Education / Application Of Mathematics To Daily Lives by Philomath01(m): 1:40pm On Oct 21, 2018
Majority of you are wondering that, what will I gain from studying mathematics?, why must I study maths....check below to know the important of studying mathematics
1. CALCULUS
Calculus is a concept used to calculate the smallest difference in a number. It is divided into differentiation and integration. You might have studied the concept deeper in your school or college. But have you ever wondered what it actually means and what it is used for?
An architect uses calculus to calculate the materials required to construct curved structures such as domes and arches.
Electrical engineers use it to calculate the length of power cables between places that are miles apart.
Biologists use it to calculate the rate of growth in microbes etc.
2. ALGEBRA
'I know everybody's exes, other than algebra's 'x'.' If that was one of your statements while you were wondering what that 'x' had to do in your life, then here's the answer to that burning question!
The study of DNA and genes can be better explained in terms of equations. Their properties can be easily deduced with the help of x and y chromosomes.
In economics, x and y are used to determine the supply and demand of goods.
In computer graphics (CG), x and y are used as coordinates to design objects and their movements. The famous game Mario was designed using 3D animation on CG.
3. TRIGONOMETRY
Sine, cos, tan and cosec. What were all those names anyway?! Each one denotes an angular measurement.
Trigonometric angles are used in the construction of marine ramps.
They are used to spot a location for navigation.
They are also used to determine the depth of algae underwater and sonar systems.
4. LOGARITHMS
We all can write numbers up to 10 million. Beyond that, can you read the numbers at one go without actually re-reading and counting the zeros? Logarithms simplify complicated numbers through exponents and coefficients. Log tables help you to refer the corresponding numbers and make calculations less laborious. It is largely used in computing memory spaces and in computer languages.
5. PROBABILITY
Probability is a concept we use in everyday life. 'Should I take a car or bus to office?' is something we ask ourselves on a regular basis, and we make the decision using probability. Probability basically tells you the chances of a specific occurrence of an event. The meticulous calculations can be used in determining big events such as the probability of you winning a jackpot or a lottery!
6. STATISTICS
Statistics, like probability, is a more familiar concept. And like probability, we use statistics in our everyday lives. Population census is an epitome of statistics. To get the demographics of a sample size, statistics plays an important role with its various functions, like while determining average and mean estimates.
7. MATRICES
Matrix is an array of elements processed according to specific needs. In robotic systems, matrices are used to control the movement of robots. Data structures and databases make use of this concept for an organised algorithm.
8. MENSURATION
Mensuration is nothing but measurement of different units. From buying groceries to checking our weight, we use mensuration day in and day out. From determining the body temperature using a thermometer and a barometer to determining the weather, mensuration plays an integral role.
et cetera.

Education / Mathematics Phobia, Causes And Solution by Philomath01(m): 1:30pm On Oct 19, 2018
Mathematics, which is commonly referred to as maths is from the Greek words, learning, study and knowledge. The major topics thought under mathematics include change, space, structure and quantity (numbers). This subject is disliked by most students, they condemned this subject which often causes phobia for them.
Being sound in mathematics is a skill which can be developed, there are number of people who started out hating mathematics, through their determination to try and accept the fact that it is everywhere in whatever course they take, they learned it, and not only were they able to deal with it, they also learned from it and increased their earning power.
Mathematics Phobia as the name implies is the fear of mathematics, fear that you can't understand mathematics, fear that mathematics is difficult, this in all way should be discouraged in our societies, mathematics is really fun and should be addressed as a simple subject.

Causes of this mathematics Phobia includes but not limited to:

- Method adopted by the teacher to teach the students
- Student inability to process complicated concept in their brain
- Poor teacher-student relationship
- Assigning too many mathematics assignment to the student which may make the subject to be boring
- Teacher inability to break down complicated concept into simpler forms
- Non application of instructional materials while teaching the students
- The use of abusive words by mathematics teachers
- Students career choice
- Students inadequate background in calculations
- Students poor background in long procedures of solving mathematical problems.
- The fear of public embarrassment:
Math anxiety has also been linked to negative emotions from the past. If a student has been scolded for getting an answer wrong, it can make his or her anxiety worse. The same is true if he or she has been embarrassed in front of others.

