In this time of world most difficult challenges, we have been advice by world health organisation and others concern bodies about the importance of effective hand washing in other to prevent us from this deadly corona virus disease.

It is true that washing our hands properly will help to prevent us from contacting the virus, but the challenges facing most Nigerians and others African countries is the ability to easily find water to wash their hands when the need arises.

Most offices, shops, supermarket do not have water facilities in their premises to enable easy hand washing to prevent the Covid-19 crises, some offices uses methods that are not very hygiene while others uses methods that are very difficult to maintained and sustained.

I was privilege to be part of an hygiene promotion team sometime ago which i learnt a very simple method that will help us in carry out proper and effective hand washing Technics during and after corona virus pandemic.

I will be sharing with you 1 simple method to tackle hand washing challenges and how to set it up. it is very effective, cost free and easy to carry about.

Wait a minute, before i share this tips with you, i think it will be of importance to explain the terms Hand washing, Proper hand washing and Effective hand washing.
1. HAND WASHING:

The term hand washing is simply the process of washing the hands with or without soap.
2. PROPER HAND WASHING:

This is the washing of hands with clean running water, soap, detergent or ash at critical times.
3.EFFECTIVE HAND WASHING:

This is a more thorough way of washing the hands with either soap, detergent, or ash in a manner that all hidden areas of the hand is systematically and effectively washed. The image below explain how to wash the hands effectively.

Now, we understand the term effective hand washing process, it is time to explain 1 simple method to tackle hand washing challenges during and after corona virus pandemic.
1. THE TIPPY TAP

The tippy tap as the name implies is a locally hand made washing facility, it can be constructed without spending a dime.

This facility can help you prevent contacting the virus. It provide you the opportunity of washing your hands at the right time.

It has the ability to carry about or position at a place of your choice, either in your office, shops or supermarket.

1. The first step in the construction of a tippy tap is to get a container, maybe a 4 liter gallon or a 1 liter empty container. You can choose to use any size of container.

2. The next step to take is to use nail to bore a small hole on the cover of the container.

3.The next step is to tie rope at the top and bottom of the container.

4. At this stage you will need to pour clean water in the container up to half the size of the container and then hang it at any position higher than the ground level.

Now your tippy tap is ready to use, you can pull it down to wash your hands and pull it up again once you are done washing your hands.

It is advisable to place a bucket or open container at the ground level below the tippy tap to collect the dirty water after washing the hands.
HOW TO USE THE TIPPY TAP

1. The effective way to use the tippy tap is to pull it down to get water from it to wet your hands .

2. Apply soap or detergent then wash both hands very well following the process outline in the images for effective hand washing, and pull it up again once you are done washing your hands

3. Finally, air dry or sun dry is the best approach to dry your hand after effective hand washing .

In Areas where you can not afford hand sanitizer, it is advisable to construct one or two tippy tap for yourself, place it at the side of your office entrance so that customers can easily use it to wash their hands before and after any business transaction.

Smart Ways To Position Your Doors And Windows To Give Room For Better Sitting Room Arrangement.

Today i will be sharing with you smart ways you can position you doors and windows during your building development to give room for better sitting room arrangement.

Nowadays most building construction lacks proper doors and windows positioning. This may be as a result of oversight on the part of the designer or poorly design work.Be that as it may, it is very important to check the position of your doors and windows before the actual construction.

I will be explaining with five different building illustration in other to give you a guide or clue on what to check out for and how you can arrange your sitting room to give room for free movement to others areas of the building.

1  For a Square Sitting Room

The arrangement of doors and windows should be position in a way that at least two windows should be position in opposite direction to each other. Avoid positioning windows in places where electronics is likely to be position.The doors should be position to align with the lobby door connecting the bedrooms and kitchen. 2. FOR A SITTING ROOM with large area of square meters.

3.For a Two Bedroom Commercial Apartment.

