Businessman and philanthropist Idris HK on Thursday toured multiple communities in the Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, commissioning completed projects and launching new ones under the Idris HK Foundation. The day-long outreach attracted large crowds and drew blessings from traditional rulers. The visit began at Ogbabo Junction, where residents lined the roadside to welcome his convoy. From there, the team proceeded to Biraidu, where traditional rulers gathered at Emewe Opada to receive him. HRM Acheneje Abdullahi, the Onu Ojomi, and HRM Matthew Daikwo, the Onu Igbologwu—representing the Onu of Abocho—presented kola nuts and formally adopted Idris as a son of the community. All traditional rulers from the Biraidu district were in attendance. At Emewe Opada, Chief Imam Bashiru Amodu led prayers as Idris commissioned a newly completed erosion-control project that restored access to the state capital after six months of total disconnection caused by a massive gully. Community leaders confirmed that Idris personally funded the intervention upon hearing of their hardship. The community also celebrated the foundation’s payment of school fees for 315 students of Ofoji Community Secondary School. The principal, Yahaya Ocheni, joined the Community Development Chairman, Akpa Lawrence Atuluku, students, and the President of the Biraidu Students’ Association at Prince Audu Abubakar University (PAAU), Muhammad Egbojo, to present an award of honor to Idris. “This life-changing humanitarian gesture has not only relieved parents and students of financial burden but has also strengthened students’ passion for education,” the principal said while expressing the school’s gratitude. Abocho youth leader, Siaka Usman, also delivered a message of appreciation. Idris responded by pledging to clear any remaining outstanding fees and promised to provide a borehole for the area on or before 15 January 2026. The entourage later visited the palace of HRM Shaibu Abu Okolo, the Ogohi Onu Anyigba, where Idris apologized for installing a transformer in Obeya Lile without prior notice. He explained that the intervention was triggered by a Facebook post highlighting the community’s prolonged lack of electricity. The Ogohi accepted the gesture with gratitude, describing the transformer as a personal gift to his kingdom and declaring that the entire Igala area remains indebted to Idris. The day continued with the flag-off of electricity extension works at Ate Uge, where engineers are scheduled to be mobilized by 15 December. The tour concluded at Etutekpe, where a large crowd welcomed him. There, Idris pledged to champion improved mobile network access and paid school fees for local students, promising to clear any outstanding balances. Speaking to journalists after the final event, Idris Kashim Hussein emphasized that his outreach is driven purely by humanitarian motives, with no political agenda. “As of today, I am not seeking any political office,” he said. “I am only a businessman who loves his people. But if tomorrow the communities ask me to contest so I can serve them better, I will not decline—because political office would provide the resources and authority needed for capital projects that private efforts alone cannot sustain.” He thanked Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and the Executive Chairman of Dekina Local Government, John Urah, for their leadership and developmental strides and assured that his foundation would continue to complement government efforts to improve community welfare. Idris was accompanied on the tour by friends of the foundation—including Sheikh Ibrahim and Kamar Olachane—as well as other team members. Across all visited communities, traditional rulers, youth, and residents showered prayers and praised his swift-response philanthropy, describing it as a model for grassroots development in the Dekina Local Government Area.

By Christopher Sunday I am compelled by my conscience to write this article because sincere acts of benevolence is like a lamp on a hilltop and a salt to the earth that ought to be announced or projected. For as the Scripture teaches, “You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” (Matthew 5:13–14). In a world where leadership is too often loud, self-centered and transactional, a different kind of figure is rising from the heart of the Igala Kingdom. His name is Idris HK, businessman, philanthropist, bridge builder and a man whose presence quietly alters the lives around him. Without occupying any public office, he has become an anchor of hope for communities long forgotten by conventional structures of power. Idris HK does not fit the stereotype of the modern public figure. He does not chase applause or stage moments for cameras. Instead, his story is woven through the testimonies of ordinary people whose burdens grew lighter because he chose to act. From rural communities that now enjoy clean drinking water to schools revived through scholarships and infrastructural support, his interventions speak of a man who understands leadership as responsibility, not recognition. At the heart of his philosophy is empathy. It is not the distant pity of an outsider, but the lived awareness of someone rooted in the realities of his people. He sees the struggles: the dimly lit villages awaiting electricity, the students who dream big but lack fees, the sick who cannot afford treatment and the elderly who suffer in silence. And he responds the only way genuine leaders do, by stepping in without hesitation. Water projects appear where clean water once felt like a luxury. Transformers arrive where darkness has overstayed its welcome. Medical bills are paid where illness has drained hope. Scholarships are awarded where young dreams risk being extinguished. His approach is not charity for the sake of benevolence. It is development with intention. He believes that every life he touches creates a ripple of transformation. Youth empowerment, community development, healthcare support and educational advancement are not projects to him, they are obligations. They reflect a worldview shaped by the belief that greatness is never personal, it is communal. What distinguishes Idris HK even more is the consistency of his service. It is easy to give once. It is harder to sustain a pattern of giving. And it is rare to do so quietly, without proclaiming one’s generosity. Yet his work remains steady and almost rhythmic, a habit of kindness that has grown into a legacy. Aristotle once said that virtue is not an act but a habit, and in HK’s journey, virtue appears as second nature. He embodies that philosophy with a calm authenticity that disarms even the most skeptical observer. Courage is another thread that runs through his story. It takes courage to confront long-standing community problems. It takes courage to invest personal resources into fixing public challenges. And it takes even greater courage to step forward and say that he wants to do more, for more people, on a larger platform. His decision to pursue broader representation is not a shift in identity, it is a natural evolution. For a man already carrying the weight of his people’s welfare on his shoulders, formal responsibility becomes a logical extension of his calling. The impact of his work is not measured in numbers alone but in the renewed confidence of the people. In villages where despair once clouded the air, hope now feels tangible. In homes where parents struggled to keep their children in school, relief flows once more. In communities where basic infrastructure felt like a faraway promise, transformation now stands proudly in concrete form. The people see him not as a distant benefactor, but as one of their own, a son of the soil committed to rewriting the story of his land. In a time when trust in leadership wanes, when promises often dissolve into disappointment and when many leaders take more than they give, Idris HK offers a refreshing alternative. He represents the possibility of leadership driven by compassion, not ego, by service, not self-preservation, by purpose, not propaganda. He reminds us that true leaders are not defined by the offices they hold but by the lives they improve. And so, as his influence expands and his story reaches more ears, Idris HK stands not just as a man but as a message, a message that leadership can still be noble, service can still be pure and one passionate individual can indeed change the narrative of an entire people. His journey is far from over, but one thing is clear: the Igala Kingdom has found in him a rare gem, a man whose impact is deep, whose heart is genuine and whose vision for his people is as expansive as it is inspiring.

