I studied (2 post-graduate degrees) and lived there many years ago and had a house there at some point. It's a quintessential North East town with some parts socioeconomically deprived whist others are relatively middle-class. The university is great, albeit lowly ranked. I still have fond memories of that town having worked various unskilled and skilled roles there.
