After gulping N500 million and reaching over 50 per cent completion level, the Safe Train Control (STC) project of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) has been stalled, Daily Trust can report. The STC is a control centre located within the NRC headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos where train movement across the country can be controlled and monitored as part of the modernization of the operations. Daily Trust reports that the project, which started in 2013, was funded througnh the Subsidy Re-Investment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) of the immediate past administration of President Goodluck Jonathan. Under the SURE-P, created following the partial removal of fuel subsidy, the Federal Government diverted its share of the re-investible funds into critical programmes among them railway modernization. Our correspondent reports that the Safe Train Centre was part of the projects carried out under the Railway Project Implementation Unit of SURE-P for which over N30 billion was released. On August 6, 2015, the immediate past managing director of the NRC, Mr. Seyi Sijuwade, unveiled the STC installed and manned by a South African consortium, Ansaldo Gear Group and A3&O Ltd. He explained that at the touch of a button in the control room, the corporation could monitor real-time movements of trains on the tracks, with the aid of the On Board Computers (OBC) installed on its locomotives. “Before now, we relied on GSM phones to communicate with our drivers. If there is any breakdown or accident or any other challenge, our drivers communicated with the engineers via phone. There’s no way we can monitor all our operations at a glance. This will stop with the deployment of this equipment,”Sijuwade had said then. “Among other features, the equipment enables us to monitor and control train speed, to avoid derailment and collision, and also enhance fuel economy. It promotes efficiency and ensures adherence to journey time by drivers; minimises damage to tracks and other infrastructure. It has the capacity to increase frequency of train movement, with consequent increase in revenue,”he added. However, Daily Trust learnt that at the time the Control Room was unveiled, the project was not fully completed yet. On February 2016, the Joint National Assembly Committees on Land Transport during an oversight visit to the NRC inspected the Control Room with the current Managing Director, Engr. Fidet Okhiria and the Director of Operations, Mr. Niyi Ali, explaining the operation of the project to the lawmakers. The committees were told that the project was stalled by lack of funding. Okhiria at the time said,“It is one of the projects being funded by SURE-P. A lot of equipment was shipped in for the project. They have installed the on-board computers connected with 17 locomotives but the completion and duration is driven by availability of funds. We have received 80 per cent of the equipment needed.” More than two years after that oversight visit, the system has not fully taken off. In fact checks by Daily Trust at the NRC headquarters indicate that the control room has been shut down at the moment. There was no official or personnel in the room as it was locked with all the air-conditioning machines and satellite dish installed outside not functioning. There are fears the cost of the completion of the project would have gone up following the disruption of the project. “The project was stalled by funding and nothing more”, said a source that is familiar with the project but refused to comment further. When contacted at the weekend on the status of the project, the Director of Operations directed our correspondent to the managing director. But the MD could not be reached for comment as he did not return several calls put to him by our correspondent and text message sent to him was also not replied. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/5-years-after-multimillion-naira-nrc-safe-train-system-project-stalls-255756.html |

