When Kenya peak demand is 2000MW and supply is 3000MW - what is extra power called - buffer - takes care of system losses and leave more for it.
Now having installed theoritical capacity of 5000MW - but generally being unable to produce half of it - is NIGERIA
Ghana can only turn half the turbines - any given time - so 2,500MW
And peak demand is around 2,000MW
Therefore if you remove system losses - your NETWORK is bound to COLLAPSE every few days like it's doing now.

Dude in kenya we last had load shedding last generation - in fact most current generation do not know what load shedding is. We only lose power due to maintenance (MOST PLACES HAVE LIVE MAINTANANCE), really bad weather, transformer breakdown. NEVER LOAD SHEDDIN

Kenya power crisis ended in 2001: that was when we depended on Hydro - and we got drought. We quickly fix it by doing emergency thermal plants = but unlike Ghana - we never that was NOT the long term solution.

We went big on geothermal.

Now most of our power is HIGH QUALITY GEOTHERMAL power.

Why would geothermal ever GO DOWN smiley There is no gas or diesel; it's just water pumped down the earth crust and it shots back as steam; turn turbines; all day long; we can never run out of power.

Load shedding is when power is not enough on the grid - for any reason - if power plant goes down - and you have to ration power. Emergency problems should not last more than few hours...and not everday.

The redundant network can be explained as the alternative line of supply such that if one line goes off, power is automatically supplied by the other line hence the customer stays continuously connected. The system is reported to be used in advanced economies.

According to the Daily Nation, in the current financial year, the power utility is to spend Sh5.5 billion ($5.4 million) in network refurbishment and creation of redundant network especially in the industrial zones.

We have only had 6 power outages in Ghana since the beginning of this year.

One was a nationwide outage because of onshore gas pipeline valve not responding.

My thermal power plants are functioning to full capacity

My 500kva transmission line is undergoing replacement which require power shut down to some places in Accra



This is not Kenya where you dont have enough generation capacity hence the constant collapse in your national grid every years.
Kenya grid cannot transmit demand above 2000mw

Unless you have another kenya in your head - kenya we now of - Not many people in kenya know of word load shedding! or power rationing except those of us old enough to remember 1999-2001. That was first and last time we had LOAD SHEDDING.

Why ON EARTH would kenya ever go for load shedding.

First we have many emergency power plants - these are thermal plants - they are only switched on during emergency - there are not main source of power like Ghana

Kenya have stand by generators by Aggrekos and such - idling waiting for main power station to go off smiley

We do not use thermal plants as our source of power (ONLY MORONIC GHANA does that) - they are stand by generators.

Redundancy lines will still run through Bulk supply stations

We are working on a 580MVA bulk supply station which is in it interconnection phase which require power shutdown for that work to be carried out.
