Politics / Why Nigeria Is Under Developed.. by pcnwamadi(m): 1:33pm On May 12, 2013
recent media report has it that Nigeria has been ranked the second most corrupt nation on earth. While I was trying to digest the import of this report, an email a friend sent to me immediately came to my mind. I want to share it with my readers as it concerns each and every one of us. As you read this, kindly ask yourself these simple questions, and the reason why things are the way they are today in our country will come home to you.

Question: Have you ever:

1. Entered a packed banking hall and instead of joining the queue, sought out the ‘sister of your friend’s cousin’ who happens to work somewhere in the building, in order to circumvent the queue and in the process increase the misery of those doing it the right way by prolonging their waiting time?

2. Driven against the flow of traffic simply because it looks expedient at the time?

3. Given money to a civil servant to ensure that your document gets signed on the same day, when the standard procedure is to wait for two weeks?

4. Induced a police officer to look the other way because your car papers are not in order and you are too sloppy to attend to it?

5. Manipulated the system to obtain admission for your child, knowing full well that s/he did not merit such consideration, and in so doing deprive a better qualified candidate the opportunity?

6. Known a friend/family member living ostensibly above his/her means and legitimate

income and rather than question the anomaly, asked for your share of the unexplained windfall?

7. Voted for someone simply because s/he is from your geographical region, religion, speaks the same language and other such spurious reasons, rather than the merit and fitness of the person?

8. Heaped curses and abuses on your Local Government Chairperson, Governor and President, and on that single occasion you had audience with the idiot, became a wimp and instead spewed false adulations on him, calling him ‘the best thing since sliced bread….’?

9. Evaded tax and duties, and then went ahead to bribe the revenue officer to issue you a fraudulent tax clearance certificate?

10. Obtained a drivers licence without actually being to a testing ground and passing the prescribed practice test?

11. Paid less to clear your goods at the port?

12. When caught-out one way or the other, is your disposition to take full responsibility for your actions or to immediately start thinking/looking for who can/will bail you out/shield you from the natural consequence of your actions?

13. Turned-up late for work and blamed it on nonexistent traffic congestion?

14. Are you the ultimate custodian of the ‘African time’, always late for appointments?

15. Do you live only to enjoy the titillations of your five senses, no matter the negative effect of your ‘enjoyment’ on others and society?

16. Are you an academic but have not contributed anything to the body-stock of knowledge; your specialisation is indolence and college politics?

17. Taken money to vote in a particular way instead of voting your conscience?

18. Covered the truth, thwarted the truth or hinder the arbiter of the truth for your own selfish/sinister motives?

19. Held others to a higher ‘code

of conduct’ than you demand of yourself?

20. Taken money or other valuables under false pretences and justified it on the grounds of ‘this is the way it is done here…’?

21. Having done the above, did you then enter the church/mosque or other religious congregation and gave testimonies of ‘God’s (or Allah’s) goodness’?

22. Are you an integral part of your society’s problem and you do not even realise it?

If ever, you answered ‘yes’ to many of the preceding posers, you have no ground to stand on and criticise those in authority; after all, they represent what you stand for, your modus operandi, your values and your reward systems. Do you disagree?

7.3% paper growth you mean? I mean let us be serious for once and ask ourselves, is this really the best the country can do? During Obasanjo's regime,Nigerians felt it in their pockets when the numbers were indicating that the economy was growing like Usain bolt. We saw infrastructures being revived, banking sector revitalised, education turning a new leaf, and there were so many indices to convinced Nigerians that truly the economy was growing and they felt it as more money rained in their pocket. But since GEJ came to power, you hardly can point to one sector were things have really improved. The two sectors He claimed to have focused on -Agriculture and Power can only be considered to have improved marginally. In education, Health, Commerce and Industry, Mines and a steel, Aviation and Transportation, every one of those have gone worse.

