Big yikes if that person is teaching you. For starters, you don't cite sources that aren't authorities on a subject. Imagine me wanting to publish a paper on COVID-19 and then I start citing what one John Doe said on Facebook as proof that my research is correct. No matter how convincing it sounds, you don't cite if it's not a peer reviewed source. That's without even paying attention to the way he cited it, or the horrible grammatical errors in that page. Wahala dey for Nigerian education o grin

Just so you know Nairaland is quite popular and it will be disheartening if the first air observed on visiting this platform is the stench of unrestricted tribalism..

I was simply preparing for my exams this morning and decided to peruse through my lecturer's book and to my greatest amusement towards the "godfatherism" subheading I saw him citing Nairaland.

This is bullshît

LordFarquaad ignore those critics. The most important thing is the fact that your lecturer acknowledge Nairaland in his or her work.

The book was not proof-read or your lecturer has to upgrade his grammar.
In just the single page you cited, about 3 grammatical errors. One can thus imagine the number of errors the entire book would contain.
pity the lecturer na

In all honesty, I've never heard of any lecturer who tried this ignoble act in my school, and it's my fourth year here. In fact, after the relevant fees during resumption, you hardly ever get asked for more. Theirs is to make recommendations on books to read, and provide materials based on their course - although a few retain objection to the latter.

I like to believe most other federal institutions practice similar modus operandi.

On sighting this, I said "oh, Chrisjane (or whatever) must be an authority in this field to be cited as a definite source of a definition". It's most unfortunate that the lecturer can't even acknowledge that "Chrisjane (or whatever) is a faceless entity - anyone can be Chrisjane".

The lecturer failed at "basic reasoning" and I can imagine how he would COMPEL his students to buy his evidence of failure.

It doesn't make any sense citing nairaland in a book. I mean, this is a faceless forum and people drop comment they can easily change or remove. Who knows, a comment he cited might have been removed or change. His citation of nairaland doesn't hold water. Nairaland is a merely a forum and not a dump for academic work.

The purpose of citing a work is to enable verification and also allow other researchers to check out that source.
So I should type nairaland.com and be searching for what he said ?
