PoliticsKanu Has Pledged To Stop Agitating For Biafra If Nigeria Is Restructured by pentax(op): 9:40am On Aug 31, 2017
Southern Leaders of Thought on Thursday disclosed that they have extracted a commitment from the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, to stop his agitation for the creation of a sovereign Biafran state if Nigeria was truly restructured.

Addressing a press conference on behalf of the forum at Chief Rotimi Williams’ Chambers in Lagos, eminent lawyer and elder statesman, Prof. Ben Nwabueze, said the people who want to break up Nigeria are those opposed to restructuring the country.

The legal icon warned that President Muhammadu Buhari will be courting trouble if he tries to usurp the constitutional powers of the people to demand a better Nigeria through a change in structure.

He explained that the power to restructure the country belongs to the people and not to the National Assembly, insisting that for the peace of Nigeria, the government must not toy with the people’s rights.

According to him: “Self determination doesn’t mean secession as IPOB is clamouring. It means the ethnic nationalities want to govern themselves within Nigeria.

“Restructuring is not a matter that can be implemented by amendment of the 1999 Constitution. It imperatively requires a new constitution adopted or approved by the people at a referendum.

“It is sad that while the clamour for restructuring is reaching a crescendo and is sweeping across the country, the National Assembly is still regaling us with talks about constitution amendment, and buttressing its position by the erroneous assertion that the 1999 constitution can only be amended or altered (sections 8 and 9), but cannot be abolished and replaced by a new constitution. By taking this untenable position, the National Assembly makes itself a big obstacle in the way of restructuring.”

Nwabueze maintained that a negotiated restructuring, implemented through a new constitution, is the best assurance for the realisation of the group’s desire for one Nigeria.

“We think the way forward for Nigeria is for the people, in exercise of the power inherent in them as a sovereign people, to make through a referendum, new constitution, constituting a new political order.

“In our circumstances as a country, with a great vast expanse of territory, comprising a great diversity of ethnic nationalities, with divergent interests and outlooks, it seems generally agreed that a federal system, truly so-called, is the system appropriate for our situation. We, therefore, conceive restructuring as requiring, modified as necessary, the restoration or re-establishment of the kind of federalism that existed under our 1960/1963 constitutions. That is the central object or purpose of restructuring,” he said.

PoliticsNnamdi Kanu Is Funded By The DSS – Ralph Uwazuruike by pentax(op): 9:46am On Aug 30, 2017
The leader of the Biafra Independence Movement, BIM, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike has revealed those funding the Nnamdi Kanu led Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

Uwazuruike, who formed Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, now led by Comrade Uchenna Madu, alleged that the Department of State Service, DSS, was funding Kanu and his followers.

He also accused the DSS of arranging Nnamdi Kanu’s arrest just to bring him (Uwazuruike) down and make him unpopular.

“If Nigeria could not intimidate me, who is Kanu? I just gave him time to fool himself. It’s just like a father fighting his son”, Uwazuruike to Sun.

“The idea of the republic of Biafra was to enlighten the people. When I came out of prison, I felt I needed a radio to enlighten the people and the Federal Government.

“Before Radio Biafra, I had a radio in America called Voice of Biafra International, in 2001. Then there was no Internet exposure like Facebook and Whatsapp.

“We were then in South Africa with Emejuru but Nnamdi Kanu convinced me to come to London. But no sooner we started than Nigeria’s security apparatchik persuaded him to bring down the struggle.

“They had tried it with me without success; they also failed with Ambrose Anyaso, who was with me in detention. When the Department of State Security, DSS, could not get him to pull me down, they turned to Kanu, who wanted money and fame.

“Immediately I noticed this, I stopped funding him. So, he started getting his funds from the DSS directly. The idea was to bring me down and make me unpopular.

“When I noticed that, I kept quiet because I knew him very well; he does not have capacity but they did not know that he did not have the capacity but I knew he would fail at the end of the day.

“His arrest was arranged by the DSS. It was meant to divert attention from MASSOB to IPOB. Even his release was stage-managed.

“No senator deposited one dime anywhere; that is why he is violating all the conditions. How could he violate all the conditions and he is left alone? Even the northern youths coalition is stage-managed.

“What Kanu does not know is American diplomacy, which props you up, only to bring you down. The northern coalition was created to checkmate him.”

CrimeCannibal Arrested While Preparing Pepper Soup With Human Intestines by pentax(op): 2:05pm On Aug 29, 2017
MEN of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested a suspected cannibal and member of a notorious kidnap gang, Roland Peter, for killing, beheading and using the liver and intestines of his victim to prepare ‘pepper’ soup and plantain pottage for himself and his gang.

The suspect was among the kidnappers that abducted, killed and beheaded one Pastor Samuel Okpara from Edoha in Ahoada East Local Government Area of the state on August 15, 2017.

State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zaki Ahmed, who spoke with newsmen while parading Peter and 22 other suspects at the State Command in Port Harcourt, explained that the suspect was also in possession of riffles belonging to the gang.

He disclosed that the kidnap gang, including the leader, who was simply identified as Justus and also known as High Tension, had been terrorising some part of Ahoada East LGA.

Ahmed said, “The Command, in continuation of her onslaught against kidnapping, arrested one Roland Peter, a member of a notorious gang that kidnapped Pastor Samuel Okpara from Edoha Ahoada East LGA in Rivers State on August 15, 2017.
“Pastor Okpara was kidnapped, beheaded and his liver and intestines were used to prepare pepper soup and plantain pottage. He was arrested while preparing the meal for his gang.
“He (Peter) is also alleged to be in possession of the gang’s riffles. The leader of the gang is one Justus (surname unknown), but popularly known as High Tension from Abarikpo in Ahoada LGA. The suspect (Peter) is helping the police in their investigation.”

PoliticsNigeria Overdue For Restructuring – Arewa Youths by pentax(op): 4:44pm On Aug 28, 2017
The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum, AYCF, has noted that restructuring Nigeria should be done by the next administration.

Speaking through its National President, Alhaji Yerima Shettima, the group said restructuring was needed to move the country forward.

The AYCF, however, maintained that restructuring should not be done by the current government which he said should preoccupy itself with stabilising the country and allow its successor to carry it out.

Shettima said, “I am of the view that Nigeria is due for restructuring, I believe that restructuring is one of the problems facing Nigeria, but it should not be on the front burner.

“Some Nigerians are thinking of rebuilding the nation to make it strong.

“Restructuring should not be seen as an issue now.

“Though I am a strong advocate of restructuring, I am of the view that it should not be done by the current government; the government should be allowed to stabilize the polity while we can discuss restructuring when a new government comes on board.”