Shut up my frnd, wen OBJ was in power it was same fools like u dat said he neva did anytin good for Nigeria.. Do u spect GEJ to perform magic and fix all d problems in Nigeria dat has been in existence for ova 40yrs in just 2yrs.. U must rily be sick in ur head..

22 REASONS WHY BUHARI CAN NEVER RULE NIGERIA

Originally By: Kekere ekun and Co.

In my books, Buhari is a pretentious anti-corruption fighter. The trajectory of a man's journey in public life matters. For the follwoing reasons I can not vote for Buhari

1. He is an oligarch who does not believe in equality before the law. The way he jailed Lateef Jakande, Jim Nwobodo, Ambrose Ali, Pa Adekunle Ajasin, Chief Ayo Ojewumi on cases that had no foundation and allowed Awwal Ibrahim, the then Niger State governor, who was arrested in Heathrow Airport in London with 14 million pounds sterling and several millions of Niara and dollars to be under house arrest is my evidence. He also allowed Shehu Kangiwa, Sokoto State Governor who conducted and supervised the famous Bakolori Massacre of poor peasant farmers whose land were appropriated without compesation to remain under house arrest.

1(a) Ayo Ojewumi became blind as a result of his imprisonment over false charges and died shortly after.

1 (b) Prof. Ambrose Alli also became blind as a result of this false imprisonment. When he died, he had only one undeveloped plot of land to his name.

1© Pa Adekule Ajasin was never the same after his eventual release and remained sickly for the rest of his life. Whe he died, he never had any property anywhere in the world except the one he had built from his sweat as long term teacher and school principal in Owo township.

2. He put in place a retroactive law that killed three men, innocent men in my book, by public execution. He left untouched an alleged well known drug baron in Ibrahim Babangida who later overthrew his government.

3. He jailed Ndukar Irabor and Tunde Thompson of the Guardian on stories that were factually true under Decree 4. He had told the Nigerian journalists then that it did not matter whether the story reported was true or not, if his regime did not like it, the writer would go to jail.

4. He supervised the smuggling of 53 suitcases filled with cash througth the MMA against the protests of General Tunde Idiagbon and ironically, Abubakar Atiku, the then Director General of the Customs who later became the Vice President and a compromised politician himself. This smuggling of the suit cases were supervised by his ADC, Col. Mustapha Jokolo.

5. He jailed Fela Anikulapo -Kuti on trumped up charges under emergency law which prompted the sentencing judge to confess that he was ordered to do so and apologised to the late musician. It was Buhari's administration that said it has "decided to deal with this Fela problem once and for all."

6. He convinced all the northern political leaders against allowing the National Identity Card program because according to him, this would unravel the myth of Northern population majority

7. He is an Islamic fundamentalist, the Bin Laden of Nigeria, who told his northern followers never to vote for anyone who was not a muslim.

8. He is a coup plotter.

9. He has never been able to account to Nigerians what he did with the 20 billion Naira of the Petroleum Trust Fund of which he was the chairman under Sani Abacha.
9(a) He has not been able to point to any project that he prosecuted outside the Northern Nigeria with the so-caled trust fund.

10. He was in full support of all the atrocities of Sani Abacha against the Nigerian people. There is no single record of his criticism of Sani Abacha during those dark days when Nigeria was on precipice. It shows that he is a patriot of convenience and as such unfit to lead the country.

11. Buhari, as part of his tribalistic practices placed President Shagari under house arrest inside a palatia mansion in Ikoyi while he locked up Shagari's Vice, Alex Ekwueme in Kirikiri Prison. Shagari is Hausa/Fulani like him while Alex Ekwueme is an Igboman.

12. Ikemba Emeka Ojukwu, another Igboman who returned from 13years exile just a little over a year then was as well locked up in Kiri Kiri Prison by meanhearted Buhari.Up till today we are not told what was Emeka's offence.

13. Busari Adelakun died of ulcer because Buhari refused him to be taken out of prison for immediate medical attention. The then Governor of Ogun State,Bisi Onabanjo suffered similar fate which we were told led to his untimely death.

