The Idris HK Foundation has dismissed circulating social media rumors that Alh. Idris Hussain Kashim plans to withdraw from the 2027 Kogi East Senatorial election or endorse another candidate.

In a statement released today, the Foundation said the reports are false and misleading. Alh. Idris Hussain Kashim remains committed to contesting the Kogi East Senatorial Seat in the 2027 election and is focused on serving the people.

“This is entirely false and misleading. Alh. Idris Hussain Kashim remains committed to contesting the Kogi East Senatorial Seat in the 2027 election, and he is focused on serving the people. It is a God-given mandate championed by the masses,” the statement read.

The Foundation attributed the rumors to “a group of mischief makers” that are “already in jittery as a result of his rising profile.” Public calls were made to disregard the baseless rumors, which the Foundation described as attempts to undermine his candidacy.

Ajogwu Jerry Ochada, spokesperson for the Idris HK Foundation, reiterated the message, emphasizing that Kashim’s campaign is driven by a mandate from the people and that he will continue to work tirelessly to address constituents’ needs.

Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, is the Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja. He hails from Angwa-Ogebe in Ankpa Local Government Area, Kogi State.

He obtained a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. in Political Science from Bayero University, Kano, and the University of Ilorin, respectively. He obtained a PhD in Political Economy and Development Studies from Nasarawa State University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from the University of Ilorin.

He began his public service career as an Administrative Assistant at the University of Ilorin in 2003, rose through the ranks, and served as Acting College Secretary of the College of Health Sciences and later as Faculty Officer of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences at different times.

He transferred his services to Kogi State University (now Prince Abubakar University), Anyigba, as an Assistant Lecturer in 2009. He was promoted Lecturer II (2012), Lecturer I (2015), Senior Lecturer (2018), and Associate Professor (2021).

He was appointed Professor of Political Science by the Governing Council of the Federal University Lokoja, in 2024.

At the Department of Political Science of the Prince Abubakar Audu University, Professor Usman served as the Departmental Secretary, Project Coordinator, Assistant Examination Officer, substantive Examination Officer, Student Adviser at various levels, and Postgraduate Coordinator. He also served as Member, Secretary, and Chairman of various Committees under successive administrations in the Department. He served as Head of the Department for four years, during which he initiated reforms that boosted the Post Graduate programme and retained the Department's Full Accreditation status, achieving an unprecedented 96.4% success rate.

At the Faculty level, he was at various times, Member, Secretary and Chairman of Faculty of Social Science Examination Misconduct Committee, and Member of the Faculty Management Committee. He was also Chairman, Deanship Election Committee of the Faculty for two consecutive terms.

At the wider University level, he was at various times, Member, Secretary and Chairman of E-examination Committee, Deputy Coordinator, Coordinator and Acting Director, General Studies Unit/Directorate, Dean of Student Affairs, Director of Consultancy Services Member of Senate, and Member of Governing Council Representing the Congregation. He also served as Member, Secretary and Chairman of numerous standing and ad hoc Committees of the University.

Usman was appointed by Kogi State Government as Acting Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic on 7th April 2020, confirmed as substantive Rector on 12th February 2021 and re-appointed Rector for second term on 12th February, 2025.
As Rector, he brought dynamism and proactive governance model anchored on digital governance, collaboration, linkage and partnership under a 3-R mantra of “Repair, Reform and Restore”.

It is therefore not surprising that his Midas touch transformed the natural and built environment of the Polytechnic, once described as “a glorified secondary school”, into the best in contemporary higher education standards in Nigeria and beyond over the last five years.

While his impact spanned physical facilities turnaround across all its facets and the best security architecture, the most profound of his achievements are anchored in the delivery of academic excellence.

They are reflected in full accreditation of programmes, the introduction of new programmes, the establishment of quality assurance and research and innovation directorates, the digitisation of result processing, and collaboration with relevant higher institutions and government agencies, among others.

In short, Professor Usman has initiated and implemented far-reaching reforms and reorganisation, which have curbed insecurity, improved quality assurance, restored discipline, and improved the welfare of staff and students in the Polytechnic.

