against the order of nature,” a holdover from British colonial law dating back to 1861. In practice, this law had largely been used by police to threaten and blackmail gays, lesbians and transgender people. Following the ruling, India’s crimes bureau stated ominously that it will begin compiling crime statistics under Section 377 as early as next year. Violation of the law is punishable by a fine and up to 10 years imprisonment. Gay-rights supporters took to the streets in New Delhi in protest, vowing to continue their fight for equal rights and dignity under the law. Human rights groups, including Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, roundly condemned the Supreme Court decision. In its 2009 ruling, the Delhi High Court said Section 377 violated the guarantees of equality and privacy in the country’s Constitution. The Supreme Court disagreed. Writing for the court, Justice Ganpat Singh Singhvi threw the issue to lawmakers, stating that Parliament was “free to consider the desirability and propriety of deleting Section 377 I.P.C. from the statute book or amend the same as per the suggestion made by the attorney general.” The court’s statement inviting the Legislature to amend the law is disingenuous. Given the fractious nature of India’s Parliament, the conservative views of many of its members, and the political stakes in the run-up to general elections next spring, the Legislature is unlikely to take up this issue on its own. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh now has an opportunity to leave a lasting legacy of progress before his government steps down next spring. His cabinet should act immediately to seek a repeal of Section 377. This 1861 law has no place in a 21st-century democracy. _____________CONTINUATION_____________ Back in his room,George opens the parcel carefully as he ate the last of the leftover of bread that had come from the Gofrin's table. It was a book.It looked old but the cover had to have been made from some hard material because it had no sign of a tear.It was titled WISDOM FOR TEENS BY GAMIC FO SETCRES He opened the book and on the front page was a picture of a man,his wife and their little son who appeared to be about a year old. "In loving memory of KING PRINCE" Who was this King Prince and why did his name seem to ring a bell? He asked himself. The name, the name.He remembered now.About a fortnight ago,he had gone to give his master Sir Manterror news of the readiness of his breakfast when he had heard him(Sir Manterror) in a deep discussion of some sought. On closer a look,he had discovered that he wasn't actually talking with anyone but was thinking aloud. "It can't be.The last of the nobles have been destroyed.I watched King Prince bleed to death. It can't be!" "What could be troubling the great warrior?"he had asked himself.Well,he shouldn't bother about matters that didn't concern him,he had concluded. Looking at the photograph,he saw a certain resemblance to the man in the picture but he quickly pushed the thought aside. It would really be foolish to think he was related to royalty. He sighed and read on. "The book you now wield holds the keys to a thousand questions great minds have searched and researched about and have never seen. What you see here shall be to my account but your actions and their consequences forthwith.you shall bear and you alone." "Interestingly cunning!"he muttered to himself as he turned the next page. " In the beginning it existed yet unknown to all creatures. The deep secrets are open to only those who seek deligently. Eyes looking but seeing nothing, ears hearing but discerning nothing.Nose smelling but perceiving nothing.Physical senses alone cannot comprehend the greater knowledge that roams the earth. Do you think you are reading another mere fiction or do you not know that what you are about to embark upon may change the course of your destiny forever ![]() Look again. Those with talents inborn will discern the truth.A puzzle to solve.A mystery to discover NATURE PLAYING THE SCRAMBLE GAME BEYOND THE LETTERS LIES THE NAME " He shut the book closed and murmured the words. They weren't ordinary, they meant something. He reached to open the book but then something caught his attention. The name of the author read GAMIC FO SETCRES. BEYOND THE LETTERS.... Yes,something wasn't right. The name had been scrambled. He tried rearranging the letters and in about ten minutes, came out with a shocking conclusion. The scrambled name was actually the original name of the book;SECRETS OF MAGIC. ------------------------------------------- |
I will continue tomorrow or probably this night.I'm hoping people would like this and that I won't get too much criticism.Good night pals. |
