My name is Chukwuebuka Anisiobi and I am the winner of the very first spelling bee contest held in 2001. I attended the Maryland Comprehensive High School in Ikeja I represented my school at the local government level of the spelling bee competition which was actually a science quiz. I won the science competition and this qualified me to represent my local government at the district level of the grand finale of the spelling bee competition.

I won a grand prize of N100 which was kept in a trust for me until I turned 18. After winning the competition, I acted as a "one day Governeor" of Lagos State and I was also sponsored on an exhcange trip to Finland for five weeks.

Mrs Remi Tinubu has remained very close to me well after winning the competition. I received a scholarship from her foundation- The New Era Foundation for my university education. I also got a recommendation from Mrs. Tinubu which helped me secure admission at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife where I was admitted to study Computer engineering.

She also personally attended leadership summits I organized as president of Junior Chamber International, a non-governmental organisation in the Obafemi Awolowo University. She donated money to help sponsor an indigent child- Miss. Kafayat Abidogun from primary school up to university. She also attended my graduation ceremony at the Obafemi Awolowo University.

I also accompanied Mrs. Tinubu on official trips to the Ministry of Education and Sports to meet the respective Ministers to discuss the possibility of making some initiatives of the New Era Foundation- The spelling bee and wheel chair tennis competition, nation- wide competitions.

DESPITE despicable acts by some unpatriotic Nigerians, particularly youths, to dent the nation’s image before the international community, some youths are still striving to change the narrative by flying the country’s flag in a positive light.

One of them is 22-year-old Lilian Ogbuefi, who is being recognised in the US and other countries for her outstanding performance. In this interview, she attributes her emergence into limelight to the opportunity she got as the ONE-DAY Governor of Lagos State, in 2012 and therefore calls on corporate organisations and governments to focus more on creating platforms that will assist youths to develop themselves.
