The International Criminal Court (ICC) has confirmed thirty-nine charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity against the Ugandan rebel commander of Lord’s Resistance Army, Joseph Kony. This is the first time for the Hague-based Court to confirm charges against a suspect in absentia. His trial can however not proceed without him in custody. More than one hundred thousand people were killed during the LRA’s campaign of terror. Reacting to the ICC confirmation, victims of the atrocities committed by the rebel reaffirmed the calls for his arrest. “He should first be arrested, and all these charges be brought against him. However, the victims who suffered the torture cannot wait, some of these victims are also dying” But Kony has not been seen in public for almost twenty years. It’s not even known if he’s still alive.

Scores killed in Nigeria riots Christian and Muslim mobs have rampaged through two Nigerian cities, killing at least 24 people in violence that followed deadly protests against caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad over the weekend. In the predominantly southern Christian city of Onitsha, residents and witnesses said at least six Muslims were beaten to death by Christian mobs which also burned two mosques there. Tuesday’s violence brought to 49 the total number of people killed in sectarian violence in Nigeria since Saturday, when protests over controversial cartoons published in Europe of the Prophet Muhammad turned violent in the northern Muslim city of Maiduguri for the first time, killing at least 18 people, police said. Adamu Abubakar, secretary of the Red Cross in Bauchi, told reporters that similar protests broke out in Bauchi city soon afterward, leaving seven dead on Monday and another 18 dead on Tuesday. Christian mobs burnt mosques in a southern Nigerian city and killing several people. “The mosque at the main market has been burnt and I’ve counted at least six dead bodies on the streets,” Izzy Uzor, an Onitsha resident and businessman, told the AP by telephone on Tuesday. “The whole town is in a frenzy and people are running in all directions.” The violence appeared to be in reprisal for anti-Christian violence on Saturday in the mostly Muslim northern city of Maiduguri in which thousands of Muslims protesting against caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad attacked Christians and burned churches. At least 18 people were killed. Badly beaten Another Onitsha resident, Isotonu Achor, said one badly beaten Muslim man ran into his office from the streets to escape the violence. “There is blood all over him and I’m scared they’ll come for him here. If he doesn’t get urgent treatment, he will die,” Achor said. Some cartoon protests have turned violent Some cartoon protests have turned violent Some cartoon protests have turned violent Police and government officials were not immediately available for comment. Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country of more than 130 million people, is roughly divided between a predominantly Muslim north and a mainly Christian south. Advertisement Thousands of people have died in religious violence in Nigeria since 2000. Saturday’s protest over the controversial cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in Maiduguri was the first violent demonstration over the issue in Nigeria. Police say at least 18 people, most of them Christians, died, and 30 churches were burned down. The Christian Association of Nigeria said at least 50 people were killed in the violence. The cartoons, deemed blasphemous, first appeared in a Danish newspaper in September.

The Israeli minister for interior mentioned that he will love to see Palestinian prisoners who are tied facing down and blindfolded dead, that they're his enemy. He called for death penalty on Terrorists. Note: Israel captured a number of prisoners of war from Gaza, many of which it hasn't accounted fit their number or information, while there are thousands people arrested in West Bank who hasn't gotten trial or taken to court for decades. Israeli Forces Used Elderly Palestinians as Human Shields Before Executing Them in Gaza Two elderly Palestinians, Haj Nadi Marouf and Haj Ali Marouf, were found executed in northern Gaza after being used as human shields by Israeli soldiers. According to local reports, troops from the 92nd Battalion of the Kfir Brigade detained the two men in Beit Lahia, forcing them to walk ahead of the soldiers as they cleared buildings. Both men were unarmed and frail, posing no threat. Witnesses say they were last seen under Israeli custody before their bodies were discovered days later, each killed with bullets to the head. The case has drawn widespread outrage, symbolising the escalating brutality that civilians face in Gaza. Using civilians as human shields is a clear violation of international law, yet such reports have become disturbingly common amid Israel’s ongoing military campaign. The deaths of Nadi and Ali Marouf, elderly men who should have been protected, have come to represent the deep moral decay of Israeli society, where even the most vulnerable are stripped of their humanity.

