Yeah. Just like both faiths are in partnership when corruption is involved... Like kperogi said , they should go to National Assembly to repel the law or take it all the way to the Supreme court so we can all give it a rest. |

Christians built and and registered these schools with their own sweat. Muslims are free to wear their hijab in muslim schools built by muslims. In my own case my children cannet attend any school with islamic name, and if they do I have to accept whatever I see there. |

Moblux:Oga. All these professions you listed out will soon come under similar cultural pressures in Nigeria. No one needs a crystal ball to determine that. What we need to begin to do as citizens of this country is to open up channels of negotiations and conflict resolution because as the standard of political governance worsens and society delaminates people will withdraw to religious and cultural fortifications. If we cannot resolve this very simple challenge by negotiation then this country's unity is certainly under threat. |

Grace001:aunty, you think they're not coming to that soon? give them a yard and they'll take a mile. give them hijab in missionary schools and see these fanatics demand for hijab in the military and paramilitary sectors. after all in civil service offices in the North, they have mosque inside and observe their prayers. I stand with these missionary schools. no hijab. take your children to the hijab loving schools. nonsense and religion. |

Farooq assesment is wrong, missionary school provided education beyond just reading and writing , that can be expensive with out state subsidies. ake Ogun State as an example. Ajah’s article shows that “in Abeokuta South Local government, where six schools were said to have been handed over to the original owners by the government, the total school enrolment of these schools in 2008 was 12 663. |

Racoon:I'm always thrilled reading kperogi's unbiased n well thought-out writes up, from the write up it's clear that Giwon in his overzealousness n lack of foresight created the problem that has now turn out to hurt his own faith more, ironically the same Gowon use to go about organising one meaningless "Nigeria prays", now he is too ashamed to speak out, Even though kperogi's suggested solution is very correct it's almost impossible for it to work because the Muslims who were presented with a free opportunity on Gowon"s platter of gold would never let it go peacefully, this should serve as a good lesson to the christians in position of authority who are found of taking decisions without due diligence but are more concerned about their ego n pride only to look stupid in time to come. |

Writer is hideously biased on a Islamic religious path: Let's not become idiots: Freedom of religion does not mean or absolve from civil duties when Uniformity is stipulated. There is a reason it is called: School Uniform, Police Uniform, Military Uniform. The term uniform means you are not meant to be able to distinguish one member from the other through their dressing, for several obvious reasons. School children should be without social class, or religious class, or even intellectual class while in the school environment otherwise, the poor is cheated, or one religion is cheated, or those who are not the smartest are cheated. Human beings are naturally full of prejudices. The same applies to the forces. An officer should not be identified by his or her religion. Otherwise he becomes parochial. If you add hijab to schools, then you should add it to the police, military, Air hostess, fire fighters, prison wardens, Para Medics, Road Safety, etc. They all have same religious rights as muslim school girl. Uniformity, means that any item that is part of the uniform should be acceptable to all. So in an Islamic country air hostess, police, military can all add hijab to their uniform without exception. In a multi-religious and multi-cultural environment like Nigeria, you cannot add such religous things to a Uniform and cite religious freedom. Cause any law that approves such has unitimately destroyed the purpose of the Uniform. Once you create that precidence, anybody can legally add anything to a Uniform and simply identify it as a religious culture. Many are citing American schools, mind you most schools do not operate uniform principle in the US. Kids wear mufti to school, so hijab can't be an exception in such environment. But the british system we operate works on Uniformity. |

Lots of anti Muslim bias. A simple solution is tolerance, refer to a similar situation in Australia, where Christians wore head covering to support their muslins friends. Why would a Christian oppose something as simple as a head covering when even Catholic Christian's cover their head's. It's not like they're wearing burkas that covers their faces. Just a bunch of self serving hypocrites with political agendas. |

you did not even hit the nail of the head, perhaps trying not to please or displease any of the religious set. truth be told, a tenant can never dictate to a landlord how his house will be run...a Muslim came to a Christian missionary school which is public school on paper but still being funded by the missionaried and they said conform to our school rules on uniform....una begin shout. ok let me ask, can the same be ask in a Muslim mission sch? they have never allow a chapel in there premises, not to talk of allowing a C.R.K. teacher..even ordinary fellowship gathering they will not allowed the Christians do..so what are we saying here.... Muslims wahala just tire person form this country, is that how other Muslims behave in other country? no wonder Slovakia ban them n any mosques in there country! |

The article is bullshit. The school is a well run Missionary school. Taking it up by the government to enforce Islamic values and promote Islamic symbols is only inflaming trouble... Can any Muslim school like Ansarudeen, or Hamadiya, be taken over by a Christian government to the extent that Christian cross is allowed on such Ansarudeen schl...will such be allowed by Muslims? This is not a matter of right or religious expression of one student...it's about respect for ones religious institution, culture and preservation of it's norm even in a school. . Respect Christians schools and it's rule...also respect Islamic school and it's rules.....Both models of school are cultural symbols that need not be tampered with or adulterated by opposite religious emblem. It's as simple as that. . If you want a multi-religious expressing school, then you can go to such schools as they are everywhere. Religious culture shd be respected if that's what a school represent |
