We don't have an Aviation board on Nairaland. But I think that this is the closest board to air travel talks. So, please permit me to ask this question here:

If I'm flying to China, but I fly to Brazil first before I get to China, what is it called? I know that it can be called indirect flight. But I think there's a more appropriate way to say it.

It's called a connecting flight or a transit flight. The stop itself is called a layover or a stopover depending on the duration. And if you need a visa for such stops, you'd be asking for a transit visa. Finally, the opposite is called a direct flight.
