When iPhone wants to Block that loophole on their operating system they had to pick a fight with apple and even went as far as removing their (apple) batch on their Facebook page.

They plan on monitoring via WhatsApp chat also and passing such information to Facebook to process but the backlash they received made them postponed the deadline.

Facebook claims they only monitor commercial chats like terms that has to do with buying and same time claims chats to be Encrypted.

I have a Facebook account but I did not install the app on my phone. I access Facebook on my phone through browsers.

That way, the monitoring reduces.

What's up with you all and personalized ads. He did not search his phone for the items. They are listening to him dammit. An app has permission to listen to you even when you're not on call or the app is using your camera to capture live feeds of marketable things around you and display as ads

Abeg make I hear word anybody that want to buy any appliances must first check the price and the spec on Google don't lie there was a time you search for it, or read about it on the internet. They normally get all these information from websites that has Facebook pixel installed they use these information to predict your behavior and then target you with the right add that will be of interest to you.

It is called targeting and retargeting advertisement. I am sure you looked up those items on certain websites in Nigeria (say Jiji, Jumia or Konga) before going ahead to buy. What Facebook does is that it drops a tiny file called "cookie" on your device which follows it around and feeds Facebook back about products that interest you. Facebook, in turn, show you those products because those vendors you left their website paid Facebook to advertise their products to people who must have visited their website with certain products in mind. The goal is to lead you back to their website and make a purchase. It is a sophisticated form of personalised advertisement.

So, yes, Facebook is monitoring us all.

Yes, It is very normal. There are micro codes we digital marketers inject into web pages that helps us determine how to market to you. Both Facebook and Google has them. A big ecommerce firm like jumia will definitely have them installed by their expert digital marketers for marketing and remarketing purposes.

Targeted ads work with your phone's location tracking too. You can go to your phone's permission settings and disable these app permissions.
