techsuplex: We have learned from reliable sources that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has directed MTN to halt with immediate effect all it’s plans with the 10 kobo per second rates. According to the source, about 8 million of it’s subscribers on the affected plans (MTN iPulse and MTN SuperSaver plus) would be automatically migrated to other plans starting from midnight, 14th of July, 2013 to avoid NCC sanctions.

No clear reason has been put forward for the NCC directive, but my guess is that it has to do with NCC’s designation of both MTN and Globacom Nigeria as “dominant” players and as a result would be closely monitored to ensure that they were not using “anti-competitive practices” to stifle the competition. If that’s the case, It would be funny as that very reason gave birth to the new plans being scrapped today.

We have reached out to a few contacts and we’ll update if we hear something new on the issue. So if you wake up tomorrow on a new plan, well we gave you a few hours heads up.

chidooh1: The beauty of it all is that this phone is upgradeable to a higher version of android 5.0, that would be available later in the year. The only Tecno product for now that can achieve that

matrixme: I wonder when Nairaland will stop forcing the Tecno brand down our noses. As a former user of their N3 brand, I have grown to hate the brand with the way they constantly attack the masses. People need to know that there are better Android brands out there that are economic and best for the price. Even if you buy them second-handed.
