Today’s free tip is the Eredivisie
game between heavyweights
Ajax and plucky RKC Waalwijk.
Essentially, both of these sides
are very attacking sides. RKC play
better football than most people
suppose, especially against big
sides that will attack them. I was
disappointed with how easily
RKC were dealt with by Heracles
and Roda JC respectively in their
home games this season but RKC
excelled against PSV at home and
ADO Den Haag away – when they
were expected to make a mess
of things, basically. Don’t
underestimate RKC; they’re a
more dangerous side than
they’re given credit for.
However, they’re also suspect at
the back and a rampant Ajax side
should really be showing them
how it’s done today. Ajax already
average scoring nearly four goals
per game after just four
Eredivisie games and I doubt that
record will change much after
today’s game. There’s so much
attacking talent and spirit in de
Boer’s team that it’s hard not to
enjoy watching this flambuoyant
Ajax side playing right now.
They’ve got an interesting task
ahead of them today though –
RKC will not lie down here and
they won’t sit eleven men behind
the ball either. This gives Ajax
plenty of scope for attacking but
it will hurt them defensively.
You have to bear in mind that the
two starlets of the RKC side this
season are both former Ajax
academy boys in Sneijder and
Jozefzoon, both of which moved
to RKC from Ajax pre-season.
They’ve both looked very
impressive too, which is no
surprise, given the continual flow
of talent there. They’ll be keen to
prove a point today, though, as
will the former youngsters of PSV
Eindhoven and Feyenoord
Rotterdam respectively for
obvious reasons. RKC’s
motivation and tenacity is
legendary and I attribute that to
them signing hard-working
players from proven academies
that want to re-establish
themselves. All in all, RKC are a
good football side and should
cause Ajax a few problems at the
back today.
Still, I have to expect a fairly
convincing Ajax win if they take
their chances as they should be
too good for RKC at this stage of
the season. Ajax have a lot of
very talented players and RKC
could be swept away if they’re
not careful. Heracles did to RKC in
Waalwijk what Ajax will do in
Amsterdam and quite how RKC
didn’t lose against Heracles I’m
not quite sure. Whatever the
outcome, though, I feel that we’ll
see plenty of goals today
between two very entertaining
sides so my call is over 3.5 goals
