THE ONE GOD WILL USE. 2Tim 2:20-21
“20. In a wealthy home some utensils are made of gold and silver, and some are made of wood and clay. The expensive utensils are used for special occasions, and the cheap ones are for everyday use 21. If you keep yourself pure, you will be a special utensil for honorable use. Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work” (NLT)

Dear friends, I greet you in the name of the Lord this morning. I pray that we will live to experience the goodness of God all through our lives in Jesus name. Today, we want to talk about; “The one God will use”. This teaching will be divided into two parts, we will consider the first part today and continue next week.

Dear brothers and sisters, let me tell you that God is an investor, Matthew 25:14-15 “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like this. Once there was a man who was about to go on a journey; he called his servants and put them in charge of his property. He gave each one according to his ability: to one he gave 5,000 gold coins, to another he gave 2,000 and to another he gave 1,000. Then he left on his journey” (Good News). God has a lot of resources at his disposal and in his mercy, he gives these resources out to his children for increase. Also, God is rewarder. Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (KJV). Our God rewards those who work well with the resources he has given them when they come with huge profits as seen in verses 20-27 of Matthew 25. However, he frowns at anyone who fails to bring in profit.

In the same vein, God is on a long journey and He is coming back. Let me explain myself so that I do not preach heresy or confuse you. You see in Matthew 25:14 that we read earlier, Jesus presented himself as a man who gave his servants money before he went on a journey and in John 14:2 he said; “There are many rooms in my Father’s house and I am going to prepare a place for you. I would not tell you this if it were not so”. Here, he promised us that he was going to prepare rooms for us with his father in heaven which was confirmed in Acts 1:9 as he was taken up to heaven in front of his disciples. Therefore, this is the reason why I said he is on a long journey and we know he is coming back as Rev 22:12 says “And behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.” (KJV). God is coming back from his “journey” to see the progress we have made with his investment and to reward us adequately.

Furthermore, God as a good investor is always on the lookout for people who can adequately manage his resources with great output. Acts 13:2 “One day as these men were worshipping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Dedicate Barnabas and Saul for the special work to which I have called them.” (NLT). We can see that God called out Barnabas and Paul for the special work he wanted to use them for because he knew they would bring in great yield. Therefore, the next thing we will consider having understood that God is an investor who wants great yield is; who will God use? God will use those with the following attributes;

1. God will use the one that has answered his call. Rev 3:20 “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.” (NLT). Through the death and resurrection of Jesus, God has put out a call to everyone because Jesus died for all. If you accept his invitation and submit your life to him, you automatically have a call and become an instrument in the hands of God for his work.

2. The one who listens and obeys God. John 10:27 “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” (NLT). God will use anyone who listens to him. Anyone who seeks to hear from God before taking any step and most importantly, the one that obeys what God is asking him or her to do, not minding how difficult it is will be used by God.

3. The one who is passionate about the spread of the gospel. 1 Cor 9: 22-23 “When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. 23. I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.” Here, we see the passion of Apostle Paul by doing all he could as a human to get people to listen to the word of God and bring them to Christ.

4. The one that has faith and pray and fast. Matthew 17:21 “But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” (Amplified). Another criterion of being used by God is being a man or woman of faith. Someone who knows that with God all things are possible and someone who goes to God every time in prayer and fasting in order to get plugged to the power of God without getting tired. Luke 18:1.

5. The one ready to die to sin. Rom 8:13 “For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.” (KJV). Anyone who belongs to God and shuns the flesh and its deeds by living in the Spirit presents his or her life to God as a living sacrifice Romans 12:1 will be used by God.

6. The grateful one. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 “Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” (NLT). The one that will work for God is one that gives praise to God at all times. S/he does not take the glory of what God is doing through them, neither do they fail to acknowledge God in all situations whether good or bad.

7. The disciplined one. 1 Cor 9:27 “I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself be disqualified.” (NLT). This is an important aspect of being used by God. Based on the little that I know, God will not use a reckless man, anyone that God does not trust cannot handle huge tasks for him. Everyone striving to be used by God must be disciplined in their thoughts, actions, way of dressing and in their service to God in general. They must be willing to bend to he will of God at all times and never entertain sin in their lives.