Far-right Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said on Thursday that Israel should reject a normalisation deal with Saudi Arabia in exchange for a Palestinian state. “If Saudi Arabia tells us that it is normalisation in exchange for a Palestinian state, then no thank you, my friends,” Smotrich said at a conference hosted by the Tzomet Institute, responding to a question on relations with Saudi Arabia. “Keep riding your camels in the Saudi desert. We’ll continue to develop our economy, society and state with all the great things we know how to do.” Smotrich released a video statement a few hours later, in which he apologised for his remarks. An Israeli settler was filmed shooting a Palestinian at point-blank range in the city of Hebron in the southern West Bank. A video circulated by Israeli non-governmental organization B'Tselem showed an armed settler assaulting Palestinians in the village of Al-Tuwani near Yatta, south of Hebron, before opening fire at one of them at a point-blank range, in the presence of the Israeli army. In a statement, the Palestinian Health Ministry said: "The critical injury resulted from live ammunition fired by the occupation forces, impacting the abdomen. The wounded individual was transported to Shahid Abu al-Hasan al-Qasim Hospital in Yatta." The West Bank is currently experiencing a surge in tensions and on-ground confrontations between Palestinians and the Israeli army, simultaneously with the deteriorating situation in Gaza since last Saturday. In a dramatic escalation of Middle East tensions, Israeli forces launched a sustained and forceful military campaign against the Gaza Strip, a response to a military offensive by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas in Israeli territories. The conflict began last Saturday when Hamas initiated Operation Al-Aqsa Flood against Israel, a multi-pronged surprise attack including a barrage of rocket launches and infiltrations into Israel via land, sea and air. Hamas said the operation was in retaliation for the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem and Israeli settlers' growing violence against Palestinians. The Israeli military then launched Operation Swords of Iron against Hamas targets within the Gaza Strip. Israel's response has extended into cutting water and electricity supplies to Gaza, further worsening the living conditions in an area that has reeled under a crippling siege since 2007. * Writing by Rania Abu Shamala Protests erupted on Sunday after Israeli forces entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound along with hundreds of ultra-nationalist Jews whom they allowed to access the compound on Jerusalem Day – when Israelis celebrate the anniversary of their occupation of East Jerusalem at the end of the 1967 Arab-Israeli war. The Muslim Waqf organisation which oversees the mosque compound – the third holiest site in Islam – said police used rubber bullets and pepper spray and arrested seven people. One Palestinian man suffered a head injury, while others were treated for gas inhalation inside the compound, a medic from the Palestinian Red Crescent said. It was the first time in about 30 years that Jews were allowed into the site during the final days of the fasting month of Ramadan, which coincided this year with the Israelinational holiday commemorating control over the city. 170719122538219 Al-Aqsa mosque director Omar al-Kiswani accused Israel of violating an agreement not to allow such visits during the last days of Ramadan. Earlier in the morning, Israeli police had deployed hundreds of their forces around the mosque compound and across the city as hundreds of Jews waited at the compound gates to enter.
Israeli police decision Reporting from West Jerusalem, Al Jazeera’s Harry Fawcett said: “What had been announced was that Jews would not be allowed into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound because of the sensitivity coming up to the end of Ramadan.” “But what actually took place was that hundreds of what we would expect to be right-wing settler and religious nationalists assembled at the gate demanding entrance. “Once the police had apparently decided they would be allowed in, protests by Palestinians started and forces moved in to put down the demonstrations. At that point, the Jewish settlers were allowed to come in,” said Fawcett. Video inside the compound showed Palestinians shouting “Allahu Akbar” (God is great) and throwing chairs and other objects at a doorway before tear gas and stun bombs were thrown at them. Thousands of Jews have also flocked to the nearby Western Wall to mark the occasion ahead of celebrations and marches that will be held around the city in the afternoon and in the evening.
The annual march through the city, including the Muslim quarter of the Old City which forces Palestinians to shutter their businesses, often sparks clashes. Security measures have been tightened and police are on high alert after a Palestinian teenager was shot dead by Israeli forces as he tried to enter occupied East Jerusalem to offer Friday prayers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. ‘An act of ‘terror’ Palestinian political parties condemned the incident. Fatah, the party that leads the Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority, described the incident as an act of “terror”. Hamas, the group that governs the besieged Gaza Strip, said the Palestinian people’s stance and perseverance indicated their refusal of the “occupation’s policies” that aimed to change the status quo of the al-Aqsa mosque compound. The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) said the incident marked a new escalation that confirms the “occupation’s intent to Judaize” al-Aqsa. It also said the incident was an attempt by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s right wing party to advance politically, especially after planning on dissolving the Knesset. In a separate incident on Friday, a Palestinian man was shot dead by Israeli police after an alleged stabbing attack on two Israelis in the Old City of East Jerusalem. The Al-Aqsa Mosque, located inside the 35-acre compound, is referred to as al-Haram al-Sharif, or the Noble Sanctuary, by Muslims, and as the Temple Mount by Jews. The compound’s Western Wall, known as the Wailing Wall to Jews, is believed to be the last remnant of the Second Temple, while Muslims refer to it as al-Buraq Wall and believe it is where the Prophet Muhammad tied al-Buraq, the animal upon which he ascended to the sky and spoke to God. The area has always been closed to Jews during the last 10 days of Ramadan, when large numbers of Muslim worshippers stay at the site. “The police really aren’t giving any explanation as to why they made this decision,” Al Jazeera’s Fawcett said. “The police spokesman is merely saying that access to non-Muslims was allowed today as it is on any normal day” but didn’t acknowledge the Israeli holiday or that it was the end of Ramadan. The last time when Jerusalem Day coincided with the end of Ramadan in 1988, the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound was closed to Jews. Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVIzCOzFzGE?si=U7bwqyEk_lQlmCjj

