Sports › Fifa Bans Ghanaian Referee Joseph Lamptey For Life For 'match Manipulation' by Pasqual(op): 9:24am On Mar 21, 2017 |
Ghanaian referee Joseph Lamptey has been banned for life by Fifa Ghanaian referee Joseph Lamptey has been banned for life by Fifa for what it calls "match manipulation". The ban results from a penalty he awarded to South Africa in a 2-1 win over Senegal in a 2018 World Cup qualifier in November. He penalised Kalidou Koulibaly for handball, but replays showed the ball hit his knee. Football's world governing body says it will give more details "once the decision becomes final and binding". Lamptey can now appeal to Fifa and the Court of Arbitration for Sport. One of his assistants, David Laryea, also from Ghana, had charges against him dismissed by Fifa's disciplinary committee. The win for South Africa left them in second place in the four-team group after two matches, with Senegal in third. Lamptey, who also officiated at the Rio Olympics last year, declined BBC Sport's invitation to comment, saying he would do so later. The Senegal Football Federation (FSF), who made a complaint to Fifa over Lamptey, is happy with the decision. "Today there are many reasons to be happy about this decision - a decision that will be remembered as being significant but will also warn everybody that they are being watched," FSF vice-president Abdoulaye Sow told BBC Sport. "All cheating and stealing will be punished according to its gravity. "Fifa has clearly struck a big blow and has promised in its decision to talk again about the match when the decision is final and binding."

Sports › Re: EPL Matchday 29 Club Stats: Day 2 by Pasqual(m): 9:15am On Mar 20, 2017 |

The day 2 kickoffs for the premier league match day 28 commenced and ended successfully. Three games were played today with a cracker between two of the top 4 sides currently in the league. Relegation threatened Middlesbrough, after sacking Aitor Karanka welcomed Manchester United at the Riverside Stadium. Tottenham welcomed Southampton to White Hart Lane and for the match of the week, Manchester City welcomed Liverpool at the Etihad.
The early kickoff saw Middlesbrough welcome Manchester United with a 4-3-3 formation while Mourinho’s men reacted with a 3-4-2-1 formation. Man United ran away 3:1 winners with Fellaini opening the scoring with Lingard and Valencia consolidating on the win to ensure they moved up the table from their seemingly endearing sixth position Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs welcomed Southampton, deployed a 3-4-2-1 and saw their rivals fall prey with a 4-2-3-1 formation. Eriksen and Alli were on hand to give Spurs the lead in the first half and ensure they ran out 3:1 winners The match of the week! Guardiola’s City welcomed Klopp’s Liverpool with a 4-1-4-1 formation while their rivals fought back with a 4-3-3 formation. The game ended in a 1 all draw as none could outwit each other for a win.
Interesting and tightly contested games on the day. Below are some of the numbers from today’s fixtures:
9 goals were scored on the day Home sides scored 4 with the away sides scoring 5 Most used formations on the day were 3-4-2-1 and 4-3-3. 2 sides each. Manchester united scored the most goals of the day. Away from home to Middlesbrough – 3 No clean sheets on the day All participating teams on the day hit the back of the net 2 penalties were given on the day. To Tottenham and Liverpool 14 yellow cards were brandished on the day. Least cards were brandished in the Middlesbrough vs Manchester United game. 1 yellow card each. Pass masters were Manchester City with 563 passes Possession masters were Middlesbrough with 64% Manchester City committed the most fouls. 14 compared to Liverpool’s 7 which was the least
A day of open encounters where all sides had the opportunity to score. The talking point will be Man United’s move up the table after spending months on sixth position. I’d give them the performance of the day as they quelled Boro’s resurgence towards the end of the game to secure all 3 points despite missing some key players. We look forward to the resumption of the league after the international break
