Toyota Camry 2007 drags when on speed

A Camry 2007 was brought in with a complain of dragging when in top speed. After driving a bit with the car it was as if the engine was working under alot of pressure, unable to breathe fine.

The car owner ran a scan and came up with some codes; P0128 and P0420. The P0128 was for coolant thermostat Malfunction.

P0420 was for Catalyst Converter below threshold. On further diagnosis we discovered the catalyst Converter was never in the car just an empty exhaust. Removing the whole exhaust reveals more damage done by probably a mechanic previously. The other hollow after the Post-CAT was filled wires (picture below).

After fixing the catalyst and removing the wires also servicing the transmission. The vehicle was back to full performance.

Wait oh! I don't get it. Do you mean these iron wires were removed from the exhaust pipe? Like what was it doing there in the first place?

But from my research, irrespective of the fact that the European cars are better base on the following:

1. Better Fuel Efficiency

2. More Technologically Advanced

3. High Resale Value

4. Solid Engineering

5. Aesthetic Appeal

Fuel efficiency:

Fuel efficiency in the context of how much fuel per mile. They consume more

Fuel efficiency in terms of torque per fuel. Maybe.


High Resale Value: Resale value is dependent on demand. There is less demands for European vehicles compared to their Asian counterpart.


So European vehicles do not have high resale values.


On reliability scores, Asian vehicles have proven more reliable than any other brand.

The biggest market for vehicle is America. More asian cars are sold, than even American brands.


If you need a vehicle you want to wake up to, and start and wont go to limp mode on you, go Asian.


Now for spec

In reality, American Spec vehicles.

A Toyota American Spec
Mercedes, American Spec
Volkswagen American Spec

Will have more luxury, taste, safety features, finish and practicality than any specification. It is a cultural thing. They want it all, big, and tasteful.



Using the Corolla

The American Spec Corolla will be more luxurious, well built, have more safety features than any other spec.

There is Corolla European Spec
South African Spec
Asian and Chinese spec.

Compare them in reality, the American spec is better, costlier, easy to repair and more durable.

Infact, are you aware, if you have a bad ECU on an american spec corrola, you dont need any special tool for programming.

If you have all key lost situation, you can do a reset from almost low end programming tools.

The Meter makes more sense in spelling, than metre and color to colour the same way the Americans have been more reasonable and practical in their specifications

Is it the same American spec Canada uses as well? Or which region in America does this American spec meant for since we have the North and South America.

And how true is the myth with Canada AC cars, many local Nigeria men believe the AC system in cars from Canada doesn't cool as those from the USA. How true is this.

Absence of catalytic converter doesn't affect fuel economy.

Hear some arguments from some people also that catalyst only helps in controlling car exhausts I.e. removing toxic substances from car exhausts and converting them to harmless/less toxic substances, and not really significantly improves fuel consumption
