> Personally, I do NOT care much for these so-called influencers (and the whole celebrity thingy)... But please let’s not treat nor elevate the seemingly inherent anti-influencer bias to the level of CRIMINALITY. I have never heard of this Alex Saab dude until the last few days on Nairaland... But I know that one is not automatically a criminal for pissing off the US govt by supporting the Venezuelan govt. What’s happened here is substantively no different from supporting Alexei Navalny who is a “criminal” to the Russian govt... Nor supporting those in Hong Kong or the minority Uighurs, whom are “criminals” and “terrorists” to the Chinese government. Nigerians do NOT have a dog in this essentially PROPAGANDA dog-fight... Hopefully, these influencers should ask questions (or be more circumspect), but there’s NO CRIMINALITY here! > |

Remaining that Chidinma gal that always ask people to retweet hashtag so they can be chosen for a giveaway. Sadly nobody wins anything. That gal is unrepentant and unapologetic. If I'm Jack I will ban her till afterlife |

thebosstrevor1:You would not be able to Know would you. Obviously this cause has fishy written all over it as there is no direct relationship between Venezuela & Nigeria. However, that's not to say ALL social causes are paid not organic. That counterfeit currencies exist suggests that there is indeed a genuine currency. The same applies to causes. 000s of causes are created daily — many non political. |

thebosstrevor1:Take for instance, Nigeria wins a major competition, like the World Cup. It would definitely trend, will someone pay for that also? |

Nickshrapnel:Fifa do heavy sponsored promotions on twitter. Twitter competitions are held, hastag contests, football contests are all promoted on twitter, infact tv stations, brands all promote the worldcup hagtags, with that the momentum arise to be number 1 on twitter trends all over the world. Nothing is free, twitters gets bulk if its revenue from advertising. |

[s] Vaughanlanrewaj:[/s] Again I strongly caution you to beware what you post online without proof it is unhealthy for your well being. I only admonish I have been watching you for a while make unverified comments on this forum be very very very cautious. Nigeria is not America . Can you boldly stake your well being to say no one died? Or are you just learning Nigeria is a military state where human rights doesn't count ? Are you new to this world ? Where is the ikoyi whistle blower? He is dead if you don't know BE VERY VERY CAREFUL GO HOME STAY OFF THE INTERNET IF YOU ARE ONE PRONE TO CARELESS TALK |

thebosstrevor1: When there is an accident at a particular spot in Lagos and the name of that place trends on Twitter or when there's a fire at Balogun Market and it trends on Twitter, I guess that is also sponsored, right? There's no such thing as an organic trend, right? |

thebosstrevor1:Prince Philip died today, he is number 1 on the trend table right now. Who will pay for that? |

livebyday:Be very very careful with your attempt to defend wrong actions. It will later haunt you when things go far worse.I recieved nothing less than 5 pictures of dead bodies loaded in hilux vans and labelled as people allegedly killed in Lekki on the night of 20th October and early hours of 21st and was the first to scream that these pictures do not add up with the report of Olu Phillips of Channels TV who was right there at the scene in Lekki and interviewing people . These creatives were not created and posted by ghosts and those you perhaps defend. US just proved that these people can be held to account. Nation building is serious business and all it takes for evil to dominate is when good people of conscience keep quiet. It still beggars belief how someone will have the audacity to create fake creatives of dead bodies loaded, hype it online leading to monumental loss of lives and properties and those people are not held to account. I really don't know how you sleep at night with this audacity. We are all stakeholders in this country and we will stay back and make it work! |

Nickshrapnel:Major news network are carrying it...many of these accounts have reputation....and most of their post are promoted for engagement. As i have written before no organic post on twitter trends |
| Re: Nigerian Social Media Influencers Were Paid To Support Alez Saab by Nobody: 4:02pm On Apr 09, 2021 |
naptu2:There has never been a situation where a major nigerian accident became number 1 on twitter trends. And if you watch the Nigerian twitter trends, check the accounts of those posting the trends, they are all verified accounts and they are all doing giveaway to share and post. |