CHAPTER ONE The kitchen seemed busier than he had ever seen. Everyone seemed to be really busy cooking, steaming, stewing and frying. He looked around to see where the aroma that stuck to his nose was coming from. There it was,a mountainous cake had been baked. On seeing him,the baker smiled and handed him a piece but was surprised to be dealt a thunderous slap instead. He jerked up but couldn't see anything. Then a torch shone blinding his eyes. "Will yu geh d f'ck up you little pumpkin?" "Oh!" Twas all a dream. He sighed, dragged himself up and cleaned himself of the dust that clung to his body. He coughed loudly deliberately much to the annoyance of the guard. He was escorted to the room of Gofrin. When they got to the door, the guard left him. He stood waiting at the door. "Do you seriously think I would waste my saliva calling your cursed name? C'mon, drag your stupid ass in you pitiful, foul smelling son of a leper!" George moved quickly into the room and knelt down. "Good mourning,my lout!",his tactical use of words would have gone unnoticed but for the smirk that lingered on his face. "Say that again....say that again, you beast!"he stormed. "Good morning my Rod" "Better. I see you are in a good mood. That 's good for you're in for a great day."He straightened up and cleared his frog like voice. "My clothes are all dirty...." "But my Lor...." Gofrin gave him a deaf ear and went on. "...the floors are dusty, the linens need changing, the bath tub needs scrubbing..." "wud that be all my...." "Shut up. You will not talk until I'm done you silly pig!" "I'm sorry your..." "Finally....I'm beginning a training course with my dad on the art of horse riding today,I need the Haflinger mucked thoroughly" He looked around to see if he had forgotten anything. When he was satisfied that he had forgotten nothing,he dismissed him. "Yuck!what a choice of horses!"George exclaimed. He emptied the wardrobe of clothes and took them out for washing. He came back an hour later and commenced scrubbing of the floors and bath tubs. He was used to this and finished in no time. He would replace the bed spread and linen when he comes back from mucking the horse. He looked at the clock. The time was fifteen minutes to the hour of ten. The horses were usually taken out for riding at ten. He hurried down to the stable and began mucking the ugly looking creature which seemed to notice his disgust as it kept soiling everywhere with its wastes. In no time, his face was covered with it. Just as he was about spanking the horse, he heard a voice and looked up. The appearance was the strangest he had ever seen. The man had his face covered with a dirty brown bandana and his eyes were fiercely cold. His teeth were the color of the soil and he could barely stand on both feet. When he spoke he shook visibly. "How do you young lad?".He stood gaping but shut his mouth in time to rattle his brain to provide an answer. "I'm...I'm well,fine....,sire" "Very well then", he said dipping his hand into his robe and reached for something. George took a few steps backward. "Nothing to fear m'dear.I come in peace".He handed him a parcel wrapped in dark red leathery cloth. It was strapped with belts which looked like they were made from very costly material. He took it and looked at the man in surprise. "Happy 10th birthday son!" He stood agape. He looked down at his shoes to see if he was dreaming. They were still old and wickedly dry. It wasn't a dream. "But how d'you kno...."he asked looking up only to see empty space. He looked around but there was no trace of his strange visitor. "Strange!"he said tucking the parcel into his pocket. He realised that the horse had stopped trying to fight him and now yielded in what seemed like fear. "That's how a good horse ought to behave",he said when he was done padding the horse. He went back to the mansion to see if he could sneak away some food as he was hungry having not eaten the previous night. |
CALL OF THE WIND PROLOGUE: George is the last surviving heir to the throne of nobles. Before he could discern left from right,he was taken away when the fierce minions of the great kingdom SYRIADS invaded the castle. The castle lay wasting in abandonment as no one lives there(at least none moving)for they were all mummified. It was a curse placed on PANTHADRA and on every citizen there.Their souls were encased in their bodies.Unable to die and yet unable to live. George grows up as a slave working for the warrior Manterror who was present to witness the killing of the nobles of Panthadra. He worked all day long scrubbing floors, mucking horses and attending to the needs of Gonfrin,Manterror's slowpoke of a son who always seems bent on ruining George's days. At night,he sleeps in a lightless room which he shares with mices and cockroaches. For him the future was blank but little did he know that soon he would on course to re-writing history.

