PoliticsRe: If You Want A Debate, Become A Presidential Candidate First - Obi Replies Umahi by philiancoop(m): 10:18pm On Jul 11
fergie001:
Peter Obi's interview with Chude Jideonwo

Previous Thread:
Umahi Challenges Peter Obi For Debate Over Offensive Road Picture
He said
"...But I thank him, he is now repairing the road, the debate is closed. There is no other thing to debate."

Then he continued

"If he now wants to invite me as a Presidential Candidiate for a debate, he has to go and pick a form and become a Presidential Candidiate."

So profound
So refreshing
So Apt
So wise a take.

But notice that the law and its consequences didn't stop the act.
Notice that the laws in the US, Norway, the UK, etc. are much lighter, but they have fewer cases of these.

Meaning that corruption is a character trait, and only the system stops people from doing so.
It is just like saying: stop smoking, and think that telling them the consequence will stop them from doing so. But if you make ciggarettes as expensive as a car, either they smoke something else, or they stop smoking.

The point is: the system is stronger than the consequences.
In Nigeria, no system, no consequences. Give us one at least

But not in Lagos

Any Nigerian can be anything anywhere in the world outside Nigeria.

But they can't be hold any position out side their state inside Nigeria.

A yourba man can't be a governor in kastina. An hausa man can't be governor in Delta.

Our people are devolving.

It was getting better before 2015 though.

Because, unfortunately, that same world tells men they got to be the provider, and women that they have to rely on a man to surivive. At the end it makes for awful relationships.

Plus, no woman wants to see her children go hungry. That's why they look for 'rich' men. It's shitty, its self centered, but there we are. As if today's broke man cannot be tomorrow's rich guy.
It's not shitty, it's biology and logic.

The problem comes when a man who can give two or more women a comfortable life is told to only have one.

dalass:
The news reporters. are mischievous, they should do the report in dollars ...

So for example, use the dollar to naira ratio of 150naira/1$ Buhari era to a Tinubu era and you will see that let's $1M x 150= 150 million Naira compared to let's say 1500/1$ , nowadays will make it 1500x 1M which is 1.5 billion.

Clearly in naira, the figure is much bigger in Tinubus time than Buhari era but the Dollar borrowed is lower now,
Okay. In the same way, Buhari used money to stabilize the naira. Tinubu refused to use money to stabilize the naira. Yet, he's still borrowing. Shouldn't he be not borrowing now that he's not supporting naira, not paying subsidy, has increased duties, has increased tax collection. And hasn't shown better live results on the lives of the people

It was never about the progress of the nation but about his own selfish interest.
He doesn't understand how politics work

Young man, I am a die-hard Tinubu supporter and I don't expect a dime from the government, I support him because I see the great work he is doing.
Something you obviously don't have the capacity to comprehend.
This young man call Chief Priest lost his election to a fellow Igbo man and he still said he lost because he was Igbo. Was the winner a Nupe or a Jukun man? Was the the winner not his fellow Igbo man?

You lack the capacity to understand, it's an IQ problem, not a Tinubu problem

No sir, actually you just need to be intelligent to see, something that is strange to you

You are right, I don't live (permanently) in Nigeria, but I am in Nigeria every 3 months to spend 1 month. Funny thing is I live in the UK but I travel around Nigeria more than Nigerians who live in Nigeria.
I am currently in the country and I have traveled to and through not less than 15states. Most of my investment is here in Nigeria. So while fuuls gather money and sell properties to leave the country, some of us are actually seeing clear enough to invest in the country.

People cry about hunger, but you don't think that agriculture should make you money. Who will plant the crops for you to eat?
Government does not own farms, the government only assist farmers. Does wisdom not tell you that farming in the midst of hunger will take you out of poverty?

Many people have made millions of dollars from the war in the middle east while people like you cry about petrol prices, I am one of those, and I simply did that by buying more crude and gold the moment the first misile dropped.

Even if I live in Nigeria, I will still be successful and you will still be hungry.
My location has nothing to do with it, many Nigerians are stranded in UK, they can't even afford a flight ticket back home, just begging and disturbing everyone.
You had N50million and your brain couldn't think of any business to do, you left Nigeria without a sellable skill and now hungry and jobless

PoliticsRe: Loopholes In The New Electoral Law by philiancoop(m): 8:55am On Apr 26
You needed chatgpt to reply this for you with garbage

Pojomojo:
Elections are one of the few moments where ordinary people expect their voice to clearly matter, so anything that looks like a loophole can feel like a direct threat to that trust. But some of the conclusions in your argument lean heavily on worst-case assumptions rather than what the law necessarily enables in practice.

Take the wording issue around electronic transmission. Yes, legal language matters—“shall” vs “may” can change how rigid a provision is. But courts don’t interpret sections in isolation; they read the whole statute together with the intent of the law. If the broader framework makes electronic transmission the standard method, it’s not as simple as officials casually opting out without scrutiny. “Technical glitches” would still need to be justified, documented, and could become grounds for challenges—not a free pass for manipulation.

On biometrics replacing or reducing reliance on PVCs: that’s not automatically voter suppression. In theory, it’s meant to solve real problems Nigeria has faced—stolen cards, multiple voting, and identity fraud. The concern you raised about officials abusing discretion is valid, but that risk exists with or without cards. The real issue isn’t the absence of PVCs; it’s whether there are strong audit trails, transparent logs, and independent oversight of systems like BVAS. Those are the safeguards that determine whether the tech empowers voters or officials.

The litigation deadline is probably the most complicated part. Long election cases have historically dragged on for years, sometimes making court victories feel meaningless after full terms have been served. A time limit tries to fix that. But you’re right that complex fraud cases take time. The question is whether the courts are being strengthened to handle cases faster—not just cut off by a clock. If the capacity isn’t there, then the deadline becomes a problem. If it is, then it could actually improve accountability.

As for INEC appointments, that’s been a long-standing debate even before this Act. The concern about independence is legitimate. But again, the outcome depends less on who appoints and more on how insulated the commission is once appointed—tenure security, transparency, and public scrutiny all matter. Reforming that process would likely require broader constitutional changes, not just tweaks in an electoral act.

So there are real risks in what you’ve described—but calling it a fully engineered “electoral heist” might be jumping ahead of the evidence. A lot depends on implementation, institutional strength, and how actively civil society, courts, and voters hold the system accountable.

FOREX.... Naira to Dollar rate is what makes it so. Naira is about 10 times cheaper now than buhari era...
So buhari supported naira with funds and tinubu removed the naira support funds and still borrowed more than buhari who spent on naira supporthuh?

oyebanji:
This is being clever by half. What is the dollar value of the loans for the 2 periods?
To put this in context, under Buhari, Naira to USD was averagely N320 while under Tinubu its averagle N1400. At Buharis N75trn and Tinubu's N65trn, loans under Burai is $234bn while same under Tinubu is $46bn.
Who made the naira fall, by diverting funds to support it to other uses.

You are making buhari better actually.. buhari supported the naira with funds and still borrowed less.

100 dollars for 17 gallons.

That's 100 dollars for 65 litres

That's N150,000 for 65 litres

That's 2k naira per liter where people earn minimum of 3 million naira per month.

It's 1300 naira per liter where people earn 70k per month