Despite the security challenges being witnessed in parts of the country, President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday said Nigeria under his watch was now sufficiently safe and secure. He said since the first thing tourists all over the world looked out for was security, Nigeria was now open for tourism. According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President said this while receiving the Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation, Mr. Zurab Pololikashvili, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Buhari said the security situation in the country before the inception of his administration would have made it inconceivable to host an international tourism conference in Abuja like it was being done now. The 61st UNWTO Commission for Africa conference is holding in Abuja. The President said, “I am pleased that the country is now sufficiently safe and secure, and the message should go out to the world for all tourists and business travellers. “The first thing tourists look out for is security and I am happy we have it now. “Minister Lai Mohammed has been trying to convince the world that Nigeria is safe and has great potential for tourism and investment. “I am glad that you and your team have come here to see things for yourself.” Highlighting the nexus between tourism and sustainable development, the President said Nigeria would not be left behind in ensuring that communities and businesses benefit from tourism development. In his remarks, Pololikashvili commended Nigeria for the successful hosting of the conference which brings together African Ministers of Tourism, principal executives of the global tourism body and other stakeholders in the tourism sector. The UN tourism chief told Buhari that Nigeria had huge potential to develop the tourism sector considering its large economy. “We can do it in Nigeria, we can create, convert Nigeria to the main tourist destination in Africa. There is a huge potential here. Culture, nature, food, you have everything here. “You are investing in agriculture, improving seamless travel through visa-on-arrival programme, reforming the economy and doing so much on security. Nigeria is safe,” Pololikashvili said. The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed said 166 delegates, including 26 tourism ministers from Africa were attending the UN tourism conference, holding from June 4 to June 6 in Abuja. http://punchng.com/buhari-says-nigeria-now-sufficiently-safe-and-secure/ |
Hello OP, do you have higher capacity like 1TB and how much do you sell 500GB now? |
It is really funny how people easily point to Fayose as the perpetrator of this assassination attempt and not Tinubu who hasn't been in good term with Fayemi and couple with the fact the politician who hired the policeman came from Lagos, don't also forget the first primary ended in chaos. Does anyone need brain default settings to see that the assassination attempt was sponsored from within the party? |
sarrki, madridguy, buhariguy and other BMC crew, does opacity like this not encourage and embolden corruption and the perpetrators? |
Lalasticlala, what have you to say on this? |
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) says it cannot honour freedom of information (FOI) requests because it is not a public corporation. Femi Falana, a senior advocate of Nigeria, had written an FOI concerning fuel importation data. Falana said Ibe Kachikwu, minister of state for petroleum resources, had directed the NNPC and DPR to supply him the information. “While PEF and DPR have said that they are not in a position to address the issues raised in the letter, the NNPC group managing director, Dr Baru has refused to comply with the directive of the minister.” In a letter written on behalf of the corporation by Omale O.B. Solicitors, it said it does not fall under the purview of the freedom of information act. “Please be informed that our client doesn’t fall under the purview of the freedom of information (FOI) Act, 2011,” the letter by the solicitors read. “The provision of the act particularly section 31 thereof is clear and unambiguous as to the meaning of public institution. “For the avoidance of doubt, the section provides as follows: public institution means any legislative, executive, judicial, administrative or advisory body of the government including boards, bureau, committees, or commissions of the state and any subsidiary body of those bodies including but not limited to committees, and sub-committees which are supported in whole or in part by public funds or which expends public funds and private bodies providing public services performing public function or utilizing public funds. “Our client is neither a legislative, executive, judicial, administrative or advisory body of government of Nigeria. “It is a body established by the law to manage the commercial interests of Nigeria in the oil and gas sector and conduct trade therein. It cannot therefore by any stretch of imagination be brought within the definition of public institution under the act.” O.B. Omale, who signed the letter on behalf of the firm said the NNPC has received judicial endorsements on this position in several cases. NNPC said even if it would qualify as a public institution, the information requested for is not within the purview of the act as it involves trade secrets, non-disclosure agreement and third parties. It said the information does not serve any public interest in its opinion and thus cannot be granted. http://petrobarometer.thecable.ng/2018/06/04/nnpc-rejects-foi-request-says-it-is-not-a-public-institution/ |

While reading and following Saraki's latest ordeals with police as related with Offa robbery case, I stumbled on this throwback headline of Fela being also charged with robbery and flogged in 1984. If you never witnessed 1983, this is another 1983 in 2018.

Sincerely, Tobi doesn't look 23, looks far too old for that age, he should be in late 20s or early 30s, and also considering the fact he finished from UNILAG 6years ago. Not denying the fact 17year old can be a graduate, but isn't common and going by the stories heard about Tobi being a Yoruba demon in his UNILAG days, he couldn't have possibly been 17 years below then. |

ceejay80s: This man sha. Which one be laffing at someone's downfall here. I was just reacting at that comment. BTW, I know sellers which can sell second hand LG/sammy 32" LED TV for 45k, but you claim your umc is superior to those brands as it is European model, which I will not debate on as I don't know anything about umc and will therefore agree with you, but since you claim second hand used umc can even be found for 45k, I think 40k is much for third hand used. Abeg, I'm not dictating your price for you ooooo. Wish you good luck in getting buyer(s). |

ceejay80s:LOL, see how you dey Lara on top simple question if the TV is a smart TV or not? Who dey talk price now? I just wanted to know if it is a smart TV and here you are venting anger on your thread like it is a crime to know if your TV is smart or not. Your needless hystrical reaction just means one thing, the tv isn't a smart one and you couldn't say definite answer. Saying it is not a smart TV will definitely put the TV as over-prized. YOU JUST PLAYED YOURSELF BRO. |