Israeli occupation forces continue to mistreat Palestinian detainees, subjecting them to abuse until the moment of their release. These photos reveal conditions inside Ketziot Prison, located in southern occupied Palestine. Located in the Negev desert, about 72 kilometers southwest of Beersheba, Ketziot—also known as Ktzi’ot Prison—is one of the most notorious detention facilities operated by Israeli authorities. It is the largest Israeli prison by land area, spanning more than 400,000 square meters. Credit: @belalkh

German police have raided the home of prominent author and politician Jurgen Todenhoefer because of his social media posts criticizing Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu and comparing Israeli actions to those of Nazi Germany. Todenhoefer’s phones and digital devices were confiscated. “A German court is now taking action against me because I harshly criticized Netanyahu and [German Chancellor Olaf] Scholz,” Todenhoefer said, adding, “This is a frontal attack on freedom of expression.” Since October 7, 2023, Germany has passed a swath of laws aimed at criminalizing dissent against Israel and supporting Palestine.

Israel ordered the deportation of 32 foreign activists on Wednesday for their support to olive-harvesting Palestinians against settler violence in the occupied West Bank. A statement by Interior Minister Yariv Levin and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said the activists will be deported over suspicion of affiliation with “Union of Agricultural Work Committees,” a non-governmental organization that supports Palestinian farmers, during a protest last week. A 99-year entry ban has also been imposed on the activists, the statement said, without specifying the nationalities of the activists. The deportation order came upon a request from Yossi Dagan, the head of the Settlements Council in the northern West Bank. The Tel Aviv soccer derby between Hapoel and Maccabi was canceled on Sunday after what police described as “public disorder and violent riots.” The Israeli Premier League match was due to be played at Bloomfield Stadium, which is shared by the two Tel Aviv rivals, but videos on social media showed fans clashing with police both inside and outside the area. In a statement Sunday, Israel Police said that 12 civilians and three police officers were injured in the unrest, with nine people arrested. Authorities said a further 16 people were detained for questioning. Footage released by police showed pyrotechnics and smoke grenades being thrown from the stands before kickoff, and police said the decision to cancel the match was made due to “endangerment of human life.” Footage released by police showed pyrotechnics and smoke grenades being thrown from the stands before kickoff, and police said the decision to cancel the match was made due to “endangerment of human life.” However, Hapoel criticized the police response in a statement Sunday, saying it “already seemed that the police were preparing for a war, not for a sporting event.” “The shocking events outside the stadium, and the rash and scandalous decision not to hold the game, only demonstrate that Israel Police have taken control of the sport,” Hapoel said. Maccabi has not commented on the incident, only to confirm the match had been canceled by police. CNN Sports has reached out to Israel Police and Maccabi for comment. The scenes come after Maccabi fans were banned by local authorities in England from attending a Europa League game at Aston Villa next month because of security concerns. West Midlands Police said in a statement that it had deemed the match to be high risk “based on current intelligence and previous incidents” and that it agreed with the decision by local authorities. The ban preventing fans from attending next month’s match triggered condemnation from many politicians, sports organizations and Jewish groups, who have since tried to reverse the decision. