Having a website makes sense. It tells people you are serious. If you want to separate yourself from online 'hawkers' you should have one.

It irritates me when Nigerian companies give me their contact details with a yahoo, gmail or hotmail email address!

For God sake all those domains are own by companies like you. Nigeria/ Nigerians need to step up their game.

Even if people find you on Nairaland or craigslist etc. They would likely want to know more about your business or person. Not being able to do that scares a lot of potential clients away.

Even Youtubers have websites! A business selling goods or services should.

Everyday domains with high DA, TF, PA are being dropped daily. Many of them has lots of traffics attached to them. All you need to do is do your research well and know how to pay less and build your website on such esterblished sites with good track records. You can use services like domcop or just dropped to find such, if not go to fiverr and let those guys take the pain off you.

If you are into digital marketing, i think having a website is very crucial. You will need things like codes, facebook pixels to track customers when running ads. The best form of advertising is facebook and instagram ads. A website is needed absolutely and very helpful.

Depends on the business.

Some businesses need websites while some do not need.

But offline and online tactics should be used to get traffic for any business you do.

For instance, A blog need a site but getting traffic is all about using all available seo tactics on ground plus ads if you have the money.

A phone seller in my opinion do not need a website, advertising on Facebook, nairaland and other social media might bring the needed sales.

The way things are set up is that google get most revenue from ads, so the system is more favorable to those who have ad money than for those getting free traffic from Google.

But Facebook does not approved all ads even though it doesn't breach their ads guidelines

Some ads breach their guidelines, read their guidelines to understand the type of ads to post.

Gone are the days where you can easily build your website and you can easily be seen and heard.

Now the competition is so great that you literally have to pass through the eye of a needle to get some traffic to your website

Having a website can greatly affect your business and it still does, that's for those that started maybe few years ago

there are over 1.4 billion websites in the world right now and each and every single one of those is struggling for the first page of google

Which leaves beginners no choice than to start investing in seo and other strategies which might also take a long while to start showing results

And to make things even difficult for website creators, platforms like quora, nairaland, craigslist and the rest have made it easier to own your own page and add content to it and also get good amount of views without even having to own a website.

I have had thousands of views to the content I share all because of nairaland but it would have been a great challenge if I had to do this for my personal website or blog.

This that I am doing for free might have taken my money time and effort if I was to transfer it to a blog or site.

So is it still profitable to own a website now without having to wait for months if not forever before you start getting the traffic or should one just stick to social sites like Nairaland, Quora and the rest

What's your take on this?

Firstly, some websites are meant to be portfolio sites not blogs for getting traffic.

Portfolio sites are like a banner that you give to a prospective client to learn more about your business.

Nowadays, people spend most of their time with their phones and on the internet so it's easier for them to visit your website to learn about you than to read a banner.

Moreover, if you don't tell tell your story someone else will. If you don't create a website for your business to tell people what you're about some other platforms might publish false info about you.

I believe it's still worth it.

Yes, there are many websites but do you know that only a thousands get up to a thousand views daily.

That means most websites are either dead or dying.

I have designed up to a dozen websites and blogs but only one of them is getting up to 5p views per day.

Why? There's no useful content on those other websites.

Today, how to create a website isn't the problem. It's how to create quality content that is the problem. There are many blogs with wishy-washy articles that can never rank. Every day dozens of new blogs are created but only a few of them have a solid content plan.

So, to your question.

It's worth it if you have the time, discipline and skill to constantly create quality and useful content. Or you have the money and managerial skills to hire seasoned content creators.

Otherwise, don't bother yourself.

Depends on the purpose and functionality of the website really. Most personal websites where only u share the information will drag, even private and public company websites are largely inactive and not updated even for multinationals, non interactive websites also face same challenges except blogs. So if creating a website the purpose matters.

I think this is where the essence of hyperlink becomes prized.
You can build your website and register your presence on the social media space.
While the traffic is flowing fast on the SM, some passers may just as well branch off into your site...
Say you grasp?

lol. owning a website for your brand inspires confidence and gives a professional outlook to your brand. It also gives a brief description about your brand and it's location.

most clients will first Google your brand before patronizing you. when this happens and you are not found you don't expect them to take you seriously.