In the area of collaboration, partnership and linkages, he has distinguished himself by expanding the frontiers of academic excellence and service delivery. Under his stewardship, the Polytechnic has fostered robust partnerships with higher institutions and agencies of government, industry players, professional bodies, and development agencies, thereby opening new opportunities for staff development, student exchange, curriculum enrichment, research funding and technological advancement.

He reactivated the Memorandum of Understanding with the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), leading to the successful establishment of the Mechatronic Engineering Technology programme in the Polytechnic.

He also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Federal University Lokoja, for running of degree programmes and staff and students exchange for academic advancement.

His commitment to synergy has not only enhanced institutional visibility but also deepened community engagement, promoted innovation, and positioned the Polytechnic as a credible partner in driving sustainable development.

Senator Echocho concluded with prayers for the repose of late Kross’ soul and for God’s comfort upon his family, the Amaka community, and all who mourn him.

And in a practical demonstration of faith and support for the work of God, he announced a donation of ₦2 million to support the ongoing church building project in Amaka, a gesture that was warmly received by the community.

Businessman and philanthropist Idris HK on Thursday toured multiple communities in the Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, commissioning completed projects and launching new ones under the Idris HK Foundation. The day-long outreach attracted large crowds and drew blessings from traditional rulers.

The visit began at Ogbabo Junction, where residents lined the roadside to welcome his convoy. From there, the team proceeded to Biraidu, where traditional rulers gathered at Emewe Opada to receive him. HRM Acheneje Abdullahi, the Onu Ojomi, and HRM Matthew Daikwo, the Onu Igbologwu—representing the Onu of Abocho—presented kola nuts and formally adopted Idris as a son of the community. All traditional rulers from the Biraidu district were in attendance.

At Emewe Opada, Chief Imam Bashiru Amodu led prayers as Idris commissioned a newly completed erosion-control project that restored access to the state capital after six months of total disconnection caused by a massive gully. Community leaders confirmed that Idris personally funded the intervention upon hearing of their hardship.

The community also celebrated the foundation’s payment of school fees for 315 students of Ofoji Community Secondary School. The principal, Yahaya Ocheni, joined the Community Development Chairman, Akpa Lawrence Atuluku, students, and the President of the Biraidu Students’ Association at Prince Audu Abubakar University (PAAU), Muhammad Egbojo, to present an award of honor to Idris.

“This life-changing humanitarian gesture has not only relieved parents and students of financial burden but has also strengthened students’ passion for education,” the principal said while expressing the school’s gratitude.

Abocho youth leader, Siaka Usman, also delivered a message of appreciation. Idris responded by pledging to clear any remaining outstanding fees and promised to provide a borehole for the area on or before 15 January 2026.

The entourage later visited the palace of HRM Shaibu Abu Okolo, the Ogohi Onu Anyigba, where Idris apologized for installing a transformer in Obeya Lile without prior notice. He explained that the intervention was triggered by a Facebook post highlighting the community’s prolonged lack of electricity. The Ogohi accepted the gesture with gratitude, describing the transformer as a personal gift to his kingdom and declaring that the entire Igala area remains indebted to Idris.

The day continued with the flag-off of electricity extension works at Ate Uge, where engineers are scheduled to be mobilized by 15 December. The tour concluded at Etutekpe, where a large crowd welcomed him. There, Idris pledged to champion improved mobile network access and paid school fees for local students, promising to clear any outstanding balances.

Speaking to journalists after the final event, Idris Kashim Hussein emphasized that his outreach is driven purely by humanitarian motives, with no political agenda.

“As of today, I am not seeking any political office,” he said. “I am only a businessman who loves his people. But if tomorrow the communities ask me to contest so I can serve them better, I will not decline—because political office would provide the resources and authority needed for capital projects that private efforts alone cannot sustain.”

He thanked Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and the Executive Chairman of Dekina Local Government, John Urah, for their leadership and developmental strides and assured that his foundation would continue to complement government efforts to improve community welfare.

I am compelled by my conscience to write this article because sincere acts of benevolence is like a lamp on a hilltop and a salt to the earth that ought to be announced or projected. “I don’t have any connection whatsoever with the attack on the ADC party office in Dekina. The allegation is unfounded and baseless, and I implore the general public to disregard it,” she stated.
