Nearly every government development infrastructure and amenities you find in Asaba exists in Warri and Sapele.
Rochas Okorocha finished urban renewal, expansion and development of Owerri, abandoned Orlu Municipal LGA to rot; stepped down from office and was declared persona non grata in Owerri by natives of Owerri led by Hon Uche Onyeagocha.

IMO STATE PUBLIC ENLIGHTENMENT

Agro-Industrialization: Imo State Part of FGN/AfDB Funded SAPZ Project

Imo State has been identified as a nodal state for the FGN/AFDB/IFAD funded Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones Project (SAPZ) for the South-East Region.

Speaking at the recently concluded Appraisal Mission of the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Federal Government Team to Imo State, the State Governor, Dist. Sen Hope Uzodimma pointed out that this recognition aligns with the strategy of his government towards stimulating intensive production and processing of agricultural commodities across key value chains. “We are systematically steering our agricultural competencies towards closing demand-supply gaps for agro-produce, not just for Imo state, but for the entire eastern region and ultimately, Nigeria”.

"So if you look at it, facilitating industrialization in the state through agricultural activities is not only strategic for the Presidency but also sits in the matrix of the economic development roadmap and investment promotion plan for Imo State", the Governor posited further.

On the SAPZ Program, Uzodimma noted that the commitment of the state to the project is anchored on the fact that it will create an enabling business environment for private sector investments to access local and regional markets. “The fallout from this will result in employment opportunities for the people of Imo State, particularly women and youths and economic growth for the region and the country”.

The appraisal team led by Richard-Mark Mbaram Esq. Technical Adviser to the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, applauded the state government for the strategic Agro-industrialization supportive investments across the state, beginning with the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport “the only Cargo Airport in the South-East and South-South region, and best in-class in the country, remarkably dwarfing the Lagos airport facility”.

As noted by the State’s Commissioner for Commerce & Industry, Mr. Simeon Egbegbulem, “the cargo airport is a key trade infrastructure primed to service the movement of agro-commodities between Imo and other States”. It is fully equipped with a terminal building, eight 50/20m warehouses, 26 offices and a 500KVA power sub-station - in addition to two 500 KVA stand-by generators".

The SAPZ, a major flagship agro-industrialization Program of the Buhari administration, will assist the Imo State government in the prioritized value chains of Oil Palm, Cassava, Poultry, Maize and Soybeans, which will be off-taken by Agro-Industrial giants like Victoria Integrated Farms and others that already exist.

Victoria Farms Ltd; an integrated private-sector led endeavor is located in Ngor-Okpala and strategically placed along the borders of Imo and Abia State, making it a turn-key facility which, at full operation, will help plug the protein deficiencies in the South-East and South-South regions.

According to Mr CNC Nwachukwu, Victoria Farms sits on 80 hectares of land and will produce 600,000 eggs per day, working with partners from Germany, Netherlands and Italy, such as Big Dutchman and Buschoff. He also indicated that Maize and Soybeans are the major raw material requirements for the farm’s feed mill. "In six months, we will cater for a demand of up to 5,500 hectares of Maize cropping, that’s what our silos will need”. He went on to add that with the necessary infrastructural support from the AfDB and the Federal Government, the company’s next line of business would be meat processing.

JP Agro Limited, another private sector player in the state participating in the SAPZ recently secured 2500 hectares of land solely for the cultivation of Maize and Soybeans and is currently cultivating rice on a 500 hectare farm in Umudim. According to the CEO, Dr. Pauline Igwe, key support around land preparation will go a long way to help kickstart the new project intent.

The main hub of the Imo SAPZ Project is however planned for Okigwe and will cater for an Integrated Livestock Processing Complex. For this, the experts from the Bank, working with the State’s Consultant, have undertaken the comprehensive design and structuring of the facility, prior to commencement of construction.

I’ve always said when or if Imo gov’t can fix the major and inner streets of Owerri to world-class standards, it would easily become the most beautiful state capital in Nigeria! Same applies to Aba, Onitsha, Enugu and Abakaliki....these cities just need to fix all their roads to world-class standards (and add some greenery too) and no other city in Nigeria can come close!

I’ve always said when or if Imo gov’t can fix the major and inner streets of Owerri to world-class standards, it would easily become the most beautiful state capital in Nigeria! Same applies to Aba, Onitsha, Enugu and Abakaliki....these cities just need to fix all their roads to world-class standards (and add some greenery too) and no other city in Nigeria can come close!

GOVERNOR UZODIMMA IS POISED TO MAKE OWERRI A BEFFITTING CAPITAL CITY

▪250 jobs already created in this sector alone with more to come as program expands*

The Imo State Governor, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma is poised to make the capital city of Owerri to look as clean, well kept and beautiful as obtainable in many parts of the world.