Besides, website has gone beyond a static content that litters the web space. Modern websites are dynamic and is geared towards automation. Many businesses has moved away from the traditional buying and selling offline to e-commerce platforms. Businesses like paystack and others relies on their websites to run. Even big brands like mtn, glo , shell, Chevron and government agencies have websites.

Job interviews and lots more are conducted on websites. A website is more than just hosting a landing page on whogohost or Qservers

hi, I am Clinton, a fullstack web developer. If you need custom website that can send emails and SMS to your customers, integrate payment gateway like paystack etc chat me up on 0 80 .79 .41 :37:.38 or email me. Contact details on my profile

Would love for you to handle something for mein future..

But my question is do Nigerians pay online, via paystack etc before delivery?..

Or whats the essence of the pay stack integration?

Yeah. you make payment before delivery. paystack helps you to accept or make payments on your website

Are you creating a website just for the sake of creating one or you have a plan?

The thing is owning a website is only a step, it's not all you need to be successful. Having a site without traffic is as useless as situating a shop in the bush where there's no one to patronize it. You need to have a strategy for traffic - do you want to optimize it for the search engines (btw SEO is difficult and expensive these days), do you want to buy traffic (SEM, banner, display etc) or do you want to play on social media (one of the biggest, most-recommended sources these days)?

Whatever you choose you must have a very sound plan. It's not a joke at all.. It takes some time and experience but eventually if you know what you are doing it will pay off big time, like BIG TIME!

It does

Nigerian economy isn’t getting any better , last week , a friend of mine was at Sabo to exchange some dollars he got from google adsense and he successfully was able to exchange $100 for #48,000 . .
I see many people making enquires one what type of business to do , my advice is , don’t even think of a business you would earn in Naira because the economy keeps getting worse and you would directly or Indirectly still purchase your needs at dollar rate .
If you are looking for an amazing business to start , then I will advise you to go into any of blogging , E-commerce , directory or any online business .

I will answer this question based on my experience over the years as a website designer who has also learnt online marketing.

Yes, a website is still very much important in this era (and this depends on the kind of business you run though)...

However, much more important is the strategy behind ensuring the website makes you money or converts visitors to buyers.

There are many websites online that add no value in income or otherwise to the bottom line of the business.

They are just there.

The first thing you have to think of before setting up a website is this; how will this website make me money or improve my business?

This is where the concept of the BUYER'S JOURNEY (simply called - FUNNEL) comes in.

For example, if I want to setup a website for a Tax Consultant, I will ask him/her the following:

1. What are the EXACT SERVICES you want to offer?

2. What is the EXACT AUDIENCE (OR CUSTOMER) you want to reach out to.

3. What is/are the PAIN POINT(s) of your audience?

4. What EXACT SOLUTIONS do you have to the problems identified in No. 3 above?

5. Can you offer FREE CONSULTING or a FREE EBOOK/REPORT that can position you as an expert and also SHOW the solutions in No. 4 above?

The detailed answers to these questions then assist me in creating the right strategy and online marketing framework to create a CONVERSION-FOCUSED website for the client.

For some clients, they only need a landing page that will attract their right audience through paid ads (Google, Facebook/Instagram, Nairaland), etc.

I am available for further discussion if you desire me to elaborate on this.

Thanks.

Do you mean just plain websites or web apps. web apps also run on browsers. web apps powers things like the jamb portal, most feedral instiutions make use of web apps even federal govt agencies like the n-power test portal. Even if u mean websites, they are still very important. Just a few organizations have a functional website. For example during the "covid wahala" demand for web developers sky rocketed. Web apps have the added advantage for more support for mre devices. As long as your device can install browsers, you can access any web app. The code for web apps are cross-platform, you dont need an android developer, ios developer and windows developer you just need a web-app-developer

I would advice learning to build a website should be for the basics then u learn to create databases and how to manage data on a website. I think that's what most companies are after now since the pandemic has reduced employees in the companies, working from home is now the trend, database management is a very good way to work from home when working for a company such as jumia, mtn, etc companies that provide services online through websites.