What are the likely symptoms of this Mathematics Phobia

- Unusual nervousness: if you always seem nervous whenever you're doing mathematics or thinking about mathematics
- Passive behaviours: You're either afraid of failure or simply thinking about math bring so many negative emotions that you're unwilling to try
- A feeling of being alone: you feel that you are the only one incapable of finding the solutions even if the math is extremely simple
- A feeling of permanency: you begin to believe that you are naturally bad at maths and will always be, so you give up trying to improve
- Lack of confidence: you expect never to know the answer to math questions, so you depend on people (your friend) to do math for you
- Panic during test or when called to answer question: the classroom becomes a major source of stress for you, especially when you are taking a text or expected to contribute in class.
Nobody is born perfect, as I said earlier mathematics is a skill, what you just need is someone to enlighten you on how how to develop the skill, that's the reason why I will be urging you to join THE BRAINY FOX in their 7-day online tutorial, aimed at fighting mathematics phobia, you will learn the right techniques, the foundational topics in mathematics and also be motivated to known mathematics just for a token (amount used to subscribe for data or buy recharge card)

Religion / Re: Letter Of Covenant Written By Prophet Mohammed(pbuh) To All Christians by Philomath01(m): 6:40pm On Jan 12, 2018
Emmahunk:
Nairalanders, for starters, I am a believing Christian and by God's grace will remain such till I die. However, I believe that this letter should teach all of us some lessons on how to live in peace with one another. Note that I however, do not agree with the first paragraph because I am a citizen of Christ .
Matured comments please.

LETTER OF COVENANT WRITTEN BY PROPHET MUHAMMAD (PBUH) TO ALL CHRISTIANS.

“This is a message from Muhammad ibn Abdullah, as a covenant to those who adopt Christianity, near and far, we are with them. Verily, I, the servants, the helpers, and my followers defend them, because Christians are my citizens; and by Allah! I hold out against anything that displeases them.

No compulsion is to be on them. Neither are their judges to be removed from their jobs nor their monks from their monasteries.

No one is to destroy a house of their religion, to damage it, or to carry anything from it to the Muslims’ houses. Should anyone take any of these, he would spoil God’s covenant and disobey His Prophet. Verily, they are my allies and have my secure charter against all that they hate.

No one is to force them to travel or to oblige them to fight. The Muslims are to fight for them. If a female Christian is married to a Muslim, it is not to take place without her approval. She is not to be prevented from visiting her church to pray.

Their churches are to be respected. They are neither to be prevented from repairing them nor the sacredness of their covenants. No one of the nation (Muslims) is to disobey the covenant till the Last Day (end of the world).”

CUPS Remarks: The original covenant letter is now in the Topkapi Museum in Instanbul, Turkey. We at CUPS decided to publish it in the pursuit of peace for our beloved country and also to show solidarity with his Royal Highness, the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, who paid for the rebuilding of a destroyed Church by ignorant Muslim zealots during a community riot in Rogo LGA of Kano state.

May the Almighty God enlighten our people with the true understanding of both Islam and Christianity, so that we can have religious tolerance, mutual respect for each other, and for peace and prosperity to prevail across our country. Amen.

Dr. Idris Ahmed.
CUPS.

Islam for Muslims / Re: 12 Questions And Answers In Janazah by Philomath01(m): 12:18pm On Dec 08, 2017
pristinecreed:

How do we instruct (the dying person to say shahaadah)
It should be said to the dying person, say: laa ilaaha illaa Allaah, remember your Lord. If he says it good, the dying person should not be shouted upon till he says shahaadah, if dhikr is done beside the dying person and he repeats it good and praise be to Allaah.

Is facing the dying person to the Qiblah legislated
Yes, that is encouraged according to the people of knowledge because of his statement (commendations and peace of Allaah be upon him): the Ka’bah is your Qiblah (direction); (when) alive and (when) dead.

What is the manner of facing the dying person to the Qiblah

He should be placed on his right side, with his face towards the Qiblah as is done in the tomb

Is it permissible to kiss the dead
There is no problem in kissing the dead if the woman who kisses him is one of his mahram or it’s a man that kisses him as Abu Bakr Siddeeq did to the messenger )commendations and peace of Allaah be upon him(.

