So again let me get this right your case against me is based on a worker you meet in the parc who cleans the cars and polish them who doeasnt know anything about the prices or process ?

omicron: i dont understand the part where the buyer will have to directly bear the cost of the cotonou custom for a car already within the borders of cotonou. Is it not the importer that should pay the cost of that and then factor it in his selling price? Pls clarify me on this.

i had the same question when i started here. Let me explain !
The car reaches to Cotonou Port, the transfer, tax, clearence is paid by the importer.
95% of the cars imported to Cotonou are Re exported mainly to Nigeria and Niger, so the car/cars will not be registered in Cotonou.

When the car/cars gets its final destination Nigeria for example then you do the final papers. Cotonou is (free zone) like Dubai or Antwerpen with (NETTO) cars only.

But even if you pay the Cotonou custom and the nigerian custom 9 of 10 times its cheaper then importing trough tincan or apapa.

laydub: I can say categorically that most agents dupe buyers. I went to one of the PARC with an agent, who didn't give me the chance to speak with the dealer.He kept running all over the place.
Eventually, I made my choice and transferred
initial deposit into a nigerian account no he gave me. He cheated me on exchange rate, told. me cost of clearing/security/battery was 600k CFA. If not for this page, believe me I wld have lost more money.
I would say its better if agents will just come out and say what they will charge
rather than cheat.

Perhaps it will be useful if u have trusted agents u can recommend to your customers to help them in processing their cars in case of difficulty. of course such agents will be rewarded for their service by the customer

As you can see here on this thread the so called agents hate me becuse i speak about the truth, so i dont have anyone that i can trust. I have had a lot of customers coming to Cotonou for first time and the managed to make everything alone.
And even I am there and i have 3 workers in my parc that also can help if there would be any difficulties.