thebosstrevor1:The fire at Balogun Market was number 1 on Twitter trends. In fact, two separate fires. The first one raced to number 1 because people thought that Boko Haram had bombed the place. Nobody did give away for it. I can tell that you know you've lost the argument because you are already shifting the goalpost. Nobody said anything about being number 1 until you introduced that red herring ![]() |
| Re: Nigerian Social Media Influencers Were Paid To Support Alez Saab by Nobody: 4:13pm On Apr 09, 2021 |
naptu2:They were not number 1. All the accounts tweeting on trending lists are all influncers accounts with blue verification marks because they are paid. Now go to twitter and do a simple research, take up all the trending topic, click on them, check who are all posting and telling people to share, they are all accounts with good followers. |
| Re: Nigerian Social Media Influencers Were Paid To Support Alez Saab by naptu2(op): 4:18pm On Apr 09, 2021 |
thebosstrevor1:You said that nothing trends on Twitter unless it is paid for. You were wrong. Everybody knows it. You are only introducing the idea of being number 1 now because you know you were wrong. The fire at Balogun Market trended to the extent that Katie Hopkins, the renowned British racist tweeted about it. People were tweeting about it all over the world and it was number 1 in Nigeria. It was even reported by all the major international news stations. Nobody did give away for it. Did anybody do give away when Tolulope Arotile died? |
| Re: Nigerian Social Media Influencers Were Paid To Support Alez Saab by naptu2(op): 4:21pm On Apr 09, 2021 |
I bet thebosstrevor1 will say that some people did give away to trend Dr Ameyo Adadavoh when she died or to trend Armed Forces Remembrance Day |
| Re: Nigerian Social Media Influencers Were Paid To Support Alez Saab by Nobody: 4:25pm On Apr 09, 2021 |
naptu2:Next time use your Twitter account with less followers to tweet, tell all your friends and families to tweet and share for 10 days constantly, lets see if you will trend. If you are not using a very reputable twitter page, like newspapers, or influencers with lot of followers, you are wasting your time trending. Even top banks with their followers here in Nigeria hardly trends except when they use influencers to tweet aggressively. |

| Re: Nigerian Social Media Influencers Were Paid To Support Alez Saab by naptu2(op): 4:29pm On Apr 09, 2021 |
thebosstrevor1:Nothing that you have posted has refuted my claim. When an event occurs that affects a lot of people and is reported on traditional media, a lot of people will of course tweet about it and it will trend on Twitter without anybody paying for it. I hope you have now learnt this. Of course people pay for trends. That's what my thread is about. But no sensible person will say that every single trend is paid for. Everybody knows that's not true and you will be laughed at if you make that claim. |

| Re: Nigerian Social Media Influencers Were Paid To Support Alez Saab by Nobody: 4:32pm On Apr 09, 2021 |
naptu2:My point is simple no trend is organic. Trends are paid for and it pick momentum from free tweets to create a spike to get to number 1. Do you know anything about Twitter algorithm and how it works |
| Re: Nigerian Social Media Influencers Were Paid To Support Alez Saab by naptu2(op): 4:37pm On Apr 09, 2021 |
thebosstrevor1:I know that that is your point and it is wrong! You have totally and completely failed to explain all the examples that I and others have given you. Who paid for Dr Adadevoh's death to trend? Who paid for Prince Philip's death to trend (it was number 1 even today), who paid for Balogun Market to trend, etc? You have totally failed to understand that something will trend when a very large number of people tweet about it, for example, COVID-19 or lockdown that affected everybody and was reported on traditional media. Do you now see where you failed? |
| Re: Nigerian Social Media Influencers Were Paid To Support Alez Saab by Nobody: 4:47pm On Apr 09, 2021*. Modified: 5:08pm On Apr 09, 2021 |
naptu2:I have given you lot of examples. Let me give you another example using the case of some of the events in the the world and also Nigeria. Lets take punch newspaper Twitter page, every goal of a newspaper on social media is engagement, engagement is everything. For instance if punch has 1 million followers on twitter, when punch post a breaking news article about the death of someone like adedovah, prince Philips etc or fireoutbreak, about 1500 active users out of their 1 million followers will like the post and share it out of the 1500, only 15 might comment on it, that is because not everyone can be on twitter at the same time. For punch to reach a bigger Audience, they will promote the news through ads, with the promotion, it will reach lot of users and lot of engagement like clicks, share comments will take place. At end of the campaign, they would have reached almost 5 million people according to their budget and have almost a 100 million impressions. Now, imagine if 16 newspapers in Nigeria do that at the same time when they break the news, dont you think it will catch momentum and increase spike and trend on trend page?? That is how breaking news topic get to number 1....that is for media companies talkless of influencers when they are paid to tweet aggressively. Use the example above for prince Philip, now imagine cnn, bbc and major news networks breaking the news of his death and promote their articles through ad on twitter, dont you think it will create momentum for people all over the world to discuss about his death? In that way it trends. Nothing is free on Twitter. |
