EducationRe: Working As A Doctor In Nigeria After Medical School BROKE ME! by Phoenixandfire: 4:36pm On Jun 07, 2024
Odotech:
I work in a federal hospital, I have seen payslips. A starting resident doctor earns already above 400k as we speak. Very Senior consultants earn 1.2m monthly. You are an engineer working outside the federal hospital setting and you are arguing foolishly with such audacity about something you don't know about. Health workers are poorly paid but not the medical doctors. Go look for their payslip before you come here to argue foolishly.

Anybody in oil industry earns well. Consultants in mobil earn above the N2m to N3m you are talking about. Other sectors are not monopolized against doctors the way doctors monopolize hospital against other health professionals. A nurse at her peak earns less than 400k which is the starting point of a resident medical doctor. Get your facts right. Yet, Nurses don't complain the way doctors complain about poor wages
No pls, starting resident Doctors don't earn above 400,000.

Many consultants earn around 700-800k except Consultants that also work as Lecturers and get paid for both.

Senior registrars earn 440-470, so pls how can a new Resident earn above 400?

Except you are in the North where the pay may be higher.

Pls check those payslips well and be sure.

Private practice sef pays Medical doctors 250-350.

That's why many people are no longer interested in Residency and would rather japa.

I agree. It's not even the religious aspect that's my issue, I know they can have the surgery w/o a transfusion.

I know how terrible the system is, it's fvcked up how she wasn't even monitored and how they couldn't even do CPR for the baby. If I was to deliver in Nigeria, I would opt for a CS rather than a normal delivery. At least with a CS, the experts are present w/ you from the start. It's seems w/ normal delivery, they just leave you to your devices. Its sad.

I can see where he agreed to the surgery, but it doesn't seem like he was fully open to it. Why then was she made to deliver naturally? Whose decision was it truly? I know Nigerians have phobias around surgeries. Women that have CS are shamed for not doing like "the Hebrew women" and that's the part that annoys me.
Please it is not true that you are left on your own for vaginal deliveries and our system is not terrible. We may not have the best things to work with but some Medical personnel try their best and that's also a big part of why they excel abroad.

Please just get a good hospital, play your own part and pray.

I have had 2 wonderful vaginal deliveries in Nigeria, not from any expensive, big Hospital.

I used an average Hospital and I saw how myself and other pregnant women were treated well, my first delivery was barely 30,000 naira in 2019 and I was well taken care of, when the placenta wouldn't detach, an alarm was promptly raised and I got the necessary help even during the night.

Don't let all of these scare you, even primary health centres attend well to people and in less than 6 hours you are on your way home if no complication and adequate referral if need be.

I'm not siding anybody yet, I'm grieved at the loss. Yet the truth from my experience is that J.W are one of the worst patients to have.
JW patients ehn......

The Hospital may have been very wrong with their management, but this man looks like someone that would have been a verrrry difficult patient.

He was the one contacting the Doctor, why wasn't the wife in charge of her own birth protocol?

Why didn't he release the entire WhatsApp chat, instead of a few snippets here and there.

The MDCN and appropriate authorities need to thoroughly investigate the case and the Hospital should bear the consequences of their wrongdoings if found culpable.

You are very correct, itz almost largely impossible for an anaesthesiologist to be on ground everytime
A medical officer was with his wife throughout
God bless you.

The man works in a Hospital and receives his salaries there, can he tell me that where he works has an O/G consultant or Anaesthiologist 24/7?

Do they have all those machines he mentioned and was talking about?

Why didn't he register her in his own place of work where he attends to patients too?

Don't screen people out - educate them.
Many Nigerians don't like education, their bias and sentiments always comes first.

Being a health worker in Nigeria is frustrating.

Patients with relatives or Medical Doctor/Nurses friends abroad are even worse.

You will talk and talk and talk and "So so and so wants to speak with you on the phone" is all you will hear without interest in whatever you have to say.

They will make it look like all you are after is money, many people will believe traditional healers and scammers before believing a trained professional.

Truthfully and honeslty, most times health workers educate patients out of experience and care and it breaks their hearts when things go wrong because it could have been avoided.

My tired is tired.

Okay.
Someone said root canal is dangerous also.
After doing the root canal, maybe after some few years or months, ur jaw bones start rotting away.
Pls read and research, root canals don't cause the bones to rot.

Root canals gave been practiced for over 100 years, if there was real evidence of its danger, it would have been scrapped, e.g Mercury was found to be dangerous and is no longer being used.

Root canals even helps new bone form around teeth, it won't cause bones to rot.

Google is your friend.

Why do y'all believe crap easily?

This is why I try to talk about stuff sometimes and enlighten people, misinformation is super dangerous, the person spreading such won't see it as anything, but now imagine all those who have seen and will now believe that Root canals cause bones to rot.

The Dentist who said it was trying to advertise her own form of treatment (which also have side effects), so what happens when another person disproves her own theories too?

Maybe it's best y'all stay away from hospitals, learn the hard way abeg.

At least....population control.

Leave am make he dey yarn apkata, maybe na paper dem go come spend for hospital. The reason most Nigerians shy away from hospitals is nothing but the bills
But same Nigerians spend on everything else.

It is only healthcare bills that scare them.

Alcohol, outings, parties and owambes.

Stroll around on any given evening, is it paper they spend there too?

It is only when it comes to our health there's no money and they yarn okpata, health o, like your life and well being.

You can buy wigs of 25,000, some wear wigs of 1million and above.

How much is tooth extraction? 10,000 in some places, private hospitals 15,000-50,000.
