oga, even if obiano finishes all the roads in akwa and onitsha, other adjoining areas will spring up and hence there will be many more bad roads to fix. the structure of Nigeria (revenue sharing and indeginious resource development) ensures that no state can develop at the rate Dubai or china did.
since the federal government has cornered most income to themselves, governor's have to be smart to earn income and attract FDI ,- that'l necessitated the Anambra airport, the only true world-class airport in the East and a standard for posterity .

if mbakwe was much maligned and insulted during his time ,who is obiano to escape such- but write this down, posterity will judge Obiano fairly for this project.
Personally my greatest joy in this is that he has proven to the SE that we can actualise our dreams without waiting for the federal government.

It hasn't proven anything other than waste of funds. Every airport built by state government in Nigeria has proven to be mediocre and a money loser. Asaba airport, Dutse Airport even the much vaunted Owerri Airport.

As for roads, they have gotten worse under Wilberforce and all the insecurity in the state is because he has encouraged touting in motor parks on the streets and in front of markets in the name of IGR. Go to Enugu or Abakaliki you will not see the collapse of roads and touts like you see in Onitsha of Awka.

Another riveting interview with Chief Allen Onyema of Air Peace.

He mentioned how his airline managed to keep its head above the water while some others are either struggling or folding up. They've just taken delivery of the second of the 13 Embraer aircraft they ordered, while the third is expected in about two weeks time. He mentioned his main reason for setting up the airline was to employ Nigerians and not for profit, hence the coy has rehired all the staff laid off due to the pandemic and reestablished pre-pandemic pay for all staff. When asked about the competition like Ethiopian, he said Air peace snapping on their heels...that Ethiopian Airlines has just over hundred aircraft since establishment more than sixty years ago, while Air Peace that was established a few years ago (can't remember the exact year) now has over forty. He mentioned how Air Peace was hired by the Israeli, Chinese and other gov'ts during the height of the lockdown to repatriate their nationals, and how the airline helped repatriate Nigerians trapped abroad pro-bono.

I hope he makes good on his promise for Air Peace to establish a presence at Anambra int'l. I also hope the airline builds a befitting corporate headquarters along the airport road too.

which enterprise managed by corrupt Nigerian government officials makes money?.........if Nigeria can run a cash cow like NNPC into the ground I shudder at the mess they have made of the airport/aviation sector. A knowledgeable management will run the airport profitably, Anambra state has started well by building a modest-sized terminal, they can expand their revenue base by adding jet fuel depots, cargo terminal, executive or general aviation terminal, aviation school to train our pilots, short stay hotels and motels, food courts and even a park/golf course .........that is if they can raise the funds.

Private companies can build airports in Nigeria. Only MMA2 has been run by private sector because traffic is very low in Nigeria and aviation lives on low margins.

Anambra minus the blinders of patriotism does not need an airport when 2 are less than 60 km from either Awka or Onitsha. The airport in Asaba has not transformed Asaba nor Onitsha which it is close to it not has Owerri airport transformed Owerri.

Calabar is a warning of the danger of white elephant projects one cannot maintain. The airport is in decline, Tinapa is dead and the government is neck deep in debt.

Anambra should have dedicated that 40 billion or whatever it will cost to make its cities look and feel like cities. No decent wide avenues in either Onitsha or Awka in 2021. No water supply. 10x10 shops, wheelbarrows and Keke touts everywhere. Find me just one decent street in Awka that is wide like Okpara Avenue or Rangers or planned like Independence Layout.

Showcasing a federal expressway is fake marketing. What has Anambra govt built in its so-called capital city? Zik Avenue is an old road and federal expressay. Iweka Road is an old road. Awka Road in Onitsha, New Market Road, Iweka Road, aall roads that preceded the formation of the state. Truth is they have built NOTHING. Instead the villagers occupying government house agu-awka have built rural roads like the primitive people that they are. No roads for the capital or commercial city but roads to towns and villages where Abakaliki, Enugu and Hausa people are doing caretaker for peoples house.

Mktinsight, the best option for you right now is to use sniper. You have tried everything you could just to confuse people about the airport but you failed woefully and it has been built, not just built but to an international standard.

Yes, Anambra international airport shall advance the economy of Anambra

Yes, Anambra international airport is gonna expand businesses in Anambra

Yes, Anambra has the best road networks in the entire eastern region.

