It was the year 1977, I had just graduated from Secondary School and my dream was to be my own boss and start a hairdressing/beauty salon. I was not really the academic type and I knew what I wanted. I wasn’t dull but I just didn’t want post-secondary education…I actually passed my ‘School Cert’ (like we called it back then). My mum enrolled me with a friend of hers to learn the skills required for this ‘dream’. My dad was not really in support because I was the only girl, the last child and all my older siblings/brothers were in various institutions of higher learning and he wanted me to at least get a National Diploma even if I wasn’t going to work with it. My mum stood by me and somehow got my dad on board…he wasn’t going to pay for the training at first, but he later did. About a year after I started with “Aunty Betty” (My mum’s friend that was training me), I met one of her nephews, Tunji. He was a student of the Yaba College of Technology in Lagos…they were out of school due to the ‘Ali Must Go’ riots and had come to see her aunt. I was the only one at the salon when he came in…I was wondering what a man was doing at beauty shop, he greeted me with a smile and that was it. I couldn’t get that smile out of my head. He was soft spoken and very intelligent, he had asked me some questions about school and when I told him my plans, he said it was a wise one because there was nothing as fulfilling as following one’s passion in life. Aunty Betty officially introduced us when she arrived at the salon….I must have made an impression on him as well because he kept coming to the salon everyday till it was time to go back to his school. He would hang around and crack jokes…he was really hilarious. At a point, Aunty Betty had to ask what we were up to…she would say jokingly that she was totally in support, if we planned to take our friendship to the next level, to which Tunji would smile and I would pretend not to understand what she was talking about. I wasn’t that experienced in relationship stuff…the only boy that ever claimed he was my boyfriend back in high school got a beating of his life when two of my brothers caught up with him (the benefits/woes of being an only girl with 4 big brothers). These were the same guys that would switch girls like they were disposable plates but their sister was off limits to all the boys in the neighborhood. Tunji left after the schools were reopened and I thought that was it…after all; he never said he wanted to date me, although he was always coming to the salon all through his stay. At first I had expected him to say something but when he left, without words, I assumed he was just a friendly guy that wanted to spend time with me and his aunt. The day he left for school, he sent me a letter through his aunt but because I did not want to read it in her presence I put it in my pocket, when I got home I put it under a pile of clothes in my wardrobe but completely forgot about it. There was a day I told Aunty Betty I wouldn’t be at the Salon because I had some errands to run for my mum. It must have been about 3 weeks after Tunji left…when I got home from where my mum sent me, he was in our house. He was in the sitting room with two of my brothers and they seemed to be having a wonderful time. They were talking and laughing…I was shocked to see him. He later told me he came from school to collect some money from his aunt and would be around for a couple of days…he checked at the Salon and was told I didn’t come, Aunty Betty gave him my home address and he wanted to surprise me. I was more of afraid than surprised because my dad was home and I didn’t know what his reaction would be after Tunji left. It was the first time any boy came to look for me…I was about 20 years old then and my dad still saw me as a kid… To be continued in Part 2 ANTICIPATE Source: https://gongafricablog.com/2017/01/13/my-smart-choice-part-1/ cc: prof800 UjSizzle Briareos |

Some random Ghanaian who happened to be in his house for a party- probably to celebrate the win decided to give us a sneak peek into his ultra modern mansion and what it consists off will basically blow your mind away. First of all the guy doesn’t live in a house but a mall and his garage is simply a showroom consisting high end machines you only see in music videos. And apparently the guy is very philanthropic with his wealth and he never hesitates to share with his friends and the needy. Watch the video which will entirely convince you some people are in the world to ball while others are just here to be a cheerleader ![]() https://gongafricablog.com/2017/01/12/ghana-president-elect-nana-akufo-addos-ultra-modern-luxurious-mansion-his-fleet-of-bentleys-and-how-he-wines-and-dines-with-his-equally-rich-friends-video/ cc: MissyB3 Fynestboi |