SOURCE»http://www.codewit.com/nigeria-news/14314-ASUU-urges-members-to-desist-from-working-against-union Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Lagos Chapter, Dr Oghenekaro Ogbinaka, on Tuesday urged the union’s members to desist from working against its interest. Ogbinaka made the appeal in a statement he made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos. He said that the members should not allow their selfish interests to overshadow the interest of the union. He alleged that some members of the chapter called an illegal congress recently but failed in their bid to carry out `illegal activities’. ```Congress anticipated their plot that was borne out of greed. ``No member of the University of Lagos Branch of the ASUU is, therefore, taken aback on their action, `` he said. |

Two weeks ago, I paid a visit to Dubai for the very first time. Dubai is everything Lagos is not. Dubai works: Lagos does not. Dubai is spotlessly clean: Lagos is filthy. Dubai is bathed in gleaming electricity. Lagos is shrouded in darkness. Dubai is organized. Lagos is disorganized. After a few days in Dubai, I longed to be back in Lagos. What is the attraction of Lagos relative to a city like Dubai? The answer is actually very simple. Lagos is the very best city in Nigeria; the very best country in the world. I have traveled all over the world. I have been to the Far East, to the Middle East, to North and Latin America and to Europe. I have been to over 30 African countries. This qualifies me to make this assessment. Nigeria is the very best country in the whole wide world. Made-in-Nigeria There are too many things that make Nigeria exceptional and without equal. If Nigeria were not so wonderful, there would not have been 170 million Nigerians. Because Nigeria is such a great country, we are determined to give birth to as many children as possible so that even more people can partake of the pleasures of living here. We manufacture babies by the thousands and the millions because we are in love with the country. Nigerians don't commit suicide. Neither do Nigerians ever desert Nigeria. The very worst thing that can happen to a Nigerian is to be exiled from the country. Remember this: Nigeria is nobody's colony. We refuse to be subject to nobody. We are not under the thumb of the British, the Americans or anyone else. Nigeria is the one African country that can be said to be truly independent. We have nationalized all the nationalize-ables. We own the land. There is no foreign settler-community in Nigeria that holds us captive. We are the kings of our castles. Our very best products are made in Nigeria. We make our own mistakes; make our own choices and make our own beds. We rig our own elections. We forge our own passports. We buy our own lies. We deceive our own people. We choose to live in the middle ages and not in the 21st century. We choose to eat in "bukas" and not in restaurants. We choose to eat with our hands and not with forks and knives. We choose to walk rather than fly. Organised chaos Nigerians are natural-born revolutionaries. We like to struggle. We are always fighting something or someone. We don't like the easy life. That is way too boring. We thrive when there is chaos. We make a profit, where there is confusion. We rise up to the challenge, where everything is upside down. If something is well-organised, our first assignment is to scatter it. That gives us room to maneuver. We can handle chaos, but order is another problem entirely. Nigerians hate progress. It does not agree with us. Some smart Alec decided to introduce traffic-lights on our roads. But when there are too many cars on the road, the last things you need are traffic-lights preventing people from going where they want. Traffic-lights make drivers wait, when they should be going. That is such a waste of time. The same goes for traffic-wardens. When you have them obstructing the roads, there are going to be tailbacks. But if you want the traffic to flow, let it be a free for all. Then you will see the ingenuity of Nigerians. We will climb up any and every possible place, and convert it to super-highways. Moreover, our roads are theaters where drama is always enacted. That means passers-by don't have to spend money buying tickets in order to watch our plays. You can watch a very interesting TV series just by sitting on your balcony and watching Nigerians negotiate their way every day. In one afternoon, you will see David killing Goliath. You will see Mohammed Ali fighting Joe Frazier. You will see Arnold Schwarzenegger terminating his opponents. You have to admit this kind of free theater is not readily available abroad. NEPA problem Can you imagine a country where there is 24 hour electricity? That is Nigeria's worst nightmare. For years, many nincompoops have tried to convince us to improve the electricity situation in the country, but we have wisely refused to be taken in by such deception. Why would we want good electricity when most of what we do is done under the cloak of darkness? Why should NEPA work when there are things that need to be hidden, including the rubbish that have taken over our roads. Any right-thinking person knows there are serious criminal issues in Nigeria that should not be brought to light for the sake of national security. Just think about it: 24 hour NEPA. How boring that would be? Nigerians would have nothing to talk about. We would have nothing to complain about. We would not be able to have tales by the moonlight. We would spend too much time watching television. The economy would suffer because generator sales would plummet. Those of us making ends meet by selling diesel would be in trouble. Generator repairmen, major contributors to the economy, would go out of business. Spare-parts sellers would not be able to sell even good spare- parts, how much more fake ones. Let's face it; should Goodluck Jonathan succeed in improving the problem of