Most commercial buildings in Nigeria are victims of this common mistake. At times the front door is position in a way that will not give free movement within the sitting room environment you are considering building an apartment for rent always remember to position your front door in a way that it will be in the same direction with the lobby door to create free space for the sitting room. 4. For a Four Bedroom Apartment.

The positioning of the door and windows in an apartment that is pretty big enough depends on the shape and other factors. if you have a big sitting room and if it will not be convenient to align the front door to the lobby door, try as much as possible to create a free walk way around the sitting room in a way that it will not interfere with the sitting room arrangement.

This might not be too important to many home owners and builders but from my experience i really do not feel comfortable seeing beautiful homes from the outside only for me to go inside and discover i have to walk through the center of the sitting room before i could go to any part of the building.

To me i feel is not proper and is a common mistake that we normally ignore in building practice. This basic tips helps one to minimize cost during the construction process. So many individual have fall victims of jumping into construction of their house plan without proper planning simply because they know it all.

The building project comprises of different professional activities coming together to achieve a common goal.

Prior to building your first home it is advisable to put into consideration the following tips.

1. The Land You Are About To Build On.
Base on experience many individual have fall victims of acquiring land that is not legit, only for them to discover that the land they want to build on is in dispute.

This is a common mistake in Nigeria and most time it discourage individuals from acquiring land for building purpose.

During payment for your purchase land always ensure that the land in question is not in dispute. you can do this by involving a third party outside the agent and the landowner to investigate the legitimacy of the land.

if you are still not satisfy you can offer to pay part of the money and commence work at the site and make the remaining payment after a month to see if any one will interfere with the work process.

Avoid the mistake of acquiring your house plan when you are not really sure of the land to use.

2. The Surveyor Plan
The next thing you need to do is to engage your surveyor to carry out site survey on the land you acquire. it is always better to use your own surveyor instead of using the landowners surveyor.

Avoid using road side surveyor because there this tendency that your land might not be register with the appropriate authority. Take time to protect your site to avoid someone else selling it to other buyer.

If you are not ready yet to develop, you can carry out perimeter fencing or protect the four angles with a clearly visible well cast concrete sign(BEACON).

Finally be sure to always check your site once every two months.

3. The House Plan
The House plan is the number three consideration when planning your first home.

Most people find it to be a waste of resources contacting an architect to design an ideal house plan for them.They prefer to give it to an unprofessional persons, sometime they do the drafting them self. Request for a quality House plan design now

Remember the cost of correcting a mistake on the BUILDING after the erection of building PROJECT is always twice the initial estimated cost of the house plan.

4. Understanding The Cost Estimate Of The Building
In Africa today most people carry out a building project without actually considering the estimated cost of the project.

This is a very common practice but the problem with it is that you might end up not completing the project.

It will be a wise decision if you can pay for the services of a quantity surveyor to give you an estimate of the building or better still your can contact me for assistance or ask your builder or engineer to provide you information about the quantities of materials that will be enough to take the building to the finish level.

5.The Building Process
The site work is the practical aspect of the building projects and it involves a lot of technicalities.

Be sure to employ the service of an engineer or a builder depending on the complexity of the House plan.

Avoid the use of unprofessional to do the job of professionals because you might end up spending more to get the job done.

Remember to provide provision for storage hall and others working materials like water tank, generating set, wheelbarrow, shovels and head pans e.t.c.

Avoid the idea of procuring materials yourself without following the engineer’s advise or instructions.

You might end up buying substandard materials or even placing them in a wrong location that may affect the actual position of the house and this will lead you to extra cost.

Others Areas To Consider When Building Your First House Are:
6. Use Low Or Maintenance-Free Building Components And Materials But Not Substandard Materials.
7. Make Provision For Extra Conduit Behind Walls For Future Electrical.
8. The Height Of Your Ceiling From Ground Level Should Be At Least 9 Feet.
9. Be Flexible With Your Builder And Take Time To Build It Right
10. Let Your D.P.C Level Be At Least Two Blocks High From Ground Level.
