But Nigeria airforce bombed villages in Benue and Akwa Ibom without caring for civilians.

The Nigeria army knew Boko haram was coming. Why not engage them on the way?
Why wait for them to enter town then say you don't want to kill civilians?

You can't Fulani me.
Why engage the bandits? Indeed!! when it's safer to let the bandits plunder the town and send the civilians, that's, those that were fortunate enough to survive the rampage, to IDP camps.

State-sponsored terrorism..........

I personally think that call not to attack the Boko Haram was the realistic thing to save his soldiers lives . He could be a collaborator and could have sent his poorly equipped and low moral soldiers to their death. The Nigerian army in the NE are not sent their to crush Boko Haram but to have their presence there.

The airforce needs to be investigated. They trailed the Boko haram soldiers to the point the got to where they started attacking innocent civilians. I believe they should have followed them to their base and pinpoint it for necessary action by the NA but no.

I think the Nigerian Airforce and army has been compromised

Only a Nigerian soldier you know personally can tell you the truth about what is really going on in the Nigerian army in their so-called "fight" against boko haram.

Imagine a whole Nigerian army not being able to defeat a mere uneducated and poorly trained terrorist group like boko haram...
I reiterate, this country has been hijacked by enemies from within.

Buhari's regime is obviously complicit in this bokoharam war am very certain that a neutral govt will totally eliminate bokoharam within 6 months in office. If it were to be in the south am sure that the nigerian airforce won't hesitate in bombing those bokoharam members that ran into the town with civilians.

Amilitary source has explained why the Nigerian Army of 5 Brigade and 145 Battalion could not repel Boko Haram attack on Damasak town, Borno State despite heavy military presence.

The military source told SaharaReporters that Brigadier General, S. S. Tilawan had asked soldiers to stay back rather than attack the terrorists who invaded Damasak town on Saturday.

File photo used to illustrate story.
According to him, the Boko Haram militants had come through the town where civilians are residing making it difficult for the fighter aircraft to strike.

He said the airforce personnel had monitored the movement of the terrorists and informed foot soldiers who ought to tactically combat the attack. He, however, said S. S. Tilawan asked soldiers to retreat, giving the terrorists a smooth operation.

“The Boko Haram terrorists came through Damasak town and started the attack from 4:04 pm to 8 pm. The attack lasted for that long, the Boko Haram militants came through the town where civilians live. The airforce personnel tried, they were there on time to attack Boko Haram but couldn't because of civilians.

“It was supposed to be the duty of the army to enter that town and fish out these bad boys, but we don't even have what to use, talkless of other things. The jet cannot bomb that town because the Boko Haram militants came from where civilians are staying and the governor of this state, Babagana Zulum, has so much confidence in this battalion, that is why he opened IDPs' camp in Damasak to protect his people because he so much loves his people. He wants to ensure that the people live comfortably but now it seems like the army has failed the man due to high corruption in the army, this country is so bad.

“With my five years in the army, even common helmet we don't have, even those who fought first and second world wars used the helmet to fight and in this modern day and age, we don't have a helmet, I am very angry.

“Within a month now, we have lost 18 soldiers in this battalion because of one useless Brigade Commander S. S. Tilawan they brought to us. This man is creating unnecessary work, he scattered the camp. I believe he is an agent of Boko Haram. A few days ago, a company was dislodged by Boko Haram militants and when our people tried to go for reinforcement, he said we should not go. That day we lost 10 soldiers and today when the jet came, they told us that they could sight the Boko Haram guys but could not bomb because civilians were there, and that we should go with our little weapons and recapture the town.

“Tilawan still gave order that we should not go to that town. He has forgotten that we are here because of these people. The world should come and do something about this man before the issue gets out of hand. The governor should know that his people are no longer safe because of the Brigadier General S. S. Tilawan, he should come fast and do something.

“People are dying anyhow, and we are here for them. I don't know the number of people who died but I know Boko Haram militants entered the area and looted it. I feel angry because we could not help these people and we are here for them. It is my duty as a Nigerian soldier to protect people but there is nothing we can do when our leaders make decisions against the people.

“Boko Haram killed people in the town and injured some. The people are doing burials in their cemetery now. We would've rescued them yesterday but the commander gave the order that we should not enter the town.

“They didn't enter our camp but they looted Damasak town to their satisfaction. They even took civilians' cars away. We lost 3 soldiers to yesterday's attack, totalling 18 soldiers under just one month.”

SaharaReporters had earlier reported how the Boko Haram fighters invaded Damasak town in Borno State on Saturday, burning United Nations facilities and forcing humanitarian workers to flee for their lives.

It was learnt that the terrorists, aided by their deadlier Islamic State West African Province fighters, set fire to the UN office and at least three other international charity organisations contiguous to the UN facility.

“The terrorists came into the town in gun trucks. They first embarked on a looting spree. They carted away aid supplies meant for the Internally Displaced Persons before they set fire to the UN hub in the town and three other buildings belonging to other aid organisations,” a source in the town narrated.

