If you check well, I was using the term “hidden” and I also mentioned parapet wall which act as envelope around the hidden roof.

The design is not 100% flat roof but a “not so” flat roof.

Remember a N240 block (measuring 9”) couldn’t satisfy the need of my Neighbour who had to push to 13 coaches of blocks while I was only using a N200 block at 12 coaches (measuring 10”) to achieve the same height.

Quality does not necessary mean paying more

The only issue here is I don’t even have a single window that fits the regular. description in my ongoing and the upcoming build. They’re not the conventional stuffs. Neither is my Atrium not the outdoor garden.

No regular lintels either as can be seen in my posts. Just something out of the box.

My major challenge is I want a consistent supply. I’ve had 8” 3/4” block. I’ve had 9in.

I’m sticking with my 10”

Reason why you will notice that all drawing will tally with the height of 9” block plus mortar bed 25mm (1”) to achieve your building height.

Reason why also you will notice that 4 course of block 9” will give you regular window bottom height and window height without cutting the block.

Same reason with door height.

All these things has standard measurement.

Once it’s more than 9” or lower than 9” then there will be an issue of cutting block height or reduce height to work with building components (windows, door, etc

Don't be so quick in dismissing this client. The client certainly knows what they are doing.

It is possible the client is a German diaspora. In Germany, windows open INWARDS so you can clean them especially upper floors.

If the windows open outward, you can't clean them or struggle to clean them. In the UK just like Nigeria most windows open outward so we employ window cleaners to clean windows. For some who cannot afford window cleaners or rented apartments, what you get are dirty, dusty windows. The same in Nigeria. Dirty, dusty upper floors windows everywhere.

It is possible this client doesn't want to go down that route, hence adopted the German solution.

Burglary protectors are supposed to also protect the glass as well against football by kids playing outside so nothing unusual as installed. In Spain, South America etc, protectors are outside. No big deal.

I'm frustrated with our windows at home opening inwards. We engage periodically window cleaners at a cost just to clean windows. We don't have this problem when we are in Germany.

Windows in Germany open three dimensional: you can tilt them backwards open (only the top opens), you can open them halfway and you can open all through to clean inside and outside from within. You don't need to go outside.



Go for it. Sometimes one just has to break convention to improve the system. German Window designs as you already know are very functional and user friendly.

Actually i´ve used the windows before in my parents house but sadly all the windows were install wrongly and i promised not to try it again, but based on the cleaning aspect i might do it again.

Is nice to see someone on this platform that i can relate with about building based on German standard, Nigerian builders and engineers are trying though but they are still far behind.

Now look at the photo you attached. Can you see how practicable the design is. Even if you are at the 17th floor, to clean it just open inward and clean inside and outside. You don't need men dangling on seil ropes just to clean your window in outward design.