Does Enugu or Abakaliki have portable drinking water? No
Does Enugu or Ebonyi states have better roads, amenities, than Anambra? NO

Does Enugu not have touts, keke, 2x2 shops, wheelbarrows, thugs, causing nuisance everywhere from old park to holy ghost to Abakpa to Emene and indeed the entire enugu town.

Awka Millennium City is the best luxury precinct in the entire eastern region and not even your overhyped backward Enugu comes close. Awka Millennium city has well paved roads and covered drains, do you have one covered drain in your enugu? NO

Mktinsight, stop wasting your time because you shall keep failing flat here, you can never have your demonic way on this thread.

Anambra international airport as the international gateway to the east has come to stay and Anambra is the best state in the entire eastern region. Go home and cry your heart out but Anambra shall continue to remain on top in all spheres of development.

Stop thinking you are smart because you aren't. Anambra is building infrastructures everywhere, that's why the state has the best road networks than any state in the entire region. Esther Obiakor is equivalent to Ogui road, Zik Avenue is equivalent to Okpara Avenue.

Yes, Awka, Onitsha, has decent road networks. Infact these below pictures are some of the urban roads in Awka city, please show us any road as wide and decent as this in the entire Enugu capital. None.

All your lying propaganda posts here was because your evil mission about the airport has failed. Now we have the airport, you have been pulling all sorts of materials from your a.nus to discredit the airport project but you have kept failing. Mktinsight it is time for you to tell your pay master that you met a stiff resistance here. Anambra leads cheesy

Awka, Anambra State Capital’s Commercial Paradise

The Architecture and Infrastructure of a Confused Awka major thoroughfare, Zik Avenue, Awka, Anambra State.

That people are confused is a common saying in Nigerian communitiesand saying that most of the Nigerian cities are confused may confuse more people, but it is true (Anetoh, 2014).. During the days of the colonial masters in Nigeria, cities urban environments were more orderly organized and managed although, one may argue that urbanization was not as radical as it is today. Today, the cities are overcrowded, congested and lacked adequate commercial and market facilities for the expanding population. It is also arguable that it resulted in pedestrian walkways in almost all the cities been commercialized. The roads, buildings and business signs are in disarray.

For years, Awka stood out as a metaphor for all that could possibly go wrong with Anambra. After 23 years of playing host to the government of the most illustrious people in black Africa, Awka was reluctant to shed its overcast outlook of a semi urban town with a mishmash of mostly residential buildings jutting out of green areas and no hint of a distinct skyline. Awka had no promise of ever transmuting to urbanity, no obvious aspirations to greatness. This is in stark contrast to the well-known industrious nature of Awka indigenes whose ancestors are famous in all of Igboland for their prowess in metallurgical productions and blacksmithry. Meanwhile, right across the Niger in neighboring Delta State, Asaba , a town that became an administrative seat at the same time as Awka is in full bloom. As successive administrations came and went without any landmarks, inhabitants of the town lost all hopes of any real modern changes in the landscape. So many conspiracy theories were woven to explain the seemingly endless neglect of Awka by different administrations. Some people blamed Awka‟s increasingly sorry state on the reluctance of the indigenes to work in harmony with any government. Others argues that they are reluctant to cede their lands for developmental purposes. But the opposing views argue that it was the government that failed to demonstrate good faith by assuring the indigenes of a compensation package that is commensurate to the land they were willing to cede. Whatever was the true account, the outcome was a damning verdict on Awka. It remained trapped in its utter lack of ambition –an avoidable stillbirth. The irony here is that while Awka stagnated, the rest of Anambra bloomed -especially the smaller towns (Chyjosky, 2014). Awka has steadily grown, but in a negative direction. Awka like most Nigerian cities is defined by large rudimentary open-air markets where everything from basic food produce to clothes, cosmetics and household items are sold.

The famous Awka‟s Zik Avenue still grows negatively, congested and out of character for a city looking to identify and to match Dubia both in architecture and tourism(plates 13 to 16). The architecture and infrastructure of Awka‟s Zik Avenue are deplorable and mostly in disrepair. There is absolutely zero pedestrian right-of-way on that thoroughfare. The sidewalks have been converted into commercial alleys. The worst of the area‟s commercial alleys resulted from fraudulent city employees and touts parading the avenue with utmost impunity, arrogance and indiscriminately extorting money from poor sidewalk traders and allowing them to stay at the detriment of the area‟s upright growth and development, detrimental to the area‟s architecture and infrastructure.

Mktinsight read about the slum called Enugu. Almost 80% of Enugu is slum: from Obiagu to Ogui, Asata, Abakpa, Emene, Ugwuaji, Gariki, Amevh road road, Agbani road, Coal camp, Ngenevu, Ugbo odogwu, Iva valley, etc, I can go on and on because slum settlements are almost endless in Enugu.

