The poor fan attendance at the Rivers United vs Enyimba NPFL Matchday 27 fixture on February 22, 2026, at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt was a noticeable issue, despite the game being billed as a heavyweight clash between two prominent clubs. The match finished 1-1 (Joseph Abiodun scored for Enyimba in the 28th minute; Aniekeme Okon equalized for Rivers United in the 43rd) In contrast, the smaller group of traveling Enyimba fans were more audible and celebratory post-match, rejoicing over the valuable away point gained against a title-chasing side. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUqGN4LMMZo?si=JGqvvvqOOfTWojkf |

Queen Osunju Jaja was one of the wives of King Jaja of Opobo (also known as Jubo Jubogha, c. 1821–1891), the renowned 19th-century Nigerian merchant-king who founded the Opobo Kingdom in present-day Rivers State, Nigeria. She is specifically described in historical accounts as the youngest wife of King Jaja. Queen Osunju is remembered for her quick thinking and loyalty in a notable incident during the kingdom's turbulent period. As King Jaja and his entourage fled Bonny during conflicts (leading to the establishment of Opobo in 1869), he realized vital documents — including important treaty papers and records related to house histories and dealings with Europeans — had been left behind. He ordered the boat to return to retrieve them, but Osunju revealed she had cleverly hidden and protected the boxes by sitting on them for safekeeping. This act helped preserve crucial records that supported the kingdom's history and claims. Her legacy continues in Opobo, where Queen Osunju Jaja Compound (also called Queen Osunju Jaja House) exists as a recognized section or compound in the town. This naming reflects her status and contributions, and descendants or associated leadership (such as chairmen of the house in later years) have referenced her in historical contexts.King Jaja, who rose from enslavement to become one of the most powerful rulers in the Niger Delta through trade dominance (especially in palm oil), had multiple wives — as was customary for leaders of his stature. :Queen Osunju stands out in the records not just as a consort but as an intelligent and resourceful figure who played a direct role in safeguarding the kingdom's important documents during a critical time of transition and resistance against external pressures. Her story is part of the broader legacy of strong women in Opobo's royal history. |
