What stops him from completing the traditional rights of a prince to the Throne?
Tell us if you are that close to the throne.
He has completed it by going to the bush for 14 days but what they normally expect is that he should stage a ceremony that he his a king. This is just ceremonial not Traditional. If he hasn't completed the traditional right nobody would give him the staff of office and he cannot wear a crown. What the kingmakers are asking for is a ceremony where he would dash out money to them which is just ceremonial. Its optional.
I dont know where u get your facts from.
Did I gave u any fact, you are already behaving like the Oba.

Anyway check out his Staff of Office:

At this point, Jonathan can not and must not have a naive NSA, this caused the security lapse that ensured that he was detained between thw time the plane landed and Yar'Adua moved into Aso Rock. What he did in military parlance is Reconnaissance, just watch his next move. He will catch a lot of people napping including the so called kitchen cabinet.

It is not how fast but how well done. I think we we should just allow next FEC to play out, surprises all the way.

Court asks Chief Justice to swear-in Jonathan as acting President
January 13, 2010 01:54PMT

A Federal High Court in Abuja, on Wednesday, asked the Chief Justice of Nigeria to swear-in Vice President Goodluck Jonathan as acting president of Nigeria pending the return of President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua from Saudi Arabia.

The ruling followed a case instituted by a lawyer, Christopher Onwuekwe, claiming that the absence of President Yar'Adua and his failure to handover to Mr. Jonathan as acting President are indications that there is no Head of government and that the situation is capable of threatening the existence and stability of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Mr. Onwuekwe, through his counsel, Amobi Nzelu, said that since the president has not written to the National Assembly informing it that his Vice should oversee the affairs of the state pending his return, a way out of the situation would be for the court to empower Mr. Jonathan to exercise the powers of president pending Mr. Yar'Adua's return to office.

The suit by Mr. Onwuekwe is not the only one in which a court will be asked to make Mr. Jonathan acting President in the absence of Mr. Yar'Adua who is believed to be receiving medical attention in Saudi Arabia. Recently, the President of the West African Bar Association, Femi Falana, sued the Federal Government at a Federal High Court in Abuja, asking it to compel President Yar' Adua to inform the National Assembly about his hospitalisation and empower Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan to take charge of governance.

BusinessIs Intercontinental Bank Healthy? by picazy(op): 9:17am On Mar 20, 2009
The attention of the regulatory authority was drawn to various comments on Intercontinental Bank posted on this site and Nigerians inundated the apex authority with calls to inquire about status of the bank. it was soothing for me as a customer to hear that the bank is not just healthy but very healthy. I was still banking with the bank despite the increament in minimum savings balane until one faceless Dayo Coker advice that I clean out, base on a very spurious allegation which I have since discover was false after I closed my account with the bank. Base on the new revelation from the regulatory authority, I have since gone back to re-establish banking with the bank. I think the bank also got the drift of its customers; I got another text message it reverted its initial decision on the N10, 000 minimum savings balance. With N1, 000 you can now continue to enjoy unparallel banking experience with the bank.

Great Nairalanders read and jugde for yourself,

The attention of the Central Bank of Nigeria has been drawn to the baseless rumours about INTERCONTINENTAL BANK PLC’S financial condition which has elicited enquiries by customers, depositors and the general public.

The Central Bank of Nigeria wishes to react as follows:

1. Intercontinental Bank Plc remains healthy and has been meeting her obligations to her customers.

2. The bank has been participating actively at the foreign exchange Retail Dutch Auction (RDAS) where it bids regularly on behalf of her customers who require foreign exchange for their transactions.

3. The Central Bank of Nigeria has not received any adverse report from her correspondent and/or other foreign banks of any default or unprofessional conducts.

4. The Central Bank of Nigeria has been providing short-term liquidity support to all the Nigerian banks in line with CBN’s role as lender of last resort.  The facilities are available for all the banks including Intercontinental Bank Plc should any bank require them.

5. The general public is hereby advised to ignore any negative rumours or false information on Intercontinental Bank Plc or any other Nigerian bank as the information is false.  They should continue to transact their legitimate business, including deposit placement with Intercontinental Bank Plc and other Nigerian banks.

6. The Central Bank of Nigeria reiterates its assurance that Nigerian banks are strong enough to manage the shocks and challenges occasioned by the global economic crises.  The CBN also stands ready to provide liquidity support to any bank that may require it during this period and beyond.

Definitely there wil be another round of consolidation the banks can't escape this:

The competition is getting stiffer and that would mean one thing either survive or die

BANKS DEMARKET EACH OTHER

Last week the banking industry witnessed fresh round of de-marketing when some operators began to originate and sponsor telephone SMS to discredit the competitors.

Some of the text messages were alleging that some of the targeted banks were distressed or having liquidity problems. They also urged depositors to run from those targeted banks listed. About 13 banks were listed in four different text messages.

Industry sources are of the opinion that the originators of the SMS were merely trying to undermine the targeted bank’s hold on some particular customers with a view to snatching the customers.

They also disclosed that because some banks’ financial year is ending around this period they were desperate to rake in as much deposit as possible by all means to reach pre-determined financial results.