For immediate and effective transformation of the environment, and in other to supplement what the existing structures are doing, a special government intervention program was launched to transform the major streets and the major entrances of Owerri. At least, five (5) kilometres into the capital city will soon witness noticeable changes in their environmental status soonest.

The planting of trees, and creation of green areas has been re-introduced. The airport landscaping is to be re-done properly.

The Uzodimma administration is now re-establishing tree planting which was stopped long ago. Most of the trees because of the expansion of the roads in the past were removed. Trees will be replanted on major avenue's where there is space and also in the mediam's.

Only natural trees like palm trees will be planted to freshen the atmosphere, take off the carbon dioxide effluence during photosynthesis and convert them into oxygen.

In the major streets of Owerri, where we have a lot more concrete and ashphalt and with no plants at all, islands will be created where vegetations will be established to soften the atmosphere and makes it look nice.

Cleaning and desilting are continuous processes, but the removal of the clogged areas are ongoing so that when there is rain, water can flow.

Unfortunately, the general behaviour of the people is that they drop plastics and litter everywhere and most of it end up in the gutters. Because they are not bio-degradable they remain there clogging the gutters.

During the expansion of some roads in the past, the gutters were not properly done. Some of the gutters flow to dead ends without directing waters towards a catchment area. Some are not smooth while some are high. So water gets to these places and reverses. The state Ministry of Works is tackling all this now.

The intention now is to introduce big fishing nets to catch the plastics and allow the water to flow. Already, the Control Post and Assumota area has been declogged, which is one of the most difficult areas to control.

With the realization that there are no receptacles for people to drop plastics, the government is working to provide receptacles for people to use, afterwhich workers will remove the plastic waste every morning. Within the next two weeks some of the receptacles which are now under production will start appearing at the major bus stops, and the major roundabouts. They are concrete and it is so heavy that nobody is going to remove them, although it is easy to clean.

Green verges are been created already, like at Onitsha road, where within the next 3 days grassing activities will start. Once you grass and the grass is established, it prevents the soil from being washed into the gutter.

Tree planting is about to start in the mediam of some roads in Owerri. Some of the mediams are only one metre in width, and here the type of the tree will mostly be palm trees as the roots will not cause problems.

Finally through the Uzodimma environmental transformation program, 250 jobs has been created which will increase as the program expands.

Ajee, that road is too narrow in the first place sef, when no be Akwanga area of Abuja-Nasarawa road.

Thank God it's been expanded. If they make it 6-lanes, e no bad, then construct pedestrian bridges at major junctions along the road, PLUS COVERED DRAINAGES

If this is the road that leads to the Zoo, then kudos to Hope. It'll definitely open up that part of Imo state. Let the zoo operators renovate the entrance to the zoo, plant trees/flowers, put a signboard, e.t.c

People drop plastics and wastes in gutters thereby blocking the drainage system?

Isn't it high time Imo IMPOSES compulsory cleanup every week, say Thursdays? No shops in Owerri will open from morning till 9/10 which will be when the cleanup will end.

That way, such cases of drainage blockage will be stemmed in the bud before it leads to flooding.

However, the question becomes, DOES IMO HAVE A FUNCTIONAL WASTE DISPOSAL AGENCY, like LAWMA and ESWAMA?

The presence of this agency will lead to establishment of recycling companies in the state. Even if we don't establish, we can supply the companies in Anambra at a fee.

Paper wastes are being recycled into Tissue papers, plastics are melted and used to produce other plastics or even blocks and condemn irons/scraps are sold to metal companies at a huge price... Agricultural or vegetable wastes can be used to produce fertilizers for farmers.

It looks impossible, but we can start from somewhere

Now, I'm sure nobody will tell the police and military men to remove their checkpoints if they don't want to become soft targets.

What are we doing with multiple checkpoints from Onitsha to Owerri... Same thing from Owerri to Umuahia and from Owerri to Portharcourt... All they do is extort money from drivers...

Let them leave and go back to their stations. if the stations are full and can't accomodate them, transfer them to the North where they are needed. How can you militarize the Southeast even when we didn't have any security issue. I'm sure they've learnt their lessons now

As for the ongoing chaos, I think Rochas, Uzodimma and other top politicians should call their boys to order. If it's majorly about IPOB or ESN, I believe the chaos should start with Abia state since IPOB's headquarters and operational base is there, but surprisingly, Abia state is as calm as a lake, while the chaos is ongoing in Imo. That tells you there is another factor at play here which we ain't aware of.

Hope has been fighting many war fronts at the same time which is bad for someone in his pedigree and position,
He is fighting rochas, ipob, esn, and many more, which I think is a distraction for his office.
And owing the way he acclaimed the mantle of leadership, I expected him to lay low and speak with his achievements. But it seems he doesn't hear or listen to advices unless maybe from his northern oligarchy masters.