In a profound display of compassion, solidarity, and responsive leadership, the member representing Bassa/Dekina Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Paul Gowon Haruna, has visited communities in Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State recently affected by flooding. During the visit, Hon. Haruna launched the second phase of his Salary and Emoluments Donation Initiative, beginning with Mozum and Ozugbe Wards. He disbursed a total of ₦4 million to support flood victims and those affected by communal crises. Each ward received ₦1.5 million, representing his September and October 2025 salary donations, with an additional ₦500,000 per ward provided in recognition of the severe impact of the disaster. Explaining the intervention, the lawmaker noted that the extra support to Mozum and Ozugbe was necessary given the large-scale displacement of many constituents to Abaji, Toto in Nassarawa, Lokoja, and other neighboring communities. Rt. Hon. Haruna emphasized that his new empowerment strategy is designed to cushion the effects of natural disasters by focusing on direct support for vulnerable families. This includes the payment of children’s school fees, settlement of hospital bills, and provision for urgent household needs. Unveiling the structure of the initiative, he announced that Each of the 12 wards in Dekina LGA will receive ₦2 million monthly. Each of the 10 wards in Bassa LGA will receive ₦1.5 million monthly. These allocations, he stressed, are drawn entirely from his personal salary and emoluments. “The second phase will focus more on direct welfare support to individuals and families, ensuring immediate impact and building stronger community resilience in times of need. I have also set up a monitoring team to ensure transparency and proper utilization of the funds,” Hon. Haruna stated. He further outlined the key objectives of the second phase: Youth empowerment through school fee interventions for less-privileged students. Healthcare Support through settlement of medical bills for vulnerable constituents. Disaster Relief for victims of both natural and man-made crises. This marks a strategic shift from the first phase of his emolument donations, which was largely administered through ward stakeholders, to a more people-centered approach with direct community impact. He concluded by stating that the next set of wards to benefit from the initiative will be announced prior to the next round of disbursements, after the concrete arragement on what to do with the money within the ward by the team. Dear People of Bassa/Dekina, Today, as I mark the occasion of my birth, I am reminded that birthdays are not just times of celebration but also moments of sober reflection, self-examination, and renewed commitment. Every responsible leader must take stock, reassess, and chart the way forward for growth and development. It is in this spirit that I write to you, my beloved people, to share reflections on our journey so far and to humbly seek your continued support as we navigate the challenges and opportunities of public service. I am deeply aware of your expectations. You long for progress, and you deserve it. As your representative, I bear the responsibility of carrying your concerns, your hopes, and your grievances. It is my duty to confront the obstacles that delay the development we all seek and to push relentlessly for solutions that will uplift our constituency. Service to humanity has always been at the core of my life’s mission. Long before I was elected to the House of Representatives, I committed myself to the well-being of our people. Now, with the mandate you have entrusted to me, I am even more determined to do greater things. I want to clarify that the federal government has not yet commenced implementation of the 2025 Appropriation Budget. Therefore, the projects I submitted on behalf of Dekina/Bassa for this new budget cycle are yet to take off. What you see ongoing in our constituency are projects captured in the 2024 budget cycle—just one year out of the four years of my tenure. It is also important to note that as a legislator, I do not directly receive funds or allocations for constituency projects. My role is to identify and submit priority projects for government attention. The federal government determines which ones to approve, selects the contractors, and designates the supervising agencies. While we await the full implementation of the 2025 budget, I remain steadfast in my commitment to ensuring that Bassa/Dekina continues to benefit from impactful projects. I will keep pressing forward, attracting opportunities, and representing you with sincerity, dedication, and courage. Finally, I appeal to all my constituents and the great people of the Igala kingdom: let us maintain civility and maturity as we hold leaders accountable. Let us shun the use of vulgar words and instead adopt persuasive, constructive dialogue that will guide our representatives towards better service delivery. Together, we will build the Bassa/Dekina of our dreams. God bless Bassa/Dekina. God bless Kogi State. God bless Nigeria. HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY, NIGERIA. Rt. Hon. Gowon Paul Haruna.