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the police decision was “wrong” and added that the “the role of the police is to ensure all football fans can enjoy the game, without fear of violence or intimidation.” On Monday, a spokesperson for Downing Street said Starmer was doing “everything in his power to give Jewish communities the security they deserve.” “We recognise the concerns raised by police due to previous incidents in Europe, and of course, acknowledge events over the last few days, and we condemn any violent behaviour,” the spokesperson added, when asked about the violent outbreaks in Tel Aviv on Sunday. “We understand the UK Football Policing Unit are reaching out to their Israeli counterparts to gain an understanding what happened at last night’s match in Tel Aviv.” Maccabi fans had also been targeted and involved in violent scenes last year when their team played Dutch side Ajax in Amsterdam. A last-minute plan by Donald Trump to invite Benjamin Netanyahu to a multinational Gaza summit in Egypt had to be aborted after the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, said he would not land his plane in Sharm el-Sheikh if the invitation stood. The mid-air power struggle started after it was announced that the Israeli prime minister had accepted a late invitation from Trump to the conference being jointly chaired by the US president and his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, in Egypt. Netanyahu’s presence at the summit in Sharm el-Sheikh had apparently been sealed by Trump in a phone call from Israel on Monday morning with Sisi. World leaders sign Gaza ceasefire deal – video 1:04 World leaders sign Gaza ceasefire deal – video It is not clear if Erdoğan’s refusal to land for the summit was the cause of Netanyahu changing his plans, but it is known that he spoke to Sisi to raise his objections from his plane above Egypt. A statement from the Israeli prime minister’s office said: “Prime Minister Netanyahu was invited by US President Trump to participate in a conference taking place today in Egypt. The prime minister thanked President Trump for his invitation but stated that he would not be able to attend due to the proximity of the event to the start of the holiday.” Figures on the extreme right in Netanyahu’s coalition government had also threatened to resign if he went to the conference. International criminal court arrest warrants have been issued against Netanyahu for alleged war crimes in Gaza, and while Egypt is not a signatory to the court, his presence at the summit would have been contentious, including among those Arab states that have not normalised relations with Israel. More than 20 world leaders were due to attend the hastily arranged summit. The row about Netanyahu’s presence shows how hard it will be for some Muslim countries to normalise relations with Israel in the way Trump wants. Pictures of Erdoğan negotiating with Netanyahu or shaking hands with the Israeli leader would have been disastrous for the Turkish leader domestically, and would have also led to questions about Ankara’s planned role in the international stabilisation force that is due to look after security in Gaza. Erdoğan has repeatedly called Israel’s actions in Gaza a genocide

The Israeli military has killed at least six Palestinians in two incidents in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, as a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas entered its fifth day. Health authorities said at least five people died when Israeli drones opened fire on people returning to their homes in Shujaiya neighbourhood. The Israeli military claimed "suspects" had crossed a line marking Israeli-controlled territory in the Palestinian enclave. The military has told Palestinians not to approach areas in Gaza it controls during the ceasefire but after two years of war and displacement, people have been eager to return home.
