RESCUE THESE TROJAN J185!!!

These batteries have been through thick and thin.

Recently, the user called and said batteries get hot when charging.
Take a closer look at the cells, you will see Lead fragments short-circuiting the plates, and that is why its getting hot.

The electrolyte also gets dried too fast these days.

Inverter: 5kW 48V MustPower set to about 25-30A Charging current (measured with FLUKE clamp meter). The batteries are 8 in number, 4 in series, 2 in parallel.

1. Are there battery plates (the thick ones) in market for sale (remember old battery chargers who rebuild vehicle batteries by replacing old plates with new).

2. Can we open up these batteries, change the cell, seal it back, put fresh and right acid-distilled-water mix, and continue the battery life?

The batteries are just 2 years old.

Thank you in anticipation of a good solution from the house.

B. In addition, anybody having the contact of Wind Generator dealer could drop a note for me.

WE HAVE HAD TWO CLIENTS FROM THIS FORUM WHO HAVE INSTALLED OUR GENNEX 5KVA 8V (3000W)MPPT INVERTER, ALSO NOTE THAT OUR INVERTERS ARE THE AXPERT BRAND THAT ARE FAVORITES IN AUSTRALIA AND SOUTH AFRICA
I am one of the clients.
Just rounded up the installation yesterday.
I had to taper down the AC charging current from 60A to 20A due to the current small battery bank (client would change battery bank in few months time). Adding solar is easy with up to 150V max input.

Thank you.

Science/TechnologyRe: Beware!!! 5 Reasons You May Regret Spending On Solar Power!!! by Pharyn(m):
ceaser:
There is a similar set up I have mostly powering the house.

Hooked up all the lighting bulb points to 12 volts DC direct source (jettisoned all the 220VAC bulb connections).

I modded the DSTV decoder and startimes to run on 12 volt DC direct - backup is 10 hours on a single sunny day charge after like 6.5 hours of sunlight. It's only the TV that needs to be on 220VAC.

The security lights are class 2 automation that come on automatically at night. The bathroom and walkway lights are automated by PIR sensors that I got 'em routed thru, so that reduces the headache of having to monitor people leaving a hard-harvested energy wasted.

Have standalone solar powered standing fans in each room (but nna meeen, that your 16 hours running time claim get as e be o) that run as long as the sun shines and gives between 6-10 hours battery backup depending on the fan speed.

Few wall sockets got changed to USB type that connects directly to 5 volt USB output to work some USB powered devices: Phones, tabs, fruit mixer, desk lamps.

The remaining wall sockets still maintain their 220VAC source (Generator, PHCN and inverter installed by engineers like geesampower) to power devices that still rely solely on 220VAC.

I still don't like the restriction I experience with using the central inverter (it's a small unit for only the sitting room TV). So future plans include:

Decentralize the inverter sources just as I did to the light (LED) bulbs. Each bedroom in the house to have a small standalone inverter unit to power the gadgets therein. Ditto the two sitting rooms.

I have seen some DC pressing iron and kettle listed on Konga et al. I plan to give the products a try. Initial plan was to get a solar water heater (an overhead tank cum cooler that uses sun's UV rays to heat its content). Those ones go for around 400k on Konga.

Change the pump to those solar powered ones. Of course that costs a fortune.

Solar refrigerator - also cost a fortune.

I don't know what geesampower has to say about that decentralization of a central inverter source idea. Do you think it workable?

The link shows how I did some of the moddings for 12volt DC direct.

https://www.nairaland.com/2777363/aluminium-stone-coated-tiles-things/3#45057032

NB: It's not primarily a thread for solar stuff, but the link will take you straight to the post on the moddings.

The picture shows one of the modded 220VAC LED light to run 12volt DC.

Yes. Equalised immediately.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Pharyn(m): 7:54pm On Feb 27, 2016
The distilled water used to service it affected the discharge cycle.

It's still working fine, but Performance dropped immediately after topping.

House,
Can we use the battery electrolyte sold at conventional battery shops to replace electrolyte in our flooded batteries?

