Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), in collaboration with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the US Justice Department, have seized a luxury vehicle, a 2019 Lamborghini Urus from popular dancehall musician, Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., popularly known as Shatta Wale. In a press release issued by EOCO’s acting Executive Director, Raymond Archer, the agency said the seizure was carried out following a 2023 request from US authorities. The operation took place at Shatta Wale’s residence in Trassaco Valley Phase 1, Accra. “In June this year, the Economic and Organised Crime Office, acting on a 2023 request from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and the United States Justice Department, undertook an operation which led to a lawful search in a home at Trassaco Valley Phase 1, in Accra. “The operation which was undertaken by the Surveillance And Asset Recovery Unit (SARU) of EOCO led to the discovery and seizure of a 2019 Lamborghini Urus which the FBI and the Justice Department have tied to the proceeds of the criminal enterprise of one Nana Kwabena Amuah who is currently serving an 86-month sentence for several financial crimes in the US,” the statement partly read. EOCO revealed that the luxury vehicle was found in Shatta Wale’s possession. He was allowed to surrender it voluntarily to avoid a public scene. “The car was seized from one Charles Nii Armah, aka Shatta Wale. The officers were professional and civil, and the search and seizure occurred without incident. Nii Armah had pleaded with officers that he did not want the seizure to be made public because the vehicle was a big part of his brand, and that if his supporters saw the vehicle being driven away in the company of EOCO, it would destroy his brand. Nii Armah was allowed to surrender the vehicle himself, which is currently in the possession of EOCO,” the statement explained. The agency clarified that SARU officers were armed during the operation as a routine safety measure. “It is a standard safety protocol practice for officers of the Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU) to carry weapons whilst on operation for the safety of officers,” the statement added. According to EOCO, the Lamborghini is linked to criminal proceeds from Nana Kwabena Amuah, who owes $4.74 million in restitution to US authorities. The vehicle is expected to be repatriated to the United States as part of that recovery effort. “The FBI and the Justice Department intend to send a formal Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) to the Government of Ghana to return the car to the United States as part of Nana Kwabena Amuah’s $4,743,443 restitution. Charles Nii Armah, aka Shatta Wale and a former senior officer of the National Signal Bureau (NSB), have been assessed as persons of interest and will be invited by EOCO to assist in further ongoing investigations in the coming days.” EOCO also confirmed it may share its final investigation report with US authorities as part of continued cooperation. “EOCO may share the final investigations report to the FBI and the Justice Department as part of our ongoing cooperation,” the statement concluded.

The Enugu State Police command has intensified its fight against violent crimes with the arrest of thirteen male suspects involved in conspiracy, armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms, and cult-related activities. These arrests, made during a series of recent tactical and intelligence-guided operations, also resulted in the recovery of firearms, vehicles, and other incriminating evidence. According to a statement from SP Daniel Ndukwe, spokesperson of the command, operatives of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad on July 30,while acting on the confessional statement of one Ekene Akpata, also known as Odumodu, a 35-year-old male who is under investigation for conspiracy, armed robbery, unlawful possession of ammunition, and cultism, stormed Oyofo-Oghe in Ezeagu LGA of Enugu State. Ndukwe said the operation led to the arrest of three additional suspects identified as Ebuka Odinko, aged 35, Chiemerie Amano, aged 25 and Onyebuchi Onyekwere, aged 24. Ndukwe said preliminary investigations reveal that they are members of a cult group and have been involved in a series of armed robbery incidents during which they dispossessed residents of their valuables. Similarly, based on the confessional statements of two suspects, Okechukwu Ogbonna, aged 65, from Isuikwuato LGA of Abia State, and Ezeonuji Charles, aged 52, from Aguata LGA of Anambra State, who are currently under investigation for conspiracy and armed robbery, operatives of the same Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad conducted a tactical operation in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, between July 23 and July 28, 2025. Ndukwe said the operation led to the arrest of two more suspects, Udofia Richard, aged 43, from Nkimitam in Itu LGA of Akwa Ibom State, and Richard Arinzechukwu Nwaomu, aged 32, from Ezinihitte Mbaise in Imo State. Ndukwe said that two suspected stolen vehicles were recovered from them: a red Toyota Camry XLE with registration number YEN 221 AG and an ash-coloured Kia Soul with registration number PHC 845 AE. In another operation carried out on July 21, 2025, the same Anti-Cultism operatives arrested three male suspects: Stephen Chidiebere, also known as Shaggy, aged 42; Arinze Udeh, also known as Anonymous, aged 30; and Onuigbo Kingsley, aged 49, in Umuasi Ngwo, Udi Local Government Area. The operatives also recovered a cut-to-size double-barreled gun. Their arrest followed the earlier apprehension of a 31-year-old male suspect, Ikemefuna Ani, also known as Majority, who had been arrested in connection with a case of conspiracy, armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms, and cultism. Preliminary investigations link these suspects to the Confraternity. In a separate operation conducted on July 15, 2025, at about 10:20 a.m., police operatives attached to the Ogui Division of the Command, working in synergy with the Neighbourhood Watch Group, arrested a 30-year-old armed robbery suspect, Ifeanyi Ede, and recovered a pistol-like object, later identified as a Spark-L electronic gas lighter. Armed with the object, the suspect and his fleeing male accomplice had, at about 2:20 a.m. on the same day, robbed a taxi driver of ₦30,000 cash, his vehicle key, a mobile phone valued at ₦17,000, and his bank ATM card. The suspects had boarded the taxi from Independence Layout to Ogui, Enugu. On arrival at their destination, they used the fake gun to rob the driver. However, the operatives promptly arrested Ede and recovered the robbed phone, while his accomplice fled. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect. The police imagemaker further stated that all cases are under active investigation, and efforts are being intensified to arrest the remaining suspects still at large. However, the cases will be charged to court once the investigations are concluded.
