PoliticsFayose Knocks Police For Calling Ortom A Drowning Man by patakioy(op): 1:54am On Feb 07, 2018
The Ekiti State Governor , Ayodele Fayose , has described the comment made on a private television station on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer , Mr . Jimoh Moshood , describing the Benue State Governor , Samuel Ortom , as a “ drowning man . ”

This , he said , was an insult on all the governors in Nigeria .
The governor said the police authorities must retract the comment and tender an unreserved apology to Ortom, the people of Benue State and the Nigeria Governors ’ Forum .

Fayose said it was unfortunate , regrettable and a height of irresponsibility for the FPRO to have insulted a governor who represented one of the federating units in Nigeria .
He said , “It is now clear that the police have become an organ of the All Progressives Congress government , acting as if its only duty is to protect the interests of President Muhammadu Buhari and his allies. ”
Fayose , who also condemned the police for declaring the spokesman for an ex- military dictator , General Ibrahim Babangida ( retd . ) , Mr . Kassim Afegbua , wanted , asked the police whether there was any report by Babangida against Afegbua .

He stated this in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media , Lere Olayinka.

Fayose said , “Rather than trying to gag Nigerians and acting as if it has become law unto itself , the police should go after the killer herdsmen and their collaborators .

“ On whose complaints did the police declare Afegbua wanted ? Did General Babangida lodge any complain against him ? Was there anything in the statement released by him that Nigerians do not know before now? Is it not true that President Buhari has looked the other way while herdsmen were killing Nigerians ?”

PoliticsDefend Yourselves If Attacked, Benue Gov Tells Residents by patakioy(op): 1:43am On Feb 07, 2018
The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has called on the people of the state to defend themselves if attacked.
The governor, who spoke on a radio programme titled, ‘Issue of the moment’ monitored by our correspondent on Tuesday, said it was necessary for the people to defend themselves in order not to become easy preys.
Ortom noted that in spite of the presence of policemen in the state, killings were still going on in two local government areas.
He flayed the statement credited to the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, which blamed the anti-open grazing law for the New Year attacks, saying it encouraged the herdsmen to carry out more attacks on the state.
He said, “I think the people should have the right to defend themselves and not to make themselves easy preys to be killed in their homes.
“So any lawful means you can adopt to defend yourself, just go ahead in Benue State. We are not going to wait for the Inspector-General of Police to do it.”
The governor however commiserated with the families of the policemen killed in the attacks.
“It is unfortunate, the people are dying and the Inspector-General of Police is playing politics with the issue. The man should resign because he has failed woefully. He doesn’t have the capacity.
“There are many good police officers who can take over that job and perform creditably by turning around the security architecture of this country, making things work and protecting lives and property. That man has no business being the IGP,” Ortom lamented.
Meanwhile, the governor has lifted the curfew imposed on Gboko town.
Ortom had last Wednesday imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on the town following the killing of seven travellers.
Ortom announced the lifting of the curfew at a meeting he held with the leaders of the Benue Motorcycle Association and heads of security agencies at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi.
He condemned the killing of the travellers and maintained that the victims were not Fulani people as reported.

PoliticsBuhari Ignores Health Minister, Reinstates Suspended NHIS Chief by patakioy(op): 1:36am On Feb 07, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari has reinstated the suspended Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Usman Yusuf.
Mr. Yusuf was suspended by the Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, in June 2017, following allegations of gross misconduct.
A panel commissioned by the minister after Mr. Yusuf’s suspension later found him culpable of infractions that ranged from nepotism to theft of public funds.
An administration official familiar with the development told PREMIUM TIMES Tuesday evening that Mr. Buhari did not consider Mr. Yusuf’s indictment by a ministerial panel before asking him to return to work.
According to the source, the letter of reinstatement was sent to Mr. Adewole on Tuesday evening.
Mr. Adewole confirmed receipt of the reinstatement letter to PREMIUM TIMES Tuesday night, but did not elaborate on when Mr. Yusuf would resume or under which terms.
“It is true that the president has reinstated him,” Mr. Adewole said.
The reinstatement letter urged Mr. Yusuf to work closely with the minister upon resumption.