14. Buhari ransacked the house of our late sage, Obafemi Awolowo and confisticated his International passport. Which civilized democratic society would elect the likes of Buhari as President, the same individual who overthrew an elected President? Never!

15. Plus Buhari having Sam Mbakwe in jail, went for one of Mbakwe's wives. He established himself again for what he was/is letting Mbakwe receive in jailhouse news of the death of another of Mbakwe's two wives. One (I can't remember his name now; Odenigbo?) also died in jail.

16. Buhari's henchman and sponsor, CPC governorship candidate for Kano State, is Mohammed Abacha, the same person that had/ran a personal killing squad, co ordinated the killing of Kudirat Abiola & attempted to kill Ibru; and also stashed money in underground tanks, all less than 13 years ago, Nigerians have very short selective memory. Shame!

17. Buhari discriminated against persons from other ethnic groups/faiths; and that as PTF Chairman, he employed an overwhelming number of Fulani/Hausa/Moslem people at the detriment of other groups and concentrated PTF projects in the North. If in doubt read El Rufai's testimony where he wrote about Katsina boys who used the money they made at PTF to bankroll Yar'Adua's election in 1999.

18. Buhari is unforgiven. When he "took over" by coup in 1983, even remembered an article written a very very long time ago by Bisi Onabanjo ('The Mallams are coming') and a later one in which Onabanjo wrote that people should watch out for that "gangly officer from the north" after Buhari gave a no holds barred speech at some Army function where he was reported to be very openly pro Fulani and pro Islam to the exclusive of all else and also talked about termination of democratic rule. For that, Onabanjo got one of the harshest jail terms and treatments.

19. Buhari intolerance is worse than Obasanjo's. When he was adopted as the ANPP's candidate on the night of the party's Primaries without prior warning to the other candidates and a few of them protested, Buhari got up and made a speech that those people must be disciplined. I subsequently saw him on BBC's "hard talk" and he frightened me and the interviewer with his archaic and fundamentalist intolerant views. His understanding and articulation is very much in doubt.

20. The evil genius, IBB and his crew similarly ran rings around Buhari. On the 10th anniversary of Abacha's demise, Buhari said that Abacha stole nothing from Nigeria! Despite millions of Dollars recovered from banks around the world and the Abacha family signing a formal agreement to return over $1 billion dollars, Buhari still said that Abacha's stealing remains an unproved allegation!!!! Why? Because Abacha set Buhari up like an emperor and let him use oil money from the Niger Delta to develop the North without supervision or questions.

21. Buhari snubbed the same Nigerians he now wants their votes by refusing to appear before Justice Oputa Truth and Reconciliation Panel. Despite the fact that Buhari knew how inportant reconciliation is to the stability of democracy. Buhari has never apologised at anytime.

22. Buhari executed Lawal Ojuolape (30), Bernard Ogedengbe (29) and Bartholomew Owoh (26). To put it quite plainly, one of those three – Ogedengbe - was executed for a crime that did not carry a capital forfeit at the time it was committed. and At the time Ogedengbe committed the crime it did not carry that punishment. If we must live as civilised citizens we must go by the rules. Article 11.2 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights reads: "No one shall be held guilty of any penal offence on account of any act or omission WHICH DID NOT CONSTITUTE A PENAL OFFENCE, under national or international law at the time when it was committed. NOR SHALL A HEAVIER PUNISHMENT BE IMPOSED THAN THE ONE THAT WAS APPLICABLE AT THE TIME THE PENAL OFFENCE WAS COMMITTED. Killing people with retroactive laws is not the civilised thing to do - and for as long as we will have people who refuse to see the truth only because their heroes are inching to rule when they have not purged themselves we will continue to wallow in misery.

If Nigerians reward dangerous, insensitive, dishonest, mean, cruel, partial, egoistic, religious, fundamendalist, conscienceless human being like MOHAMMADU BUHARI with the presidency of Nigeria with his kind of track record, then why do we still wonder why Nigeria has not and will not make it?

