PoliticsIdah Federal Constituency: Time For Onyedega District To Speak For Ibaji by Petr2020(op): 8:54pm On Jun 08, 2025
By Ojoka Reuben, from Onyedega

Politics, at its noblest, is the pursuit of the common good. And democracy, its highest form, is built on the premise that every voice matters, that power must be shared, and that no community should dominate another in perpetuity. These ideals are more than rhetorical flourishes — they are moral and philosophical imperatives that define just societies and authentic leadership.

In Ibaji Local Government Area of Kogi State, these principles have yet to be fully realized. The political story of Ibaji — particularly in its representation at the House of Representatives for the Idah Federal Constituency — reveals a pattern of enduring concentration of power in a single axis: the Unale District. While their contributions to our collective history are recognized, the continued exclusion of other zones, particularly Oñyedega District, undermines the spirit of fairness and political balance upon which democratic societies thrive.

The emergence of Hon. Frank Nneke, the first-ever representative of Idah Federal Constituency, and other prominent political actors from Unale, demonstrates that district's firm hold on the structures of federal representation. Yet, over two decades later, Oñyedega District — with its rich cultural heritage, vast human capital, and political potential — has never produced a representative for Ibaji at the National Assembly. This is no longer merely a matter of oversight; it has become a political injustice.

From the lens of democratic theory, such persistent exclusion negates the principle of representational justice. As political philosopher John Stuart Mill argued, representation must reflect the diversity of the polity — not just in name but in active participation. When a district like Oñyedega, with a large population and strategic relevance, is kept out of the equation, democracy falters. The system becomes skewed, and the people lose trust in its integrity.

What is even more glaring is that Oñyedega is not lacking in capable, credible, and qualified individuals. On the contrary, the district has produced some of the finest minds in academia, public service, administration, and enterprise. What has been denied is not leadership but the political space to emerge. The machinery of influence and nomination continues to be controlled by entrenched interests who see representation as an inheritance rather than a rotating privilege of service.

One must also consider the philosophy of inclusion. In Plato’s vision of the just society, justice means that each part of the society performs its rightful role and is given equal opportunity to contribute to the well-being of the whole. If Ibaji must thrive as a united front within the Idah Federal Constituency, then Oñyedega must be seen — and empowered — as an equal stakeholder, not a subordinate observer.

It is morally untenable and politically counterproductive to continue to sideline a district that serves as a vital socio-economic and geographic corridor in Ibaji. Oñyedega is not on the periphery; it is at the heart of Ibaji’s identity, history, and aspirations. Any claim to represent the whole of Ibaji at the federal level without the voice of Oñyedega is incomplete and unjust.

This is not a call for sympathy; it is a call for political realignment and justice. The time has come for political actors, stakeholders, and party leaders within and beyond Ibaji to consciously and deliberately support a credible candidate from Oñyedega District for the House of Representatives. This is how unity is built — through intentional acts of fairness and rotation, not endless cycles of exclusion.

To continue to recycle representatives from the same political zone is to foster resentment and stagnation. But to open up the space for Oñyedega is to energize the political base, inspire hope among the youth, and reinforce the belief that democracy can work for all — not just for some.

In conclusion, equity must be practiced, not preached. The health of a political system is measured by how well it listens to its least-heard voices. Oñyedega has waited long enough. Ibaji will be stronger, more united, and more respected when Oñyedega is given the opportunity to speak at the national level.

Let Onyedega lead. Let equity prevail. The time is now.

PoliticsWe Are No Longer Comfortable With Your Silence— Hon. Joseph Egene Tells INEC by Petr2020(op): 5:12pm On May 08, 2025
In a timely and pointed reaction, Hon. Joseph Egene, House of Assembly aspirant under the People's Democratic Party (PDP), has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to urgently address the delay in conducting the bye-election for Okura Constituency in Kogi State.

Hon. Egene noted that the 90-day electoral guideline for organizing the bye-election has since expired, yet the commission has remained silent. He emphasized that this inaction has left residents of the Okura Constituency in a state of uncertainty and political limbo.

The bye-election became necessary following the death of the constituency’s representative in the Kogi State House of Assembly about five months ago. The prolonged delay, according to Egene, has denied the people of Okura proper representation and a voice in the affairs of the state.

“We are no longer comfortable with INEC’s silence,” Hon. Egene stated, urging the electoral body to act swiftly and fulfill its constitutional obligation by setting a date for the election.

