As a web developer, I rely on timely and dependable hosting providers to deliver client projects smoothly. Unfortunately, my recent experience with a Nigerian hosting company, HostNowNow, was deeply disappointing — both for me and my client. I’m sharing this story to warn other developers, freelancers, and business owners in Nigeria so they can make informed decisions when choosing a hosting provider. What Happened? On June 12, 2025, I made full payment to HostNowNow for a domain and hosting package (Robin Hosting) on behalf of a client. The domain name withheld for privacy reasons The goal was to launch a new author website urgently and the domain never propagated. I followed up with their support team the next day (June 13) via email and chat. ________________________________________ Delayed Support and Escalation Despite several follow-ups, there was no resolution after more than one week. Eventually, they acknowledged the issue and told me the delay was “due to problems with the registry.” This delay affected my client’s timeline and damaged my professional credibility. After repeated pressure, I received this message from their support team: “We have escalated the refund request to the billing department... our refund can be fully processed between 7 and 14 working days.” ________________________________________ Why This Is Unacceptable • No domain or hosting delivery after full payment. • Poor communication and vague timelines. • A refund delay of up to 14 working days (i.e., 3 weeks!) for a service they never delivered. This is not just bad service — it’s unprofessional and damaging, especially for developers like me who depend on uptime and trust. ________________________________________ What I’m Doing About It • I’ve filed a formal request for a refund. • I’m monitoring their response within the 14-day window. If unresolved, I will escalate to the FCCPC (Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission). • I’m sharing my experience on public platforms to protect others from similar setbacks. Final Thoughts There are many hosting providers in Nigeria and globally. Choose one that respects your time, your money, and your business. Based on my experience: I do not recommend HostNowNow for developers or businesses who require reliability and timely service delivery. If you’ve had similar experiences, I encourage you to speak up. Let’s help clean up Nigeria’s web hosting ecosystem — together. ________________________________________ Joshua Sunday Web Developer |