electricity in Nigeria, it will lose him the next election for sure. He will not even be able to secure the nomination of PDP, which we all know is a party of diesel-sellers and generator repairmen. Valuable corruption There is so much talk about corruption. But if there were no corruption in Nigeria, there would be social upheaval. Can you imagine a corruption-free Nigeria? Don't even bother. It would be disastrous. Millions would die of starvation. How can a man sustain his family if he cannot lie, cheat and steal? As Nigerians, it is high time we come to terms with who we are, instead of pretending to be what we are not. We are a corrupt people. It is not just our leaders: we are all corrupt. We are thieves. We love to steal. We celebrate thieves and give them national awards. We recognize that stealing is an art. To be a successful thief, you have to be skillful; you have to be ambitious; you have to be imaginative; and you have to be courageous. We are criminals because we are smart. We bring innovation to everything. Nigerians know that successful thieves are men of destiny: renowned statesmen; famous politicians; erudite managing-directors. Therefore we eulogise thieves. We sing their praises. We give them chieftaincy awards. We give them our daughters as third wives and concubines. We prefer them as our presidents, governors and legislators. Who wants an honest man as his representative in Abuja? That is a sure way to ensure you will not get your share of the national cake. Had it not been for corruption, Nigeria would not have survived. Corruption is the glue that holds the fabric of the country together. It ensures that, one way or another, we get paid. It provides a social security system. Corruption helps us to redistribute wealth between the rich and the poor. The rich steal from the government; the poor steal from the rich; and everyone is happy. If there were no corruption, there would have been a violent revolution a long time ago. You can pocket a few monies from work illegally because nobody in his right mind expects you to be able to afford even your transportation costs from your meager salary. If you are caught and prosecuted, all you need to do is ask your mother to come to work to plea-bargain for you. Thanks to corruption, we can put food on our tables. We can send our children to school. We can pay for the aso- ebi. We can keep up with the fashion trends. Traffic jams There is one fundamental reason behind the traffic situation in Nigeria. Nigerians are a wanted people. Therefore, we are always on the run. Somebody somewhere is after us and we need to make quick getaways. We are on the run from our wives. We are on the run from our children. We need to get away from our extended families. But even more urgently, we are on the run from the law. We are on the run from the state government. We don't want to be caught by the friend we borrowed some money from last year. Thank God for traffic jams. Isn't it wonderful that you can do all your shopping while driving on the road? How many countries do you know where you have that kind of facility? You can even get your car washed while on your way to work; without having to stop or park. And if there is any problem with your car while you are on the road, you will be grateful that you are in Nigeria. One out of every two Nigerian pedestrian is a London-trained mechanic. In case you are wondering, there is London; and then there is Osapa-London. You also don't need any GPRS in Nigeria. Every pedestrian knows exactly the way to where you are going. So if you are lost, simply ask for directions and then you will really get lost. Conclusion All this explains why, in spite of everything, Nigerians are the happiest people in the world. We are deliriously happy. Don't believe the lie. Nigerians complain a lot about Nigeria. But that does not mean we would have Nigeria any other way. We complain because we love to complain. If everything was alright about Nigeria, we would be miserable. Let's face it, Nigerians love Nigeria. Nigeria is the way it is because Nigerians love it so. If it were not so, we would have made amends in over 50 years of independence. One last thing of the utmost importance: Nigeria is the very best country in the world because in Nigeria you will find Nigerians. |

Barely a few days into the job, new Barcelona coach Tata Martino is already getting his feet wet. He has welcomed back the senior players who were away after the Confederations Cup, and he has looked to alleviate any concerns that Cesc Fabregas may have about his future at the Catalan club. Keeping Fabregas would be a huge statement from the new Barca boss, but he also wants to add a new defender to the star studded squad that he. has inherited. Barcelona's center back options are limited, especially after PSG's signing of Marquinhos and their refusal to discuss a fee for Thiago Silva. The Brazilian captain, considered by many to be the best defender in the world, was Barcelona's first choice, but they now have to move onto other targets. Martino has targetted the Premier League in his chase for a center back, with the likes of David Luiz, Jan Vertonghen, Daniel Agger, Thomas Vermaelan, and Vincent Kompany on his wish list. The problem for Barcelona is that each of these players is considered close to indispensible by their current clubs. The most realistic of these transfers may be Thomas Vermaelan, with the Arsenal skipper having lost his place in the team towards the tail end of last season. Even then, it would take a huge fee for Arsene Wenger to consider parting with the talented Belgian. Martino knows that despite the attacking talents of Neymar and Messi, his side will not challenge Bayern and Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League unless they shore up their leaky defense. It is now time for the Barcelona board to back their new coach and make the signing of a center back the priority.