I can not in good conscience support Buhari's candidacy on the above grounds. I wish we have intelligent people who know what democracy means. I wish we have civilized minds. However, I am 100 percent sure that Buhari will never again rule Nigeria.

I-B.:
Time to sweep off the "umbulera" covering showers of blessing from raining on Nigeria/Nigerians. cheesy grin

PDP people go dey $hit for body now cheesy
You witnessed what happened during the Buhari regime and that was why Buhari was removed. People who had contracts with government and voluntarily executed the contracts were accused of corruption. We know all the black and white of award of contracts in most of the countries in Africa and even overseas.

What happened was not the business of Buhari to send the people to jail. I remember, Mallam Ishaku Rabiu in Kano was jailed too. Well, we wouldn’t call it jail; they were incarcerated unnecessarily without term, indefinitely. Some of them died from the complications, arising from such an action. Some, who had money, just paid to free themselves, not because the law said so, they paid because they didn’t want to remain there. Hypertension, stroke, diabetes, blood pressure, so many things killed most of those who remained there.

Buhari can be a good leader but he will never govern Nigeria again, for the singular act of incarceration of politicians without reason or cause; for the singular act of causing the reason of ultimate death or early death of most of the people he incarcerated. That is the reason he may never be president again.

The families of those people, who died have decided to connect with God permanently, seeking God’s mercies on their departed souls. You think those families will not make sure they spend all their earnings to make sure Buhari never becomes President of Nigeria again? It is their right to pray, we cannot stop them. But everybody should understand the issue of the law, its applications with the intention of bringing about good governance in Nigeria.

Accepted, Buhari was a dictator but since he was a dictator, he had no business analysing political processes and direction. That is why he too, under the political process, suffered. The reason Buhari has never succeeded is that people only use him as a launch pad to win elections into the National Assembly and other positions. Buhari was a die-hard dictator; he is the one, who convicted the drug carriers and the newspaper men, who exposed the truth.

Politics / "Pdp Crisis: Amaechi Threatens To Spill The Beans" by pcnwamadi(m): 2:53pm On May 09, 2013
As a fall-out of the crisis currently rocking the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has threatened to open up on all those fighting him, with a view to exposing them to the people of the state.

Governor Amaechi handed down the threat when he received the Anglican Bishop, the Archbishop of the Niger Delta Province of the Anglican Communion and Diocese of the Niger Delta North, Archbishop Ignatius Kattey.

The governor said he was not afraid to open up to the people of the state and the country at large because, as he said, he had no intention of running for any position. He said:”I will speak to the state but not now. When I speak to the state, you will not respect any of those people fighting me.

You will know why they are fighting me. I am not running for any other position that they can say let’s nail him.

“I am not ready to manage information so that people can trust me. I don’t need people to trust me.

It is for me to open up and tell you what the issues are and ask you that now you must become your own soldiers and your own policemen. Nobody realises what efforts we have put in place for you to walk in the streets. All they are interested in is how to bring all those things down. Men of God, you must stand for the truth and preach the truth,” he said.

Politics / Bus Driver Strips LASTMA Official At Point Of Duty by pcnwamadi(m): 5:40pm On May 08, 2013
A 35-year-old commercial bus driver, Abraham Ikujunni, has been arrested for allegedly assaulting an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and resisting arrest.

According to LASTMA authorities, the bus driver allegedly stripped an official, Oyeyemi Olusola, ripping his pair of trousers apart.

It was learnt that the incident occurred on Friday in Ikorodu area of the state.
It was learnt that the suspect was accosted for not wearing a seatbelt before the incident occurred.

A LASTMA official, who craved anonymity, said, “Around 8:26am on Friday, the LASTMA official apprehended the suspect around Odonguyan area of Ikorodu for not using a seatbelt.

