Not really. A solid grounding in web development HTML, CSS, Javascript, React and PHP is enough to learn Magento.

What I will advise beginners is to learn platforms first especially with regards to web development. Find a platform and master everything about that platform. There's so much work in this platforms compared to general web development which most people are eyeing. Things like Magento, Shopify, servicenow, WordPress. Deep development within these platforms pay very well.

At all I don't have time to teach. You don't have to be brilliant. I used to be a mechanic before I became a programmer. For forums and website learn everything listed here.

Plus many never reach that point of entry level. Give ten guys laptops today and money for data to go and learn coding. In a year time, only one might have made it. Most times none will even make it. Almost everyone loves playing football from when they are young to being an adult but to become a professional footballer and be making money from playing football is a different ball game.

I have noticed that programming is just like playing football almost everyone is jumping into programming because of this natural love once someone finds out about programming.

Some say money is not their motive for programming that it is a passion, true if your parents a loaded. But for those who are looking at making ends meet by going into programming which requires finanial resourses and plenty of time, it will be good to research first and find out how many people are actually making money from programming. I have seen over 50 programmers chasing one small job on a freelance website.
If you intend to create the next popular platform then you need to research into how these platforms become very popular and are attracting plenty of users.

Programming is fun and very enticing even though it requires long hours but remember that making ends meet from programming does not just happen like magic and that people will always say to you come and learn programming but they will not show you a guaranteed way of making ends meet from it.

Programming is like every other profession; no job is guaranteed. There are millionaire tailors and there are poor tailors. There are millionaire PhD holders and there are poor PhD holders. There are billionaire entrepreneurs and there are poor entrepreneurs.

So nothing special about programming. It's just another opportunity to get a good life for yourself.

And the truth is I know many folks making hundreds of thousands monthly from programming. I know few folks making millions from it too.

That said, many people think IT is all about programming but this is wrong. There are many folks making millions from IT without going into programming at all.

If you're good in using SPSS you can get a good job. If you're good in ArcGIS you can get a good job/contract. If you're good in 3D animation with blender you can get juicy contracts. That's just to name a few.

Low-key, many youths are making millions from IT. Just as there's high supply of service sellers there's also high demand for these services and there's lots of money it.

Add to that, these skills require no capital except your time, a laptop and data sub so the entry barrier is low.

Finally, many people focus on building their hard skills a d forget to build their soft skills. Whereas it's these soft skills that will help them get contracts and build relationships. Soft skills like writing and documentation, networking, interpersonal relationships, LinkedIn etc.

It takes years to become a proper full stack developer but you can become emoloyable in less than a year with seriousness. So many people underrate the time it takes to learn to code. Take ten people who want to learn coding or have started learning coding go back and you will see maybe just one or two made it to the level of being employable. There's so many parts that are way more sexy and fulfilling than even being a full stack developer sef.

I'm actually on AWS cloud computing. Its not been really funny cos it seem to combine both programming and other stuffs. I hope to sit for my first exams by August and maybe the final one for December, just a year course

The most embarrassing thing is that most of this so called programers cannot even put two lines of code together


Programers are problems solvers but you cannot solve problems when when you get no skills.

The so-called Nigeria programers are bunch of hungry mofos with zero skills. All they do is copy peoples work and sell it to others.

I dropped a tutorial on rollover betting tips... explaining to football punters how to make money in football betting via rollover bets. Many people home and abroad read the tutorial and liked it. Here on nairaland majority are now claiming to be the master and originator of rollover bets. Some are even going about scaming people with it.

So what we have in Nigeria are bunch of copy cat mofos who always want the easy way out. Programming is not something that quench your immediate need for food. Go and farm if you are hungry and need some little cash.


But for those who truly want to become a computer programmer, know that it takes a lot of work. You will work like never before in your life. Days will be coming and going too fast for your liking because you won't have much time. Over all, you must be a problem solver..if you cannot use your programming skills to better the lives of those in your community then you are not there yet.

I was learning programming with full passion to become a senior developer. Honestly I remember trying to build my first responsive website. It was a herculean task. I succeeded, it was fun but I couldn't get a job with my skill..
Thank God for the experience.

But I made the best decision of my life last year. Dropping programming for more profitable but difficult skill I wouldn't mention.

I am a developer with over 3 years solid experience in writing c#, Python, javascript, html,css, razor, flutter and dart I can tell you that even if 100k people enter into programming now, The job will still be on high demand. All you need to do is just be good at what you do, jobs will come for you.

Do not be discouraged to get into the field, dont think that people with computer science degree are favored more. I hold a political science degree and only learnt to code I currently do two jobs a remote job from a company in the UK and an onsite job in Lagos Nigeria.

I would advice any one who wishes to pick up programming to be very conscious of that decision and follow it till the end. (although there is no end, as technology keeps on changing the demand for sophisticated developers increases) Keep up with the trend in your chosen language and framework.

It's not over populated at all plus the internet as we know and use it is not even up to 30 years old. The development craze in Nigeria just started seven years ago. How many people were crazy about the field as of like 2013 or 2012 besides not every one crazy about it eventually makes it.

The ability to create something out of nothing is the MAIN ingredient needed to be successful. And to win, one needs to discipline himself to be patient and silent. Strategic Management which produces success is the way out. Whether you are into programming or football. Less than 0.01% of the human has this.

Learn SQL n be well grounded.