If not, where can one get a suitable replacement for the electrolyte?

Thanks.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Pharyn(m):
House,

What could be done to help this set of 4 Trojan J185?
Soon after topping up with distilled water and proper equalisation, the performance dropped by almost half.
The remaining of the distilled water later tasted acidic to the tongue, and looks cloudy.

Men, what can be done? Can we get the right sulphuric acid mixture, pour out the one inside and refill back? Would it revive the performance?

Thanks.

What a Great Privilege!

Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Pharyn(m): 3:25pm On Dec 26, 2015
The Inverter and Disconnect Box (175A) are on the wall while the Central Stab (met on site, along with previous wiring) is sitting on the floor.
The 8 Batteries ( US L16E XC2 6V) are on the other side of the wall outside, sitting on a metal rack, laid with plywood.
A flexible weatherproof cover would be fabricated to shield the batteries from environment, yet allow hydrogen breathing.

The Client wants the remote to be with the Inverter and the Remote cable is so long to make the board look cluttered. I would still repack it well.

50mm cables were used all throughout (Inverter-Fuse-Battery connection) including battery interconnecting cables.
Remains DC Grounding.

Special thanks to the House, especially the people that are always ready to answer Qs (richmon74, Abunafiu, solardepotng.com c0ogumo). Thanks for your support.

Just installed
- Magnum Inverter MS4348PE;
- 8 units of Flooded L16E Batteries (USB) from www.solardepotng.com

The 55A Charging Current (@48V) is complete and that brought the batteries to float successfully within 2 hours.

Would soon post pictures.

If money is not the challenge, go for Premium Inverters. Go the Magnum Way!

FLEXMAX 80 For Sale!

Brand New but 1 week installed.

HISTORY
Met these on site:
- 5kW 48V Sukam Inverter (with 15A Charging Current).
- 8 units of AGM 12V 150Ah configured for 300Ah at 48V.
-2 units of PWM CC (see attached images).
- Panels amounting to 1.6kW. 100W each.
* All installed December 2014.

We advised client to add more panels (at least 1.5kW) and change Charge Controller to MPPT. He said, because of capital investment, for now, he will only change CC to maximise what we have on ground.

After replacing the PWM CCs with this FlexMax 80, the yield was not appreciable.

Client does not want to add panels because of limited funds.

ACTION PLAN:
We advised client to sell off all the solar panels and CC to offset cost of upgrading from Sukam Indian Inverter to Magnum/PRAG-like Inverter with 40-50A charging current, then change batteries to the new flooded USB (from c0ogumo).

That is why we put this CC up for grabs.

Interested? Call 090 999 88 770.

Hello House.

Has anyone used this timer before?

How do you connect the wiring?

Clue:
It has 5 terminals:
1
2
3 & 4 (NC - normally closed)
5 (NO - normally open).

Your help and support would be appreciated.

I would soon post the images and results of the Inverter (changed) that woke up those dying Trojan J185. Thanks for all your comments and contributions.

How do you revive a dying Trojan J185?

Background:
This is the design:

5kVA Indian Inverter (with 20A charging Charging Current @48V).
8 units of Trojan 12V 205Ah (J185). 4 in series. 2 paralleled with the Inverter follow-come cables.
Location: Osun State.
Installation date: December 2014.

Current status: battery low after 45 minutes.

House, how can these precious batteries be rescued? The installation was done for my Pastor's house.
@kiekie,
@coogumo,
@abunafiu,
@Imo Nkweini,
@House,

Appreciate your responses and contributions to this question. God bless you all.

I had changed all the cables a month ago, to a new set of 50mm cables, all same size, shorter, about 25cm long. (See attached picture).

I had considered replacing the Inverter with another 3- or 4-stage kind of Inverter with 50A-60A charging current, but what would be done to the Indian Inverter?

So, an option that can be conveniently presented to my Pastor is that of adding an external charger (4-stage preferably).

What brand of this charger is readily available and functional?

Thank you.
