Please, I need your contribution. I learnt that if a person had stayed in a particular state in Nigeria for about a decade, such an individual is eligible to obtain a citizenship certificate in any Local Government Areas of his choice, especially when he's trying to secure an employment with the state government and there's no provision for applicants who are non indigens. I'm fully aware of the fact that there are various types of citizenship (by birth, marriage, naturalization etc.), is this not a clear case of IMPERSONATION to obtain a citizenship by birth certificate when he was not born and brought up there? Can such an IMPOSTOR be arrested and prosecuted? |

highbee02:Nigeria did not abolish state of origin, so there's no need to suffer your self because is capital impersonation, even a woman high judge was deny to serve a state because she was married to a man not that state, she's indegen of another state. |

Citizenship and indigenship are two different words which cannot be used interchangeably. Birth, naturalisation and marriage are applicable to the former while the latter are determined by the leadership of the societies. Meanwhile, the word "impersonation" has no place when it comes to claim of origin. It is simply what it is, False Claim. |

Simplyleo:Thanks for the clarification, the citizenship here means STATE OF ORIGIN. Is there any penalty for FALSE CLAIM when one is caught? |

highbee02:Of course yes. The undue advantage gained from the false claim will be stripped off. Though it rarely occurs, especially now that calls are being in some quarters that State of Origin be replaced with State of Residence. |

Simplyleo:Apart from stripping of the undue advantage, will it involve a jail term? I'm just curious. Thanks |

highbee02:Of course is an offence and some punishment must be attached. But note, if the accused holds a certificate of indigenship duly signed by the appropriate authority, no case. |

Simplyleo:Even when it's obvious that the accused does not have any blood link in that geographical area? Let say from the name, accent. He obtained the certificate of indigeneship through the back door |

highbee02:If the village head decide to recognise him as one of them, that's final. For instance, Abacha is actually from Borno state but he used Kano State as his state of origin. And Kano indigenes are aware. Same applied to his CSO, Hamza Almustapha. Hamza Almustapha even once said, "my adopted state" in one of his comments when he came back from prison. |

highbee02:After going through all the comments i discover that your intentionally want to commit a crime and will turn back to cry that the people are wicked when the ship turn against you. If you are not an Igbo don't try it in Igbo land because they have a way to identify son of the soil when the needs arise, the same with some section of Yoruba, is only at northern side you can see name as, Ibrahim Dan Rano, Alhaji Tambulawa, Usman Dan Gombe, from the name you see they can clarify how they become indigence of that place by using a town name as surname and the indigence accept that. But for others tribe, all the surname you see or heard had another name behind it which if mentioned, the people of that tribe can identify where and clan the person belongs to. Secondly, a village head cannot installed you to be one of them especially in the entire southern Nigeria, because every tribe in southern Nigeria start from a clan, in that clan there's families which they know them self, Because of the clan's that's reason is difficult to see Yoruba/Hausa, Ijaw/Yoruba, Igbo/Yoruba or Calaba/Igbo, in the south Igbo is Igbo forgte the political creation of Delta Igbo or Ikwerre Igbo or IKAIgbo, Yoruba is Yoruba forget what is happening at Kwara state, is only In the north you can see different mix tribe names. so trying that your about to criminal act in the south may not end well with you, even if federal government make a constitution to abolish state of origin do you think it can be effective in the south? impossible. You better apply whatever job your targeting with genuineness as resident in the state, if they give you the job then you thanks your star, but i wonder the type of government job in another state that is not in your state of origin? But corruption has eating you up at this level, who know what you can do if you see your self in high position, that will amount to missing of hug amount. please change |

Simplyleo:Village head depends on the tribe he's talking about, at southern region is impossible for village head, in the north he don't even need the village head, if he's a northerner and a Muslim, he can change his name to Yusuf Dan Tofa, Iliasu Mai Hanya, Babagida Mijinyawa, simple as that and he will be given Bawa to to jamaa and before you know it, he will be popular, when he become popular, he will start making wazi every evening, after that apply for any job or political contest in that state, and see your self become a leader in a state you intentional know your a visitor. And next become a minister of Nigeria president. which almajiri had identity? 90% of acclaim Northern elites migrates from Niger republic Maradi and Dan-Isa while the less come from chad inculding Abacha father who reside in Bornu state before moving to Fegge district in kano, while Abacha settled at Jidado crescent around Gidan governors in Kano |

seaenergy:Thanks, though u have not answered my question satisfactorily. What's the penalty if one's caught? Somebody committed or about to commit the crime in the ongoing recruitment excercise by the state Civil Service Commission. The exercise doesn't make provision for the settlers, and that's y the state government asked for the State of origin certificate. The guy involved has the document but it's obvious that he's not from this particular state or Local Government Area he claimed. |
