In order to guarantee the sanctity of the ballot and as well engender a credible electoral process in the country ahead of the 2023 general election, the National Assembly has made far-reaching provisions in the Electoral Offences Commission Bill and the Electoral Act (2010) Amendment Bill (2020) which are under consideration and will soon be passed into law.https://leadership.ng/electoral-offences-bill-political-parties-officials-risk-n50m-fine-over-unqualified-candidates/amp/?__twitter_impression=true

They should concentrate on electronic voting for now instead of all these. Electronic voting will solve most of these problems. 3 Likes |

Good move but the penalty should be 5 years jail or more, not 50k because most of them has that money to pay, they will still commit the crime because they know that the penalty is money and the will achieve their goals. 1 Like |

This won't work. Prosecution and imprisonment is enough deterrent. Not this 50 million naira child's play that is chicken change for the thieving politicians. A politician will go ahead to deliberately commit the electoral offence, makes sure he achieved his aim and have the 50 million naira handy to settle the fine. His thought will be "if 50 million naira will ensure my shot at the governorship position while ensuring the loss of my opponent, then I'll gladly pay it" This is the same way the 500 thousand naira hate speech fine reviewed upward to 5 million naira has not worked till this day. In fact, what the politicians do now is this: they walk up to the radio or TV station with their hate speech broadcast, pay 5 million for the broadcast and drop 5 million naira extra for the station in case NCC comes calling with their "hate speech" penalty. Now tell me if that is not a good deal. |

Idiotic elements, the rate of hunger in the land is damn alarming. From alimosho to Ikeja, Ikeja to Oshodi, Oshodi to Surulere, Surulere to Orile Iganmu hunger everywhere. If the rate of begging and hunger in Lagos could be this much I wonder how Osun will be? |

INEC too is guilty of electoral offences by continually ignoring the huge number of toddler voters in the North. They should be removed from the voters' register immediately. Meanwhile, I strongly oppose the style in Nigeria where every new piece of legislation produces another parastatal. Soon there would be National Vote Counting Agency. |