The 21 recently released Chibok girls have narrated their ordeal in the captivity of their Boko Haram abductors to a clergy, Pastor Bulus They told Bulus they were not immediately taken into the forest after capture but to a house in Borno Government Residential Area (GRA) in Maiduguri where they stayed for two months From the GRA, the girls said they were taken to Gwoza where they claimed that a top politician allegedly housed them in one of his residences for about 8 months The girls also reportedly said that some of the Chibok girls never made it to Sambisa forest as they were killed in Gwoza by a bomb allegedly dropped on the house they were staying by a Nigerian Airforce fighter jet. The recently released Chibok girls have revealed details of how some politicians allegedly sponsored the activities of the Boko Haram insurgents in the northeast for their personal gains. According to a Chibok clergy called Pastor Bulus Baba from Kaya community in Chibok local government area of Borno state, his discussions with some of the girls revealed that some politicians reportedly played an active part in their abduction. In an interview with Daily Post in Maiduguri, Pastor Bulus said the politicians reportedly did this in order to frustrate the administration of past president Goodluck Jonathan. First, he said, the girls claimed they were not immediately driven into the forest as widely believed, but were first taken to a house in Borno Government Residential Area in Maiduguri where they stayed for two months before they were taken to Gwoza where they claimed that a top politician allegedly housed them in one of his residences for about 8 months. They were however forced to head into Sambisa forest after a bomb was dropped on the compound by a Nigerian Airforce fighter jet. Some of the Chibok girls and other women abducted along with them were allegedly killed in the attack. Bulus said: ”The girls said, they spent over 8 months in Gwoza local government area along with other abducted women. They said they were kept at a resident of one of the top politicians in that local government area until at a point when a fighter jet dropped bomb that touch part of the house killing some of the girls.” The girls said that after leaving Gwoza, they were divided into groups and while some severely sexually abused and others were forced to marry the militants. The federal government however declared (upon release of 21 girls) that none of them had been abused. Pastor Bulus said: “It was a sad story, we believe that those behind this evil will never go unpunished. For us in Chibok, we will keep praying that, those of them who are still being held by their captors shall gain freedom and be reunited with their families like these ones that came home.” Meanwhile, in its determined counter-terrorism efforts, the Department of State Services says it has recorded major successes against criminal gangs, kidnap syndicates and Boko Haram terrorists across the country. The agency says the successes have further degraded the capability of these elements to operate in the county https://gongafricablog.com/2017/01/11/21-released-chibok-girls-the-untold-story-about-boko-haram/ cc: OAM4J, Mynd44 |
The Federal Government on Wednesday says it will no longer recognise Taiwan as a country but rather pledged support for One China. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, stated this while answering questions from newsmen after a joint news conference with the Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs in Abuja. Onyeama said Nigeria had withdrawn all diplomatic relations with Taiwan as a country, adding that Taiwanese office in Abuja would be shut down and be relocated to Lagos. According to him, Nigeria has communicated this to Taiwan and they are moving to Lagos as soon as possible. “Taiwan will stop enjoying any privileges because it is not a country that is recognised under international law; and under the position we have taken internationally, we recognise the people of China. “Taiwan will not have any diplomatic representation in Nigeria and also, they will be moving to Lagos to the extent that they function as a trade mission with skeletal staff. “Chinese Government does not oppose trading with Taiwan as long as there is no formal contact with the government that will suggest recognition of Taiwan as sovereign country,” Onyeama said. According to him, China does not oppose relationship with Taiwan in the level of trade but not on government to government level. The minister, however, said that Nigeria was not pressurized to take the decision, noting that the development was a bit of anomaly on the side of Nigeria He said that Nigeria recognised the People’s Republic of China as country because Nigeria was one the leading African nations that fought for China to reclaim its seat at the UN Security Council from Taiwan. He said the step being taken was to right the wrong that one could not specifically say how it came. “It was not very clear how it got into Nigeria system – an arrangement for the Taiwan for a trade mission. “And in grating the right of the trade mission it did not accurately reflect the nature of relationship between Nigeria and Taiwan,” he said. Onyeama stated that the country took the decision to remove any iota of doubt in the mind of the Chinese people. He said on the issue of building trust, the international community had embraced one China and China is a member of the United Nations and we don’t want to leave any doubt on the issue. The minister stressed that Nigeria would adhere to it completely and there is no ambiguity at all. He said Nigeria as a nation would do everything to realise the One China Policy as well as any effort that would promote the peace and well being of the People’s Republic of China. According to Onyeama, China is one of the countries that have been in full support of reforms in the UN that would see Africa having two seats at the UN Security Council, as such deserved to be supported in her unification drive of One China.
