use the money to expand your base,go to places where construction work goes on steady,if around Lagos,go to the island, get to know people, tell them what you do.
you'll get more customers, and more jobs

Brother carpentry, I'll advise you to go for another business as far you have the ideas to creat another income. Your carpentry work is not everyday sales, but go for business that human can't do without in a day or weekly NB: don't quit your carpentry work along your business

Learning a handiwork is a red flag! Like most people have rightly said, you have a handiwork already. If you want to quit because you are currently experiencing low patronage, why don't you find out why first? Or do you know what future awaits the new handiwork you want learn at this moment?

Any of the following could be the reason for your current situation:
1. You still use crude tools
2. Your designs are out of vogue
3. Perhaps you have limited your skills to making only tables, piggy banks, and chairs.
4. Your environment
5. Do you actually always meet customers expectations in terms of services?

If your problem is in any of the aforementioned causes, then you should invest all the money into your current business. The only handiwork you need now is further carpentry training if you lack knowledge about some certain modern design.

I advise you use that 100k open business for your wife. Be it road side , food, or daily market sell. Keep 50k.
Then upgrade from normal woodwork carpentry (roof skeleton)to installations like longspan, metcopo, metro tile.
What you need now is to join Aluminum installers group , create contacts. Better Jobs dey.
Money dey roofing na. I'm talking from experience in Aluminum roofing production experience

With 150k is enough to start a POS business and make a daily commission of 10k.
All you need is look for a busy area, rent space for a low cost kiosk and you can research on how you can be a mobile money agent.

You have only two options. Things you are well experienced in

a)Carpentery/Building materials

b)Okada parts

Do not gamble into things you don't know.

Work smart people.

1) Since carpentry sales are occasional make it a side hustle, you already got the skill but sales are seasonal, not regular

2) You have a wife and 2 kids to feed and cater for hence spending another 1-3 years to learn another skill when you don't have sufficient savings to cater for them during that period is not a way to go.

3) Look around you, ask good people around you, open your eyes to see market opportunities, what services do people always need that is not readily available in your locality (haircut, viewing center, city transport/Okada/Taxi, mini agro-processing, etc); what commodity/product is on high/regular demand and not already well supplied (foodstuff/provisions, fruit stand, pure water/ice block, etc).

4) Get all the necessary information by doing your research, go to a location far from your locality, meet anybody doing that business to advise you, make a decision, start small and scale-up

All the best

if at all the money is up to #250k now, ai would have asked you to set up a male fashion store that your wife or you can fall under to.

I know what you are going through because to get work nowdays is like a luck, no much contract or that much.

we too are facing it, but clothes store and your okada business join with when God bring a contract to you will be good to go.

Hmmm

Do you want to hear the truth? You are your own enemy. And if care is not taking, you will starve to death, and suffer your children. Obviously, you have a good "handiwork". Listen, I tested a carpenter with a job recently. My normal self always buy materials so I do not hear stories, but I wanted to go into a partnership with this guy on something else. So, I deliberately gave him money for materials to test his integrity. He over billed me, and I overlooked it. He felt I did not know the cost of materials. And I counted the whole amount neatly for him. He got the money, and start giving me excuses for not doing my job after spending my money, and he didnt buy the materials. I just kept smiling inside. He dribbled me for good 4 weeks. And when he came with materials, he came with inferior. He wrote 2" by 2" wood in his estimates and came with 2" by 1". He wrote a strong and expensive wood which I know and can identify, but came with an inferior. I said nothing and I was watching him. Of course I was still discussing the business with him. Then, he started giving me other excuses. And then, I ran out of patience, and I asked him if I should call someone else, he said I was free to do it. Later, i told myself that I would not be the one to chase him, but he would chase himself. Of course, I endured, and one day he shouted at me on the phone and told me to go and call another person. That was when I rang my contact and I arrested him. I calculated all the amount he has cheated me, and I got all back neatly. Then, I told him the huge opportunity which he lost. His father (very old man) was there at the police station when I told him, and the old man cried bitterly. That was how I left him alone.

Oga, the opportunities are there for you. You are riding okada cos you want easy money. And riding okada is not easy too, so you will still complain. You have a good source of income. Treat your customers well, and things will be fine. But almost all artisans are their own wahala. The way you make your bed is how you will sleep on it.

If you like, listen....if you like....keep jumping from one profession or job to another. You know the number of people you have disappointed and cheated to the extent people do not patronize you or refer anyone to you again. I know because this is how all of you always end up.

Change your ways and see how things will change; else, your children will curse you when they are big, and say it to your face how useless you are.

Goodluck!
My guy u an idiot for real...just check the meaning of idiot