I'll advise those humanitarian service providers especially from the UN, to withdraw their services from this well scripted Insurgency and flex their money instead, cos the leaders of the northern region and their top security commanders are just cashing out and catching cruise from the crisis...they may even commit suicide if the crisis end. Let them use their region to keep testing weapons & shooting Arabic war videos.
they're not that too willing to help and really don't even need to (for them). Only Nigeria will truly fix Nigeria problems. If they wanted to help they would have done that long ago but no P it will soon go round then this God forsaken leaders will understand that they are not safe too

This is the tragic truth. I was a fan of one Nigeria but I now feel that we need to restructure Nigeria asap , to devolve power to regions, and decentralized the incompetent control of the FG presidential system, even if not feasible to separate totally right now into independent nations.

Depressing knowing that those we voted to protect us are the same people sponsoring and/or abetting terror against Nigerians while sending out our armed forces guys, loved ones to so many, to die as cannon fodders and collateral damages for their nefarious private agendas.

I don't see a way forward other than letting those who want a terrorised lifestyle and region to go their way so that they are not allowed to take others down with them all for the sake of "one Nigeria".
Hehehehe,
"I was a fan of one Nigeria"
We would be hearing this line more often,
I wonder how many people have to die before people realize the simple fact that Nigeria will never work!!

Is this not what most Igbos have been asking for but you guys call them nameshuh Igbos are straightforward in their dealings, no trying to hide their feelings for political gain which is why many people say Igbos don't know how to play national politics, not with human lives and security.

Nigeria either need to be restructured to a complete regional system or total division. Anything less won't work because Hausa-Fulanis seem to love killings and terrorism, which brings their region to ruins, so for peace to reign they need to be allowed to do what they desire with their region without using their actions to draw other regions backward as it is the case right now.

Well, here was the situation

Boko was raiding a town with a large civillan populaiton

So, if the Army came rushing in, what's to stop Boko from using most of the civillans as impromptu human shields?

And guess who would be blamed at the end...yes the Army.

Sometimes , it is better not to let your enemy choose your battle grounds.
It’s the primary job of the army to protect the people, whatever the battlefield. Close quarter combat is an essential component of modern military training. Sending a message to terrorists they can raid any populated city unopposed is nonsensical.

What’s the strategy then? To interdict as they retreat or give them free pass in and out because of civilian population?. The terrorists could have caused major carnage, as they have been doing all over Nigeria.

It’s no secret this govt is riddled with BH sympathisers.

Military warfare has evolved. No one is asking for the intervention of national armies. Our military can benefit from the experience and capabilities of organised mercenaries, capabilities we currently lack. Mercenaries is the way to go to complement our forces. This should include leased helicopter gunships, an essential platform to ending this conflict. The battle needs to be taken to the terrorists. Our current posture is currently way too reactive!

Well, they could have gone in roaring, and hundreds of people would have died along with the Bokoists. And at the end of the day, people will blame the Army and the commander for the deaths of civillans, not Boko.

Also, gurriella warfare is a never ending strife and a different kind of warfare. The British spent over 20 years fighting an insurgency in Northern Ireland. It does not mean that the British Army was riddled with IRA symphatisers....or for that matter the nearly 20 years the US has spent in Afghanistan does not mean the US Army is riddled with Taliban symphatisers.

Guriella warfare works on one priniciple. If you don't lose, you win. And anyway, the Army has chased off Boko from a lot of areas, and has ended the mass bombings that used to be prevalent all over the North. Also, Boko is largely restricted to Borno.

What Boko does is very simple. Mass attack on weak points, kill a few soldiers, and a lot of civillians, retreat, and then claim a propaganda victory, to scare most of us, and to sow seeds of division and strife, and to make us tired of the war. At the end we their enemy reitre in divsion and confusion, while they win. That is how many guriella forces who have won, win.

And that is why I am angry with most Nigerians, especially the GEJ ites and Buharists and the whole North South divide in this country. The truth is, Boko Haram does not care about our beliefs, or lack of it. Their aim is to sow division so that they can defeat all of us and have us bowing to Sheaku in years. That is why, we must put aside our differences and fight this demon...completely. And saying this does not mean I am a buhari supporter. I am not. You do not have to agree with the APC goivernment or with the PDP goivernment to realise that we are fighting against a rapacious demon who will stop at nothing until we are all devoured...regardless of our religion or tribe.

Consider this holistically. No sane nation will allow their citizens be terrorised, slaughtered the way it’s happening in Nigeria. Terrorists have been given too much space to operate. They invade cities, rape, main and kill for hours, escape to their enclaves totally unopposed! Our army has been reduced to a totally defensive force, and an utterly incapable one at that. This is frightening and senseless. We have DMI, DSS etc with their hefty budgets devoted only to protecting buhari and harassing his critics.

When armies chose not to engage terrorists in densely populated areas, they don’t do this for terrorists to operate at will. They take this position on the premise that the terrorists wont kill anyone and that they will be engaged and neutralised as they retreat into less dense battlefield. In Nigeria’s case, they simply operate, destroy and vanish. This is shameful

I find it inconceivable that terrorists can’t be tracked to their hideouts as they retreat. Drones are available on public sites that can pick precise coordinates. These platforms are available for as little as $10k. The explanation to these failings is simple. The NA is weak, compromised ineffective, thanks to complicity and haplessness of this Buhari’s govt. The govt is BH and BH is the govt. Until Buhari leaves that office one way or another, Nigeria is finished. Shikena!
