I bought my first phone 4 months after MTN launched and it was an Alcatel phone, followed by a Nokia 3210 then Samsung tru-I.

The 3210 was a little heavy, with monophonic ringtones lol, the tru i was so beautiful, color screen was the bomb then, with the little beautiful screen before flipping it. But it had only dial up connection with no gprs, 400 naira MTN credit wouldn't give you 15 minutes browsing lol.

I’ve stopped listening to the so called afrobeats as it’s all starting to sound like the same old cacophony of noise with all these recent artists….including the big three you guys are fawning over!

The last time i had interest in afrobeats was when Davidos’ FALL, FIRE-FIRE-BURN (i know that’s not the name of the song but his fans will know the song I’m referring to), and IF were topping the charts. As well as Runtowns MAD OVER YOU; Teknos early songs; like PANA and DURO; P-Squares early songs like NO ONE BE LIKE YOU, etc; Burnaboys ANGELINA and DANGOTE; and the artist that sang that funny song PULL OVER with Wizkid (his name escapes me at the moment)! Now it seems recent afrobeat artists are being driven by ego, hype and an obsessed fan base! It seems to be that it’s no more about the music and everything about wanting to be seen as ‘the biggest out of Africa’!
