What would happen if a governor in Nigeria with backing of a state House of assembly, launched a state police network operating exclusively within the boundaries of the state and answers to the governor?

Nothing will happen apart from the north sponsoring some evil against the state to prove a point.

Nothing will happen but however, its only the south west and South South that can do it for now and the the South East would insist on forming theirs because the other Southern states have similar structure before the north central state and other states can follow suit.

Now, because of the insecurity in the Southern state and closely examined, the same partner and way insecurity started in the Northern states(North West and North East), the state government (legislative and executive arm) can set up state security(state police) using the North state's as reference and also, drag the Federal government to court for failing to perform their constitutional responsibilities, that is if the Federal government object to the innovative, maybe claiming it is unconditional (this can not even happen because the state legislative and executive have such powers to make it constitutional and also, can sight the obvious case of responsibility of the Federal government to provide security for it citizenry, which is one of its constitutional duties)

Now, if the South East first try to set up theirs, the Federal government would use every machinery within and even outside it purview to quash it out.

However, there most be a strong institution that must be setup by the Federal government to monitor the state security outfit to check for excesses and abuse of power and such State would be financially sanctioned, this can also, serve as a source of revenue generation for the federal government
However, because of the peculiar nature of the South West and South South to the unity and continuous existence of the country Nigeria, the Federal government would be very careful in applying any show of force and might and also, trade of word's

FG will meet the state in court.
Even any state or any region can pass laws for self-determination as long as assemblies endorse it. But many of politicians are traitors, cowards, greedy and selfish.

Hisbah can prosecute in shariah court . Amotekun cannot prosecute in any court. They would still hand over suspects to police authority. I don't take Amotekun serious again.I am expecting Amotekun to have barracks, training schools and power to prosecute criminals without passing through police.

That's exactly what am driving at.
A state police arrest a criminal and prosecute that criminal according to the state laws without handing over the criminal to federal police

Can't our governors create such kind of police force that can operate without federal interruption.

They can do it. But they are cowards, greedy, myopic and selfish. I just read UN declaration on self-determination, FG cannot win state on such matter of selfself-determination.

For example, if a state police was created to be answerable to the state governor alone, then what will happen during elections? Especially since we both know that Nigeria is filled with do-or-die politicians who will stop at nothing to rule forever. But make I leave that one like that.


Consider this other disadvantage : Marginalization of non- indigenes of that state: for example, we all know Nigeria's is tribalistic and that the average Nigerian is conscious of it. So just imagine you, being a foreigner in another part of the country, and you got into a dispute with an indigene. Do you think your dispute will be given justice and a fair hearing by the state police(who are probably indigenes of that place)?

I could go on and on, but one thing we need understand is this: in order to create a state police system that will work, there is need to introduce a sort of check and balance system that can overide the authority of a state governor's power when things seems to be biased.

Everyone in the the state would end up paying about 40% to 50% of their salaries and income as taxes to fund the police force.


All state roads would be tolled to fund the.police force too

All farmers would pay.higher taxes top to fund the police

its the same thing i am still saying, just because i use south east, south south or south west those not change anything, the individual states are all in the various zones or region.

please the state police should be answerable to the institution Government (the three arms) and the federal regulatry body and not the governor alone, to stop abuse of power

Nigerian Fire Arms Act of 1990 already spelt out each fire arms each level of security architecture can possess, if state Government provide all this with their security votes then FG has nothing to say