“The official entered his vehicle and told him to park properly. He however drove the official into a street where there were commercial motorcycle riders

“The riders then supported the suspect and the LASTMA official was assaulted and his pair of trousers was torn. Fortunately, backup arrived and the suspect was arrested.”

Our correspondent sighted the suspect’s statement in LASTMA office. He denied assaulting the official, but admitted tearing his trousers.

He wrote, “My bus was faulty and I was trying to fix it when the LASTMA man accosted me. He said I should park properly so as not to obstruct the flow of traffic and I parked. He wanted to arrest me and I resisted so a struggle ensued.

“He slapped me and my shirt got torn in the process. I then engaged him in a struggle and while people were trying to separate us, his trousers got torn in the process. Please, I am also a victim.”

The LASTMA spokesperson, Bola Ajao, could not be reached for comment

Politics / Nigeria, South Africa Sign Visa Waiver by pcnwamadi(m): 2:48pm On May 08, 2013
NIGERIA and South Africa have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to make it unnecessary for nationals of both countries holding official or diplomatic passports to acquire visa before travelling to either country.

The MoU was signed on Tuesday between President Goodluck Jonathan and his host, President Jacob Zuma, during a closed door bilateral session between the two leaders in the South African president’s office in Cape Town.

Other MoU signed between the two countries were on cooperation in legal field, oil and gas sector, power sector development, environment, defence cooperation, women development and empowerment, as well as child development.

There were also bilateral agreements on geology, mining, mineral processing and metallurgy and fields of information and communication technology.

The two leaders also agreed on the need for stronger cooperation in other sectors, including economic, social and political development on the African continent.

Speaking after the meeting, Zuma observed that Jonathan’s visit to South Africa had generated a lot of interest, excitement and optimism among its citizens in view of the historic relations between the two leading economies in Africa.

“We have a duty to take this historic relationship further. Our two countries have already grown very warm bilateral relations structured through the bi-national commission that was officially inaugurated in 1999,” he said.

The South African president observed with delight that over 100 South African companies were already doing businesses in Nigeria with the biggest investment being in the telecommunication sector.

He spoke of the plan for the country to expand into other areas such as engineering, construction, banking, oil and the media, noting the need for both countries to promote people to people relationship, especially through tourism, which he said had generated huge foreign direct investments for the country.

“Last year alone, South Africa received a total of 73,282 Nigerian tourists, which is an 13.8 per cent increase from 2011, contributing about 720 million Rands to the South African economy within the period,” Zuma revealed.

In his remarks, Jonathan noted that the signing of nine bilateral agreements between the two countries was a major achievement that would enhance the critical role of Nigeria and South Africa in transforming the continent.

Meanwhile, President Jonathan has stressed the need for African leaders to give the fullest possible attention to the economic emancipation of their countries now that they have successfully liberated the continent from colonialism, racism and apartheid.

Addressing the South African Parliament during his state visit, the President advised the leaders make building strong economies and strengthening democratic governance their topmost priority.

According to him, “On the 25th of this month, Africa will be celebrating the golden jubilee of the Organization of African Unity, now the African Union. As we take stock of the achievements of our continental organization, it is also appropriate that we reflect and decide where our continent should be in the next fifty years.

“That destination has to be a democratic and united Africa that is at peace with itself and can compete with the rest of the world,” Jonathan said.

The president noted that Africa has emerged as the new frontier for trade and investment in the world, added that African leaders must rise to the challenge of managing the new opportunities presented by this situation for the benefit of their peoples and countries.

Furthermore, he said: “There is certainly a lot more that we can do. We must work together to put an end to the exploitation and exploration of Africa’s resources for export without any value added; African countries must transform from being primary sources of raw material into producers to create jobs and opportunities for our people.

“We must check the loss of Africa’s trained manpower to already developed countries. We must work together, to promote trade and investment among our countries and build trans-national infrastructure in such critical sectors as trade, telecommunications, and transportation in order to fast-track the process of people-centred, continental integration.