This de-marketing phenomenon appeared to have been intensified following the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) decision to enforce uniform year end for all banks this year, a situation which has restricted inter-bank borrowing.
It would be recalled that CBN came down hard on some operators in the industry who are fond of blackmailing their colleagues through unethical marketing strategies.
According the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) the responsibility for ensuring the safety and soundness of the banking system is a collective one for all stakeholders in the banking industry.
To check the trend, the CBN had issued a circular in 2006, against the spreading of false rumours among the operators. According to the circular reference BSD/08/2006, the CBN warned against what it called, “the unethical and unprofessional practice of de-marketing colleagues/other banks in the industry by spreading rumours.”
In its latest circular, the apex bank noted with concern the recent practice whereby, some officers of deposit money banks engaged in the de-marketing of other banks through disparaging comments and the use of negative text messages.
It said, “Banks are advised to caution their staff on this practice as henceforth, any staff of a bank found to be involved in such an act will be summarily dismissed and blacklisted.”
The bank also warned that if another staff of the same bank was involved in such a practice, the institution would face severe sanctions, including but not limited to a monetary fine of N10m, adding that appropriate channel would be opened by the CBN for the report of such unwholesome practice by banks’ customers and the general public.
The statement added that in the overall interest of the banking system, all banks were advised to enthrone an appropriate corporate culture that would guide against such practices in the future.
However, CBN insists that no bank is having problems in the country adding that it is ever-ready to ensure that no bank in Nigeria fails.

But many observers believe that the apex bank needs to do more to rid the banking industry of such irresponsible acts and individuals.

9 out of 10 Nigerian graduates unemployed
A World Bank study shows that one out of every five adults in Nigeria is unemployed and one out of every 10 university graduates gets a job.

You have 90 per cent probability of getting employed in the financial services industry than in any other sector of the Nigerian economy, the oil companies are down and partially out, the civil service needs fresh blood from this young graduates but can the civil services employ everybody?

The graduates are they employable? what manner of graduates are unemployed, I started working for free immediately after service year for one whole year before I secure employment, can you do that?

You are unemployed because you choose tooo, create employment where there is none and very soon you will be employed by yourself or someone will find you employable.

China cancels $2.5b rail project loan, the ones collected before what happened to the funds? Let China go with the money, with the global financial meltdown how do you intend to pay back? Remember we are running a deficit budget now.

Dangote’s wealth drops by $0.8bn on account of financial meltdown
Although his assets fell in value from $3.3bilion in 2008 to $2.5billion this year, Aliko Dangote, Nigeria’s foremost industrialist has moved up in global ranking of the world’s richest men from 334th position last year to 261st in 2009.

Do you no why, he moved up he has wealth value creating assets though value may be falling but the assets are generating wealth case close, go and start something that would create value.

First Inland Bank profit drops by 75%

that is not to say the bank is sick it only reflects the Nigerian economy and more banks would declare lower profits as time goes on but once the global economy picks up the banks profit positions would equal follow the Northward progression , seeeeee you get my drift

Students go into the banking hall with identity cards as students, that immediately gives them special status in any nigerian bank including Intercontinental, this special arrangement definitely would not affect students because tyhe regulatory authory is wacthing the activities of every bank through the Know Your Customer (KYC) policy. Students don't need to loose sleep over such banking policy because they are well covered just like the civil servant.

Come to think of it, studenst of every Secondary School, University, College of Education, Polytech and private universities have one special account or the other with various privilegdes, which is more than N10, 000 and for the records, YOU ARE ALLOWED TO DRAW DOWN YOUR ACCOUNT TO THE LAST KOBO, STUDENTS INCLUSIVE

Keep laughing, i wish Nigerian banks well but you have got to wonder who the hell is making decisions for these banks?? Distress or no distress, what kind of bank increases their min. saving account deposits in an econonmy like Nigeria?? when most civil servants don't earn but N25,000 a month and that is even if they are paid on time. with a decision like that, distress is just a door step away. Keep laughing ok! that smirk will be wiped off your face when intercontinental finally realize how many people has closed their account in the last few days. The so called politicians money they depend on is drastically reduced too, remember crude oil is now like $40.00/barrel as oppose $140.00 last year. yeye people.

get eduacted: A minimum balance means you can only open the account with N10,000 but you can draw the account to the last kobo, for civil servants what they have is a salary account. Meaning the civil servant can open with any amount and draw same account to the last kobo. haba haba big bros lets not misinform the public state it correctly and clearly

Are Nigerian Banks sick?

If possible some Nigerians would suddenly discover that tsunamis would hit Kano or Lagos just because tsunamis occurred somewhere in Asia. Reading some comments about some Nigerian banks over the past few hours just made me concluded that most of the comments are from uninformed positions,
That a bank in US and UK is distressed to some of my folks automatically translate to distressed Nigerian banks. One of the arguments advanced was that one of Nigeria’s biggest bank was distressed just because the bank said it planned to reviewed upward it savings minimum balance to this development the next conclusion is the bank is distressed all man go withdraw your money ooo before the bank collapse what can be further from the truth.
Hahahahahahahahah, hope you guys could see my laughter; D
smiley Using logic: Can a bank in distress ask customers to increase minimum deposit to N10, 000? Logical move by any distressed bank is to grabbbbbbb every available deposit by lowering minimum savings balance but the bank did the very opposite which rather than being interpreted as being distressed should be seen as being highly fluid and looking for ways to re-structure its deposit structure to suit its new business focus.
The bank is not distressed it’s just getting ready for the next stage of its development and evolution; remember Nigerians are winning a lot of big gifts in the banks ongoing savings promo asking customer to maintain N20, 000 in their account and get rewarded this same Nigerians were comfortable with that arrangement but when asked to maintain N10,000 for better services they shouted blue murder hababababababababa… any reply
There banks whose minimum saving balance is N50, 000 and nobody caused a steer over the development, the logical conclusion is when we look through parochial sight we see mischief in every bold move to change. The banks definitely have challenges but not to the point of saying the banks are sinking.
