A logo is not a brand, a logo is a symbol of identity. The purpose of a logo is not to describe but to identify and differentiate one company from another. Logo design process includes:
1. Research: get your clients' brief and do your research ( market and competitive research).
As small as using google to look at different logos in a particular industry, you are still doing your research
.
2. Sketch: never understand the power of your pencil and paper. Make 10 quick drafts in 10 minutes, this will help you think creatively and also help you create simple forms.

3. Design: This is where your software knowledge comes in, the best software for logo design is adobe illustrator (it is a vector based software). While designing your ideas, keep in mind that the best logo forms are crafted out from black and white so never start your logo design with colors.

3. Stylescape: do you want an elegant or rustic look and feel for the brand? You can use stylescape to dictate the color tune and feel.

4. Application: when you are delivering your final files, try to show some applications of your logo using mockups.