• Home-based athletes, officials depart August 5 THE final rehearsals planned by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) for Team Nigeria athletes ahead the 14th IAAF World Championship in Moscow, may have been called off due to what an official described yesterday as ‘fund constrain.’ The World Championship tagged: Moscow 2013 will commence on August 10 and the AFN had planned a two-week camping for the athletes in a city with same weather condition with Russia. A source close to the AFN told The Guardian Tuesday that there was no longer room for such plan because according to him, the Federal Government was not forthcoming with financial assistance to the federation to actualise the world championship plans. “The AFN has tried every means to get money from the National Sports Commission (NSC) for Team Nigeria’s preparation for Moscow 2013, but things are not working out. It means we have to bank on element of luck to win medals in the championship and this is unfortunate,” the source said. At the end of the Cross River/All Nigeria Open in Calabar, the AFN came up with its list of athletes that will fly the nation’s flag in Moscow. At that occasion, the sports minister and chairman of the NSC, Bolaji Abdullahi assured the athletes that the country would give them the support they need to excel in the Moscow. Even President Goodluck Jonathan has repeatedly assured that the country’s athletes would not lack anything in terms of preparation for major championships. Our source lamented yesterday over the no fund situation from the NSC, saying that the country’s athletes, particularly the relay teams, might find it difficult to match their opponent squerely when hostilities begin in Moscow. “My major worry is our relay teams. They have a good chance to win medals this time around, but with this no fund situation, which has stopped the camping exercise, they may not practice well before the games. What it means it that we just have to bank on luck. That is not good for a country like Nigeria. I am sure the authority would not do this to a junior football team not to talk of the Super Eagles in their preparation for the World Cup. It is unfortunate,” the official said. Another source hinted Tuesday that the sports minister has promised to ‘assist’ the AFN with allowances for the athletes only. “The minister said the IAAF is taking care of Team Nigeria’s participation in the World Championship and he will only assist the AFN with some allowances for the athletes. Probably, he doesn’t know that it is the responsibility of each country to prepare its athletes for the games,” the source added. Meanwhile, home-based athletes and officials of Team Nigeria are expected to depart for Moscow on August 5, an official said yesterday. The 14th IAAF World Championship will be the largest global sporting event of the year, with an anticipation that the nine days event will reach a cumulative audience of more than five billion TV viewers. The IAAF President, Lamine Diack had disclosed during the closing ceremony of the World Youth Championship held in Donetsk, Ukraine, that more countries would watch the Moscow 2013 Games live, adding that broadcasting agreements were in place covering more territories than ever before in the history of the IAAF World Championships. |
Akwa Ibom State Governor Godswill Akpabio says he has no anointed candidate to succeed him in 2015. The governor said only God would determine his successor. The governor, represented by the state Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr. Emmanuel Enoidem, said this while inaugurating some projects at Nsan. According to him, beyond human imagination, whoever pleases God, will be the next governor of the state. The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Anietie Ukpe, stated this in a statement on Saturday. Akpabio called on the people to go into prayers so that God would give them another leader, who would continue with the transformation programme in the state. The governor said, "I have given a sense of dignity, respect and responsibility to Akwa Ibom people; hence, we need the sustenance and sustainability of this culture and a man, who is competent and has the capacity to continue with the current tempo of development in the state. "If there is any government in the history of Nigeria and Akwa Ibom State that has been so sensitive to the plights of the people and passionate about provision of infrastructure, it is my government." |
