For your information, Biafran soldiers also invaded communities in Southeast and killed elderly men who resisted their effort to carry the boys above 18yrs to join the war in favor of Biafra. It is called conscription of civilians for war.


Every nation, tribe or race does this when they face a daring war that they lack soldiers to prosecute or combat. Russia and Ukraine are doing it today. Israel may start to do same with time.

One of my uncles was forced to the war front, his father was killed by Biafran soldiers because he tried to resist them from taking his son. This happened in all communities in Southeast, Biafran soldiers even invaded some communities to get food, but we Southeast Igbos understand why they did some of those barbaric things and didn't deny our Igbo identity because of that war.


My father flew Enugu back to our own hometown. Some Imo people flew Onitsha, Abia people flee Onitsha and Enugu back to Abia. People flee Portharcourt to today Southeast because they feel safer there and the war was raging more from Portharcourt, Enugu, Onitsha sides. So it was natural for Igbos to flee to more inner Igbo communities for safety.



I know that Ikwerre people started this their Igbo identity denial after the civil war and for crude oil politics, we understand but we won't stop telling you lost brothers that you are wrong, yes you have the right to be angry and to decide to be on your own, but stop telling senseless lies that you are from Bini kingdom when the Oba of Bini himself said no you Ikwerre people are Igbos.



You can decide to be on your own for politics and for crude oil wealth, no wahala, but stop lying about your ancestry.


Crude oil era will definitely expire like coal era, but don't take because of that and deny who you are. I am Ikwerre. There is no historical tie between the ikwerres and Igbos. My grandma was from Umuahia and said Igbos have alway a distinct ethnic from Ikwerres. That they called us NDI Ikwerre.

The Ikwerres have always said they are not Igbos. Ikwerres had Ogbakor Ikwerre in 1963 to identify themselves as a distinct ethnic group even before Igbos remembered to form Ohaneze Ndigbo in 1965. Ikwerre gathered in 1965 to declare their unique identity in a communique released in Rumuomasi even years before the civil war.

Guy, my own clan in Anambra call Igbos of other states "Ndi Igbo" yet we are as Igbo as others. We call people from Onitsha "Ndi Onitsha" you will also hear "Ndi Nsukka, Ndi Abakaliki, Ndi Ndi Owerri, Etc" that's a normal reference in Igbo land. It doesn't make any of these places a distict ethnic group.

You can not have your entire existence and culture screaming Igbo from name to language to dressing to market days to kingship etc then wake up one morning to claim an ethnic group. Show me any other ethnic group in Nigeria that uses the traditional Igbo 4 market days?