A Critical Evaluation of the Enugu slum, Nigeria

Keywords: Inner–City Squatting, Peri-Urban Squatting, Slum
Abstract
The high rental value of core city areas has always influenced the formation of slums at the peripheries or outskirts of towns and cities of the developing world. However, a peculiar inner-city slum that has persisted over the years is the Ogui slum in Enugu, Nigeria. This paper tried to identify the factors that has made this inner-city slum to persist. One factor that has acted as a boost for others to thrive is the indigenous dwellers’ hold on land. The other factors include the centrality of the slum in the town and its close proximity to various schools, markets and places of work. However, the unprecedented influx of people into Enugu in the early 1970’s overstretched the existing facilities in the city and turned the indigenous land of Ogui into a slum. The paper went on to give recommendations on how to effect renewal schemes for the study area. Critical to this effort is the employment of public participation in the process as being emphasized by the Urban Management Programmes (UMP) of the UN – Habitat projects. More critical to the renewal effort will be the prompt payment of adequate compensation to indigenes for lands acquired for the programme.

NCAA has spoken

Anambra International Airport Gets High Rating from NCAA
editorMarch 25, 2021 10:15 Am
The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captian Musa Nuhu has described the Anambra International Cargo/Passenger Airport, Umueri as one of the best airports in Nigeria.

The civil aviation boss, who inspected the facilities at the fast rising airport, said he was amazed at the elaborate, carefully planned and masterfully executed facilities at the new airport.

Speaking after the tour, Nuhu said that the impressive array of facilities at Anambra airport had left him amazed and speechless.

“I am amazed, almost speechless at the level of work, and the level of compliance with our regulatory requirements and also with international standards and recommended practices,” he declared, pointing out that his tour of the airport had given him a clear view of what the Obiano’s administration had achieved with the project.

“We have gone round the airport. We have a runway of 3.7kilometers with a runway safety area on both ends of the airport of about 1000 meters. “There’s no airport in Nigeria that has a racer area of 1000 meters at both ends of the runway.”

“With two taxiways. We have gone to the tower, the control tower is amazing certainly if not one of the best control towers in Nigeria today,” Nuhu observed.

Speaking further, Nuhu said, “we have seen the fire service station. Amazing. It’s going to be a CAT 955 firefighting station which will allow big planes and international flights to be landing and taking off here once flight resumes.”

According to him, the water treatment plant is amazing.

“It takes care of the need of not only the airport but also of the firefighting service. We have seen the emergency evacuation center, trauma center in case, God forbid, anything happens. There’s arrangement to deal with any eventuality. I have seen the operational fence, I have seen the perimeter fence, significantly done or almost completed. And in the vehicle earlier today, I had said that ‘Anambra means business.’ And I mean it when I say Anambra means business.”

Nuhu further emphasised that everything about the airport was perfect, pointing out that the consultants to the government of Anambra State on the project had done a great job.

“It is obvious when this airport is completed, it is going to be a significant enabler of the economy and growth of this area, the state and the surrounding states here. So, at this point I congratulate the governor for this legacy project,” he concluded.

Where's the cursed demonic night owl called mktinsight

Come and read post from major PDP gubernatorial candidates about the Anambra international airport.

Anambra remains the best state in igbo land cool

AZUBOGU ON ANAMBRA CARGO AIRPORT

One of the questions people keep on asking me while I seek the mandate of our people on the November 6 Governorship election, has always been what is my position on the ongoing Anambra Airport Project?

I have always maintained, that the Airport project is already ongoing and Governor Obiano has stated that it will be ready within the year. So the issue of whether Anambra State needs an airport or not has been defeated since the airport is already here with us.

For me, the next thing for us is to focus on how to create thriving economic activities that will attract traffic to the airport and make it more viable.

If elected the governor of Anambra State by God's grace, we will focus on putting Infrastructure that will advance our quest to lead in the manufacturing sector and exportation of goods from Anambra State through the Airport and thereby making it viable.

Anambra State will also pursue the Agro-processing hub project within the Omambala area, which will add value to our Airport too.

Again, opening all the access roads to the Airport and connecting all corners of the State with a good road network to make the Airport more accessible, will be pursued.

Through Intergovernmental relations, we will collaborate with other neighbouring states and Federal Government to construct Anambra/Kogi road via Anambra West LGA and Anambra/Enugu road via Ayamelum LGA, this will make the Airport easily accessible also to make the airport also accessible to people from neighbouring part of Kogi and Enugu states.