He called on stakeholders, civil society, and the general public to join in demanding immediate action to ensure the constituency is no longer left without representation.

PoliticsEaster: Hon. Joseph Egene Felicitates With Christians In Okura Constituency by Petr2020(op): 5:28pm On Apr 20, 2025
As Christians across the world commemorate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Okura Constituency, Hon. Joseph Egene Okiti, has extended heartfelt Easter greetings to the Christian faithful in the constituency and beyond.

In a statement made available to the press, Hon. Egene described Easter as a season of reflection, sacrifice, renewal, and unwavering hope—a time when Christians are reminded of the selfless love of Jesus Christ and the power of His resurrection.

He noted that the resurrection of Christ is not just a religious milestone but also a powerful symbol of victory over despair, darkness, and death. According to him, Easter offers a renewed opportunity for everyone to re-examine their commitment to the values that bind humanity—love, forgiveness, sacrifice, and unity.

"The story of Easter is a story of sacrifice and triumph. It reminds us that even in our darkest moments, light will prevail. As a people, we must hold on to that message of hope and extend it to one another through our actions and words," Hon. Egene stated.

He further urged Christians in the Okura Constituency to emulate the teachings and lifestyle of Jesus Christ, who throughout His life preached compassion, humility, and service to humanity. According to Hon. Egene, these teachings are as relevant today as they were over two thousand years ago, especially in a time when the world—and indeed Okura Constituency—grapples with issues of disunity, intolerance, and socio-political unrest.

"Let us continue to love one another. Let us prioritize the need to protect and defend our common goal. There is nothing more valuable than the bond we share as a people. We may come from different backgrounds, hold different beliefs, or support different political ideologies, but at the end of the day, we are one people with a shared destiny," he said.

Hon. Egene also seized the opportunity to call on the people of Okura Constituency to maintain peaceful coexistence, especially as the political climate in the country becomes increasingly heated ahead of future elections. He emphasized that development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace, mutual respect, and collaboration.

He noted that as a candidate vying to represent the constituency, his vision is deeply rooted in collective progress, community unity, and inclusive governance. He promised that if given the mandate, he would work tirelessly to ensure that every voice is heard, every community is reached, and every citizen has a fair share in the dividends of democracy.

"The resurrection story teaches us that after every pain, there is healing; after every struggle, there is victory. I want the people of Okura Constituency to hold on to that hope and carry it into every facet of our daily lives—from how we relate with our neighbors to how we participate in governance," he added.

As Easter is also a season of giving and compassion, Hon. Egene encouraged those who are privileged to remember the less fortunate in their celebrations. He urged leaders at all levels to extend hands of support to the vulnerable and to use their positions to uplift lives rather than divide communities.

Concluding his message, Hon. Joseph Egene wished all Christians a joyous and spiritually fulfilling Easter celebration, praying that the season brings renewed strength, peace, and prosperity to Okura Constituency and to Nigeria as a whole.

These qualities have earned him tremendous success in his business strides and have, over time, expressed readiness to replicate such feats for the greater good of inhabitants of the Okura constituency.

1. A Skilled Negotiator for the People

One of the biggest challenges in Okura is the need for strong representation—someone who can negotiate better deals, attract investments, and ensure that the people get their fair share of government projects and resources. Joseph Egene (Okiti) has a proven track record of securing beneficial agreements in the business world, and he will bring that expertise to the political arena, ensuring that Okura is never left behind in development plans.

2. Business-Oriented Leadership for Economic Growth

With his background in business, Joseph Egene understands job creation, investment, and economic empowerment. He will advocate for business-friendly policies that support local entrepreneurs and work to attract investors to Okura, boosting trade and industry and promoting skills acquisition and youth empowerment programs to reduce unemployment.

3. Effective Project Implementation

Many politicians make promises but fail to deliver. Joseph Egene, however, has a track record of successfully implementing projects—both in business and community development. As a leader, he will ensure roads, schools, healthcare facilities, and other infrastructure projects are completed on time and to a high standard and fight for Okura’s fair share of government-funded projects, bringing in private sector partnerships to supplement government efforts.

4. A Strong Alternative to Opponents

Unlike his opponents, Joseph Egene combines vision with action. While others may focus only on politics, he brings a results-driven mindset that prioritizes real development, economic progress, and effective governance.

A vote for Joseph Egene Okiti is a vote for progress.

If Okura Constituency wants a leader who can negotiate better deals, drive economic growth, and ensure successful project implementation, then Joseph Egene is the right choice.
