The saddest thing about this FG is that can turn a saint into a demon in the eyes of the public; See how this pretty damsel, Zanaib, has made mockery of simple economics by saying

“We do recognise that there will be some increased hardships on a segment of the society. But we are looking at how to address that,’’

Go through history, any hike in fuel, no matter how slight it may be, affects every segment of the Nigeria economy.
So Ma, am so sorry that your pretty face does not tally with your narrow economics. Its not your faulty though, i sincerely sympathize with you.

Sai Baba!!! 4+4= Your suffering will increase hundred fold. You cannot afford subsidy, but you are willing to squander 1.5 billion dollars on a defunct refinery which you still plan on selling even after your fake 1.5 billion refurbishment!
Please, are these people just born fools or are they the greatest scammers the world has ever known? It's got to be one of those two things.

We are losing billions of naira monthly to subsidy. Not to say the billions lost due to people smuggling fuel to neighboring countries to sell above 300 naira per liter.

Also decades of subsidy have left our refineries not making enough profit to maintain themselves.

Plus the oil we depend on has been chronically low since 2014. We need oil at $133 PER barrel to earn enough cash for our needs without borrowing. Oil has been falling since 2014...and we have had to take loans to stay afloat as a result.

Either government does like the Canadians, and raises money by taxing every available Nigerian...heavily...to raise funds for subsidisng fuel...or we remove subsidy

The sad thing is that in 2012, when we had a chance to remove subsidies completely, most of us said NO. APC then too said no. Now they have woken up to their folly.

Yes, this government is bad, but Nigeria cannot afford a subsidy. Let the market set the prices, so that profits can be made to build new refinereis, and sustain exisiting ones...and knock down prices via competiton

When you refused with Ojota protest, how did she maneuver the challenge while retaining N97?...

By spending 4 trillion naira over 5 years to subsidize fuel...via NNPC.

Even then, the subsidy money was not enough, by 2013, most parts of Nigeria were selling fuel above 100 naira.

I honestly want fuel price to hit N2000 per litre. All these small small boys that will not let someone sleep because of loud music and generator noise will finally rest. By the time you spend 30k on fuel in two days your eyes will clear

This government is confused,at the earliest inception of APC subsidy was said to have been removed, there was even solidarity protests held by hypocritical APC supporters little did we know that subsidy is still being paid in what they later termed "underrecovery".

Price hike is inevitable because we base every thing governance and the economy on free oil money.
If removed and crude price increase, the marketers will adjust accordingly and increase it. I'd the govt decides to subsidize it, governance suffers and the masses aren't left out.

the govt is just playing the masses
this was how the king of england introduced taxation that the world uses today
they fooled the masses that it was a few rich that were enjoying taxation....let it be to all...and the rich will suffer,,,,today the rich dont pay or pay little tax.....while the poor is taxed in the highest tax bracket

They shouldn't even think of hiking fuel price. Else we know how to disgrace them for the world to see how dumb they make decisions.

The country had the golden opportunity to deregulate the price of petrol at the height of global pandemic but Buhari blew it spectacularly when price of crude oil sank to practically nothing. No one would have noticed the deregulation as the petrol price was lower than the fixed price.

He instead voted for price fixing and now the oil price has risen, there's a return of the subsidy and perennial plans to deregulate the price. Complete nonsense.

Funny people.

They had budgeted to sell crude at $40 per barrel. Now crude is $64 per barell yielding an extra $24. I have not heard that they are reducing borrowing as a result of the more than 50% increase in projected revenue. So why cant they take out of the $24 dollars to cushion the effect of the increase in fuel price? Or they want to eat it alone as usual?

Ignore them.

They are crooks.

They always assume the masses are all illiterate.