We will also dualize Nkwelle-Ezunaka 33 Road from the back of Onitsha GRA to Aguleri junction, which will reduce gridlock and give road users multiple options.

The general focus is to stimulate strong economic activities that will fuel aviation transportation activities through the state Airport.

As for the pictures I have seen so far from the airport site, I am impressed.

I took this picture in The Woodlands yesterday , while driving. Behind those trees that line up the streets are many homes. This is where your governor Obiano lives. He bought a house in this neighborhood after he became a governor. I will post more pictures so that you can see how seriously tree planting are taken in other climes.

I also want to point out the wickedness of the Nigerian ruling class. They love to live in places like this but they trash their own fatherland.

Trees do more than just beautify a city....without trees there won't be photosynthesis and without photosynthesis you won't have oxygen to breathe into your lungs.

I do not know what motivates your vehement hostility towards this commendable airport project but you still come across as a smart and enlightened individual, I will not disregard all your arguments entirely, there is a real danger that some well-placed politicians and civil servants may see the airport as an opportunity to amass unearned wealth.

i insist that a good manager will be able to run the airport at a small profit, once the management can avoid a bloated workforce and ghost workers syndrome. Yes, there is an opportunity cost to the project but the cost of construction is actually a sunk cost and the airport is not a gargantuan edifice that will swallow millions of dollars in overheads. I live in Indiana and the main airport is run 100% on solar energy, public power is just on standby, that is massive cost savings furthermore the airport can raise funds on indoor and more critically on exterior advertisement............the express road medians can be used for adverts and the streelights poles on the median can be used for same advert purpose as well.

The Woodlands.

People live in this village and behind those pines and oaks there are houses and businesses. Guess what ? Obiano love this place but look at Anambra major roads.

In 8 years he has not built a single two or three lane road in either Awka or Onitsha. Before anyone mentions Esther Obiakor. It was started under Obi.

Obiano reconstructed this six lanes road in Awka, the biggest road in SE, among other roads in Onitsha and Awka. Your lies cannot fly anymore

This is the difference:

Indianapolis CITY Budget: 1.3 billion USD
Indiana STATE Budget: 38 billion USD
Anambra STATE Budget: 320 million USD

Indiana Airport: 9. 4 million passengers a year
Owerri + Enugu + Asaba: 1 million passengers

Our priority should be good roads and power production. Build the airport later not now.

LOL Stop crying mktinsight, because Anambra international airport has arrived. Owerri and Enugu should be shut down because they didn't meet the minimum standards. All the SE states should start using the international airport in Anambra.

Again you have no such standing to tell all the wise men in Anambra what project to build or not to build. Anambra has the best road networks in the region. Now Anambra has got the best international airport. Mktinsight you have failed once again. cheesy

Listen to NCAA

You are a big liar. That road was even there before Obi. Your paymaster built NOTHING other than half of the expressway between Amawbia and Juhel junction and those ramps he calls flyover.
Re: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by custainmowole: 2:32pm On Mar 26, 2021
Useless lying frustrated bitter vagabond. The road was not there because it led to no where. It was Obiano that reconstructed and linked it to Esther Obiakor dual carriageways that he equally reconstructed. Obiano equally constructed 3 gleaming beautiful FLYOVERS. Today Awka is the fastest developing city in Nigeria aside Abuja. Cry more for me cheesy

He only needs to watch this video. If i were the other Southeast governors, i would call all my commissioners and ask them to replicate these programs and achievements in my state. But, you know they won't do it because their peoples' welfare is not their priority.

A state like Ebonyi with very high poverty rate and very poor health outcome indices should be able to copy these ideas to push millions of their people out of poverty and encourage heavy investment in agriculture, real estate and agro-processing industrial clusters in Abakaliki and Afikpo.

Thank you nwanne for the expository video. Thank goodness these works were recorded. Obiano did wonders in all sectors of state. And now he has crowned it with international airport, ICC and stadium.

Mktinsight has a mental problem, so he thought he could deceive everyone here with his idiotic propaganda and lies.

Mktinsight is an evil minded creature that's on a mission to confuse people here about the Anambra airport and still go ahead to hail Umahi for the same airport project. He knows that the international airport in Anambra is a major game changer unlike in Ebonyi that has zero need for such project, so their mission was to discredit the project even before construction started but they failed. But I am happy today because the project has been built to their shame.
