I had an issue yesterday with my inverter (2.5kva) with 4 batteries (Sukam), the inverter refused to come on after I powered down my generator. I don't use my generator to charge the inverter batteries because of the size,its a 2.2kva generator.

I tried to turn it on several times, initially it came on sounded the buzzer then went off, several other attempts to power it back up proved abortive. My inverter and the batteries are just 4 months old.

Please has any one experienced this before and what was the likely cause?

6000w load is unrealistic.....for a home........b4 we start wasting time giving you a breakdown of cost/parts.....pls confirm you have upto 3m naira for this project?..............if not i recommend you read up on inverters and load sizing and batteries............then we can talk....by talking of loading an inverter with 6000w, am almost certain you dont hv much idea of how inverters work...so any advice we give here would be wasted/not understood

Power requirement= 43200WH
At 97% efficiency/losses = 44536.08WH
Using 24DC system, AH required= 44536.08WH/24 = 1855.67AH

At 50% DOD = 3711.34AH
At 2days autonomy = 7422.68AH

Battery selection
Using 200AH batteries = 7422.68/200 = 37.11
approx 38pcs .
For 24 system (2 batteries in series) = 76pcs

Solar sizing
Power requirement = 43200WH
Assuming 5hrs of sunlight 43200WH/5 = 8640W
Using SW255w panels= 8640/255 = 33.8 = 34PCs

Solar arrangement
Strings = 2 x 24
Parallel = 17 of the strings.

Charge controller
Knowing that each panel is about 8.5A x 17 in parallel gives 137A. I want to use 2 nos of Outback FM80.


Pls kindly review my calculations and correct me before I do something crazy.
