TravelRe: What Country Can My Friend Travel To With A Budget 7m - 10m Naira? by Paragonpric: 8:32pm On Feb 21, 2025
The grass isn't always greener on the other side. With the right business and motivation that 10M can turn into 70M In 2years if you know what you're doing, I kid you not. But if you're not cut out for business you can as well travel out of the country.

In all you do I wish the very best

Its a thing of the mind and its sometimes tied to one's self-esteem

You need to try read books about mind-shift or mind-growth and sometimes, try move with people that would make you feel oppressed. Your relationship with them would force you to change your self-perception

As for that Chicken and Turkey, me sef never chop am since over 15years and thats cause i dont like flying or flightless birds but i dey kilo of pork back to back every weekend like say na Juju

It's great that you're recognizing this pattern and seeking to change it. Breaking free from a poverty mentality can be challenging, but it's definitely possible.

Identifying the Root Cause
1. Childhood experiences: Growing up in a poor household can significantly impact your relationship with money. It's possible that your brain has wired itself to prioritize frugality over self-care.
2. Fear of scarcity: You might be subconsciously afraid that if you spend money on yourself, you'll run out or not have enough for the future.
3. Self-worth tied to money: You may believe that spending money on yourself is indulgent or unnecessary, and that your worth is tied to your ability to save and invest.

Strategies to Overcome Poverty Mentality
1. Gradual exposure: Start small by treating yourself to something you enjoy, like a nice meal or a new outfit. Gradually increase the frequency and value of these treats.
2. Self-care budgeting: Allocate a specific amount for self-care and personal expenses each month. This will help you prioritize your own needs.
3. Reframe your mindset: Challenge negative thoughts by reminding yourself that taking care of yourself is essential to your well-being and success.
4. Invest in experiences: Instead of just buying material things, invest in experiences that bring you joy, such as travel, learning a new skill, or attending events.
5. Seek support: Share your struggles with a trusted friend or mentor and ask for their support and guidance.
6. Practice self-compassion: Be kind to yourself as you work through this process. Remember that it's okay to make mistakes and that you're doing the best you can.
7. Celebrate milestones: Acknowledge and celebrate your achievements, no matter how small they may seem.

Additional Tips
1. Dress for success: Invest in a few quality outfits that make you feel confident and professional.
2. Eat nutritious food: Focus on consuming healthy, balanced meals that nourish your body and mind.
3. Take breaks and practice self-care Regularly take time off to relax, recharge, and engage in activities that bring you joy.

Remember, overcoming a poverty mentality takes time, patience, and self-awareness. Be gentle with yourself, and don't be afraid to seek help when you need it.
Thank you for taking out time to write this. Much appreciated

I had this boss one time...

The very first day I met him I thought he was a driver because of the way he was dressed...he came down from his car with worn out pam sandals and a slacked round necked lopo(not polo) he came with his well dressed and pleasant looking friend so I assumed his friend was the boss, even though I greeted both of them warmly.

This boss of mine hardly spent money on him self... If we had gigs outside kaduna he would buy tickets for staff to travel by air, while he would go and board those luxurious busses and arrive a day later. Infact some one even said he never paid for a seat but would pay for standing so when a passenger dropped along the way he would sit.

This is a man that had wealth and could afford most things if he wanted.

I never really gave much thoughts to his actions but like most have stated on this thread I agree that it could be poverty mentality tied in inferiority complex. This man came from a humble background and built his business from scratch. Maybe he felt he didn't deserve the good things in life.

The peculiar thing is he had no qualms spending on other people. His staff had the best welfare packages compared to competitors, he also had better salary scale and never had any problem giving people gifts or helping them financially - he just never spent on him self.

Maybe other things gave him satisfaction!
grin grin are you sure am not your boss sir? grin grin. This best describes me intoto. I can spend money on people but not myself. I do enter public transport too. May God help me.

If you maybe wanted to eat chicken at this moment, what thoughts stop you from doing just that? Why do you give in to the thoughts that stop you from fulfilling your desire to maybe eat chicken? undecided
I will feel it's a waste of money to eat it. So I'll rather get crayfish or dried panla fish to eat

This story sounds like the guy I read his story where after he bought a car, because he was used to his poverty, he forgot he came to office with car and went back home using taxi.

Guy,I used to be like u. But today, na me flex pass but I do it in a responsible manner.

Eat 1% of ur gain by going out with a woman not some men that would envy u ooh...a woman that would never think of harming u.

Eat it with ur mouth.
That is what I do with my wife...go to her office, pick her up and take her to abacha barracks where we eat enough fish and drink to our satisfaction.

Sometime...I pick up my wife and her friends for Eat out.

Life goes on.

Nothing wrong in it...u are still battling with success consciousness, with time it would evaporate.

Good luck bros.
Am not married yet. But it's a woman I met just this week that opened my eyes to my mentality. I truly saw nothing wrong in what I was doing. It's as if she saw right through me. I couldn't believe my ears when she told me everything like she knew me since 20years ago.

Good afternoon everyone, am a 28 year old guy with good successful businesses and I can say I am doing well all thanks to God.

The problem I have is my inability to spend money on myself, I don't dress well nor do I eat well. People often doubt if I have the things I have cos I don't look it at all. Am modest to a fault, I haven't eaten chicken for the last 5years am being serious here. I just find it extremely difficult to spend money on Myself.

Sometimes I wonder what's wrong with me. I asked my few friends if I give off poverty mentality vibes and they said YES. Growing up was really really tough on me as i come from a very poor home, I don't know if that has affected my psyche.

Please how do I defeat this mentality