Is it allowed for the washer to ask the family of the dead used to observe solah or not?
As long as he is apparently a Muslim and those who brought him are Muslims there’s no need to ask them. Some people may take that with levity which leads to leaking secrets, so also in solah upon, questions should not be asked about him if he is apparently a Muslim.

If the deceased had instructed that a particular person should wash him, should his instruction be acted upon?
Yes, his instruction should be acted upon.

Is it right for a man to wash his wife or a one or two years old daughter when she dies?
There is no problem in a man washing his wife and the woman washing her husband; because that has been reported in the sunnah from the messenger of Allaah and the pious predecessors of this ummah. But, it is not permissible for the man to wash other women than his wife including his mother …

Is it permissible to take away the moustache, armpit hairs, nails and pubic hairs?
Reducing the nails and moustache and trimming the nails is encouraged, but I don’t know any evidence for shaving the pubic hairs and removing the armpit hairs, it is better to leave them because they are hidden unlike fingernails and moustache.

If a person dies with golden tooth on him should it be removed from him if he owes debt even if the removal will not be easy or it should be left if there’s no debt on him?
If a person dies with gold or silver tooth on him there’s no problem in leaving it if pulling it will not be easy whether he owes a debt or not… if pulling it is easy it is obligatory to do so because it is wealth and should not be wasted.

Should the one who committed suicide be washed and prayed upon?

Prayer should be observed on the one who commits suicide and he should be buried in the cemetery of the Muslims because he is a sinner not a disbeliever; suicide is a sin not an act of disbelief. If a person kills himself –we seek refuge with Allaah- he should be washed, shrouded and prayed upon, but it is good for the grand Imam and those who have importance to avoid observing solah upon him as a deterrent; so that the people will not think he is pleased with the act. It is good if the grand Imam, Sultan, judges, head of towns or their Ameer avoid such (i.e. avoid attending such solah) to serve as a deterrent for this act and declaration that this is a misdeed but some people should pray on him.

I wish that you explain the way to observe Solah on the deceased as has been established from the messenger of Allaah because many are ignorant of it.
The messenger (commendations and peace of Allaah be upon him) and his companions (Allaah be pleased with them) have explained the way to observe solah of the deceased (Janazah).
It is that he first makes takbeer (Allaahu Akbar) then he seeks protection from the cursed shaitan then he mentions (the name of Allaah i.e. bismiLLaahi-r-Rahmaani-r-Raheem) and he recites suratul fatihah and a short chapter or some verses, then he makes tekbeer (says Allaahu Akbar) and he recites solah upon the messenger as he recites at the end of his (other) solah, then he makes a third tekbeer and prays for the deceased, the most preferred is to say “Allaahumma ighfir li hayyinaa wa mayyitinaa wa shaahidinaa wa ghaa’ibinaa wa sagheerinaa … Allaahumma laa tuharrimnaa ajrahu wa laa tudhillanaa ba’dahu”
All these were memorised from the messenger (commendations and peace of Allaah be upon him)… then he should make a fourth tekbeer and wait a little, then he should make a single tesleem to his right by saying: Asssalaamu alykum wa rahmatuLLaahi wa BarakaatuH.
It is recommended for the Imam to stand by the head of the male (corpse for prayer) and at the waist of the woman because it has been authentically reported from the messenger in the hadith of Anas and Samurah bn Jundub. But the statement of some scholars: The sunnah is to stand by the chest of the man, is a weak opinion which has no evidence as much as we know.
The deceased should be faced to the Qiblah while performing solah on him because of the words of the messenger (commendations and peace of Allaah be upon him) regarding the Ka’bah: “It is the direction of the Muslims; dead and alive”.

Is it right to specify a part of the cemetery for women and a part for men to make it easy to recognise the buried?
I don’t know any basis for this, what is legislated is that the grave should be for everyone because of the ease and simplicity in it also because this is what the Muslims have been upon since his time (commendations and peace of Allaah be upon him) till our time-according to our knowledge- Baqee’ (a cemetery at Madeenah) contained both men and women during his time (commendations and peace of Allaah be upon him). Every good is in following his way and the way of his companions and those who followed their way rightly.
