Why is it that our people cannot describe public projects without using the words Biggest, Largest, Longest, Ultra modern? They will be like "Ultra modern Gutter" Ultra modern Markets. And these are open markets filled with Potopoto.

The Joint Committee on Aviation of the National Assembly has commended Governor Willie Obiano for the level of work at the ongoing Anambra Cargo and International Airport.

Members of the Committee including, Hon. Smart Adeyemi, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, Senator Uche Ekwunife, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, Hon. Chinedu Obidigwe, and others visited the airport for inspection with Governor Willie Obiano and his wife.

On arrival, it was gathered that the tower is ninety percent completed, the apron is completed, the runway is ninety seven percent completed, while the terminal building is ninety seven percent completed, as well as the taxi ways which is ninety seven percent completed.

The committe members who assured that they will assist the state government to achieve the vision of making the airport functional quickly, expressed optimism that the airport will become viable, being the largest airport in Nigeria, after Lagos state.

U see how solid that road IDENNA is showing u pple? That's how roads in d east should look like..u see the atmosphere too? It's beautiful because of its green flora..everywhere na trees and beautiful grasses. Its even a shame your gov who has gone abroad and lives there can't even do same for his pple back home. The only state I have visited in the past and has shown a Lil bit of d western world looks is in Calabar,Cross River State..d gov who built the city to look so good then tried..though it is still not perfect.

The Federal Government has taken over the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport in Kebbi, Alhaji Abubakar Ladan, the state Commissioner for Works and Transport, has said.

Ladan who made the disclosure to newsmen on Thursday in Birnin Kebbi said the airport had not been sold to any private individual, contrary to rumour.

“There is no iota of truth in the rumour going around that the state government is planning to sell the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport to a private individual.

“All the airports in the country are in the exclusive list. There is no way any state government can convert them as their own or sell them to individuals,’’ the commissioner said.

Ladan explained that the federal government had taken over 10 of such airports after their completion by state governments.

He said: “The airports include those of Ekiti, Gombe, Anambra, Nassarawa, Kebbi, Jigawa, Ebonyi and Benue States, among others.

“I don’t know how the story came about that the airport (Sir Ahamdu Bello International Airport) had been sold.

“Who was it sold to? I want to use this occasion to tell you the true story of the airport.

“The aviation sector is in the exclusive list and any state that wants to construct an airport must get a clear approval from the federal government.

“So, once you construct the airport, you only have the manager, but the technical crew handling the airport is the federal government’s staff and those of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

“You do not have the right to regulate the airport. We only agreed to allow the federal government to take over the airport because of management issue and other things.

“It is not the issue of sales; the federal government took over the airport of Kebbi State and we demanded that the amount we used to construct it be refunded to the state.’’

The commissioner said that President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the refund in March 2020.

According to him, the letter sent to the state said that the president had approved the refund of N16 billion to the state government, being the amount spent to construct the airport.

“The process of refunding the money is still on and as soon as the 2021 budget is implemented, the state government will be refunded,’’ Ladan added.

There must be a clause that allows the state to kick out the investor id the land is misused or project becomes unduly delayed in kicking off or completion. To avoid an ugly situation of signing off that high value area to a 419 gig like they did for the Onitsha hotel. Where the dude promised to deliver and absconded soon after.

Utmost caution must be taken to ensure quality world-class development of a true airport city around the place. Than allowing vicious land speculators to build hundreds of face me i face you, and thousands of ugly lock up shops to convert the area into another market.
